My ancestor was William Richard Lapworth and Henry was a son from his second marriage to a miss m smith a spinster from Birmingham.
I do have a bit more info but my records are not with me at the moment.

Hello, Malcolm ~
If memory serves, Laura Edginton married in Birmingham, Warwickshire, to a man with the last name of Burgess. I do not have any further information about Laura's spouse other than that both remained in England after Laura's entire family of origin moved to the US early in 1900.
Laura Edginton Burgess had at least one child. That daughter was named Maude.
Maude Burgess married Arthur Gollicker, and in the 1970s they lived in Sutton Coldfield.
I believe they had a son named David(?), although I'm not certain of the son's name. The son worked for Doulton China. He should still be alive.

I don't know if Ann is still monitoring this thread, but I started it.... How great to hear from you! I didn't hear further on that photograph, and as a result, am not sure that the offer was valid. That's why I asked the question that I did; it all seemed a bit too simple from the first post, and I'm very cautious about sending money in a situation like that.

However, Ann is my Lapworth descendant cousin (well, half-cousin) in England, and she will be very excited to hear that you are a descendant of William Leo. She has, and has given me a copy of, a letter that he sent from the States.

William Leo was my granduncle, so we are on the same level of generation from him, and you too are a half-cousin of mine! Ann is descended from William Leo's sister Marie Christine. Please email me at lesleyo(at)telusplanet(dot)net and we can get down to the real stuff!

I am the granddaughter of William Leo Lapworth and Sophie Lutz. My father was the youngest of five children born to them. He would also be interested in a copy of the photograph if you get a reply. William Leo died in 1939 (?)in Carbondale, Pennsylvania and his wife in 1972 (?) in Memphis, Tennessee.

Hi. The photo was taken in Birmingham, Eng., with an unidentified woman and both are very fancily dressed. 'Wm. Leo. Lapworth when a boy' is written on the back. I bought it in Jackson, TN, about 80 miles from Memphis.

I am wondering if anyone out there has any info about this lady. Her parents were James Lapworth and Margaret Reeves. I haven't been able to find any other info on her. She would be my grandfather's half sister. If she is still alive, she would be 87 years old. Did she have children?? Thanks for any info you can provide.

I am not a Lapworth, but I may have cousins out there who are. I believe my great grandmother married James Lapworth in 1914. This is a brand new possible line for me, so I am not sure. Will order the marriage certificate and find out. My grandmother was Margaret Reeves b. 1886. I have no clue at this point about James Lapworth, but intend to do some more research.

William Leo Lapworth b c. 1880 in Aston, Warwickshire, England, son of Thomas William Lapworth and Fanny Smith, immigrated to USA circa 1805 and married a woman by the name of Sophia (Sofia?) whose mother was Polish.

They had three known children: William Leo Jr., Maria C., and Duval.

I am most interested in contacting any descendants of this family! Please get in touch.

My wife's name is Valerie Lapworth but the family hsitory is limited as her grandfather, Reginald William Lapworth, born in Canterbury on 8th July 1893. Unfortunately he was brought up in an orphanage or poor house and did not ever wish to discuss his family. His birth certificate shows his father to be Henry Lapworth and mother Emma Lapworth (nee Horsley). We cannot find any record of their marriage so it is possible they were not and he was illegitemate.

Can anyone shed any light on this for us?

Since posting the above, I have found evidence int he 1871 English census that my great grandmother Eliza was, in fact, living with Thos. Wm. at that time, along with her grandmother (mother-in-law of Thomas's first wife), Sophia Doyle.

Not only that, Thomas is manager of a cut-nail factory, which pretty much confirms the fact my family's oral history that my grandmother's biological father was 'owner' of a nail factory. To them, there would be little difference between manager and owner.

Thomas William Lapworth m. Fanny Smith 1875

I am looking for descendants of the Thomas William Lapworth who married Fanny Smith in West Bromwich, England, in 1875. They had three children: Lillie Dollie, Marie C, and William Leo. Prior to marrying Fanny, William was married to Mary Ann Bradburn Doyle. She and their only child, son William, died in childbirth.

Between then and his marriage to Fanny, I believe that Thomas William took solace with my great grandmother, Eliza Sophia Bradburn. She was the half-niece of his first wife, Mary Ann. The product of their union was Florence (Lapworth) Bradburn, my maternal grandmother, who was raised as her own mother's younger sister.

I am trying to find confirmation of this relationship, for no other reason than to satisfy the question mark remaining on my tree. I have all of the pieces but this last one, so if any of you have a family story about a Lapworth child born to Thomas William out of wedlock in 1875, please get in touch!

Am trying to find any reference to Henry Hawkes Richard Lapworth, christened in All Saints Church, Birmingham, Warwick, England on 13 Jun 1856.

His parents were William Richard Lapworth and Margaret (her maiden name unknown) and he had at least one brother and two sisters: William H S b 1853; Margaret V b 1855; Isabella M b 1863.

I am a Lapworth from Ontario, but i am have only recently started to search backwards on the name. There is a Thomas Henry from i was told Coventry, but don't know yet about Joseph.
The Lapworths in Ontario are....me Shaune, my dad Errol 1940, his dad Alexander George 1920? and his dad came from Coventry.

Hi Joanne- I am doing a family tree on my Grandpa Fred Lapworth. My name is Ardith Lapworth Neumeyer . My dad's name was George, My grandpa's was Fred, His dad was George Lapworth. We are from Michigan. George was born in Flushing, Mich.; Fred was born in Flushing, Mich.; Fred was adopted by George Lapworth . He was born in 1875. Does any of this help you? It was great to see your LAPWORTH name as my great-grandmother Kate Lapworth was Charlottes baby sister. She was born in 1850 in Bermingham, married Charles Bertam Allen. She died in South Africa. I have moved and all my papers are in boxes but have lots of info about this family as well as the Carter lamily line. Any info you have would be great to recieve.

Hi, I am the great-grandaughter of a Charles Lapworth who lived in Leamington Spa. He was the youngest of 13 children. I don't know much about his relations, but if you think there is any connection i would be happy to try and find out more.

For ages I have been trying to find something on the first marriage of my Gt.Gfthr. William Griffin. All I had was the first name but I just found a marriage record from LDS which shows a Harriet Lapworth marriage to a Wm.Griffin on 28 July 1850 at St George Church, Birmingham, Warks. He was a baker with shops in Birmingham. In 1874 he remarried to a Sarah Hardiman, my Gt, Grmthr.
Does this tie in with anything you have, please? I am keen to discover names of their parents etc

Thanks yours. Can`t add much more, but have found an IGI record of Harriet Hawker Lapworth Christening at St.Philips, Birmingham,UK. Her parents are shown as Thomas Hawker Lapworth and wife Mary.
My Burgesses came from the Lakenheath/ Mildenhall area of Suffolk. and are on my mothers side of the family. Betsy Burgess was the wife of Robert Crick and is the mother of my Gfthr. Harry Crick.

I am just dipping my toe in the Lapworth history but your post sounds interesting. We are from Ontario, there is a Coventry connection and Thomas Henry sounds like a name i have heard. Maybe my great grandfather's relative ??
