What an interesting job, please, stay safe. I am certian we are cousins of some degree. My gg grandfathers were James LaRoche b1823-d1899 and John H Sams b1839-d1924. Their children Martha"Mattie"Sams married Benjamin LaRoche in 1883 and so my line of the family began My G father was (Henry) Reynolds LaRoche 1895-1936 who married one of the Stewart sisters Eugenia. My father was Reynolds Stewart LaRoche 1916-1977. I too spent many a summer on the island from the late 50's to early 60's. I remember most the mosquitoes and the great sea food. I have a 13 page document written by Mattie LaRoche telling about life on the island in the late 1800's. St Luke's Church obtained a copy for me . It is in bad need of retyping. I'm am guessing you are of the LaRoche-Hallonquist line. Please e-mail me at llforget@embarqmail.com Best regards Laura LaRoche Forget

Yes, I'm still out here (currently serving with the Multinational Force & Observers in the Sinai, Egypt). I'm trying to collect as much information about the La Roches as possible. I remember spending the summers on MI with my great grandmother (Mattie) and playing at the old church, which was all that existed back then. I used to be able to enter the church using a key that hung underneath the church on the left hand side of the building. The last time I checked (around 1997 I think)the key was still hanging there. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rick

Dear Sandra,
I only recently discovered this message and am replying even though it is 12 years old. My name is Richard William La Roche Jr. And my grandfather was Herbert Leslie La Roche. I'm not sure he is the same one you are seeking. He was the mayor of Cocoa Beach for many years and died around 1962. I was born in Rocklege and spent the first year of my life on Merritt Island (1947). His mother was Martha (Mattie) Sams. He had one son (my father) named Richard William La Roche Sr. I have more information if he is the person you are looking for. Rwlaroche@hotmail.com

Hello Ms. Richards,

I saw your information on this site that peaked my interest and realized that we might have something in common. My mother is from the Laroche family. When I was young, she often expressed the success of the Laroche family. They were judges, attorneys and were related to presidents in Haiti. Also, she mentioned they were called mulattos. However, I would have to get more information from her regarding the history, since I was not raised in Haiti and did not have an interest or understand the history as a child.

Regards,

Lee Cherry

I need his immigration information, and Naturalization information. And hopefully his parents information.

I have all his info here in the US in the UP of MI except for his actual imm information. He imm in 1873 b. in Sweden 1855, m. 1882 in Menominee county MI.

He died in Rhinelander WI in JN 1942 and is buried there Jly 1942. I have all that.

I have not gotten an imm search, since I don't know exactly where in Sweden he was born and I don't know what his parents names were. I do know he was suppose to be 18 years old when he came here. My second cousin says he came through NY because she mentioned the Statue of Liberty. I know that he didn't tell much of his life to his children, because they didn't tell their children about the info.

The information I did get was from the census from 1900-1930, on he and his children and wife. The cemetery had forms, but it was given to them by the daughter and she didn't know much of his life.

I called different churches in the area and they didn't have much in older records under that name. And in upper Michigan there were tons of Charles Johnson's. I don't know if he changed his name to Charles C. Johnson when he got to the USA or just changed some of how it is spelled. If he was on social security, he would have had to be Naturalized, when I don't know? The obituary spelled his name Johnson in the heading, but in the article it's spelled Johnston. It could be an error possibly. On land docs it shows CC Johnson according to the land description.I have not gotten an actual death certificate from the state of Wisconsin yet. I am still looking for Matilda (Johnson) Bengston's family to see if they have any more information since she was the oldest girl and might have either kept the family bible or remembers more? But I have not located them yet.

MY SISTER SEEMS TO THINK THAT OUR GGF IMMIGRATED TO MICHIGAN FROM CANADA. CENSUS SHOWS HE IMMIGRATED FROM SWEDEN 1973 HIS NAME CHARLES C. JOHNSON B. 1855. AS CHARLES FAMILY GREW, THE ABOVE NAMES ARE WHOM HIS DAUGHTERS MARRIED. I DO KNOW THE LAROCHE FAMILY WAS FROM CANADA, MARRIED DAUGHTER ANNA/ANNIE. I BELIEVE THE BENGSTON FAMILY CAME FROM CANADA ALSO. HIS NAME WAS GUST/GUSTAF, WIFE MATILDA/TILLIE.

You were related to my mother, because when she was alive she mentioned your last name as a relative to her from the UP of MI and Wisconsin. Do you have any more information on the Johnson side? That is where I am today. I got her mothers side done, and now I am working on her father's side. I have the Anderson done and having problems with getting Charles from 1873 to 1889.

I remember my mother mentioning the last name Mesick, how does that make us related since my grandfather was Carl Johnson son of Charles and Carrie? Do you have information on Charles Johnson, I have lots on Carrie, but have some info wrong to not get much history on Charles? Send me a message to my site and I will give you my email address.

Frank LaRoche b Canada Fr

Hello

My name is Michael LaRoche. I've recently started researching my family tree, and so far I have traced my family back to a Frank LaRoche (born about 1855 in Canada Fr) who married an Amelia (not sure of the spelling, born about 1851 in Canada Fr). They had four children that I can find: Alphonse, Joseph, Henry and Malvina.

My great grandfather was Henry (born about 1883 in CT, USA). Frank must have immigrated to the USA sometime between 1855 and 1883. Henry moved to Rhode Island and had 6 children: Floride, Alvin, Jeanette, Henry E, Felix and Robert.

My grandfather was Henry E LaRoche (born 1911 and died 1966 in Rhode Island).

Can anyone provide any detail on Frank LaRoche and/or Amelia and help me continue to trace them back into Canada?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Thank you, any help is appreciated. I've been wondering if it's possible that the marriage just wasn't indexed because it was illegible. So many of the acts in the registers are almost impossible to make out. It's always a relief to find the ones with really clear handwriting!

Jennifer
