1902-Massimo Lauri 37- from PC - married - laborer - went to Sorrentino relatives living at 385 Metropolitan Ave.,Bklyn.
This is from immigration records, this is the same address I have for my Lauri family in Brooklyn. WOW! Remember these were tenaments, so there were about 6 families living there. Sorrentino could have been a relative by marriage.

Can you send me more info on your line, there may be a tie somewhere. My cousin and I are related through different Lauri lines. I have Lauri's in my family who married other Lauri's. Lots of that stuff back then.

Verna

Yes, please let's do keep up. Have you had correspondence with Clifford Lauri in the UK - also a Sicily/Malta connection? You may wish to join Facebook. There are 3 Lauri genealogy groups on it. Not much of an exchange of information, but one never knows what will appear. My email is cathylauri@msn.com. I am attaching a genealogy letter I recently sent out looking for Lauri's. It tells what I know, perhaps it will ring a bell. Salvatore is one of my missing links. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Regards, Cathy

Hi Stephen,

My grandfather, Michael Lauri was born in a small town near Naples in the 1890's. His family immigrated to the New York City around 1904. He married Carmela Juliano and had 3 children, Aniel, Guiseppe (Joe)and Philomena. I am Joe's daughter and live in NY. Do you have a lot of relatives named Michael, Joseph or Neil? I do.

My Dad is over 6 feet tall had black hair and blue eyes. I'm thinking that the Vikings had a stop over in Naples. I also learned that Lauri is a surname in Finland.

In any event, we were lucky to be born "Lauri's"

Regards,
Patricia Lauri Hogan

Lauri surname genealogy from recent trip to Sicily

My husband and I just returned from Sicily - needless to say, it was an experience of a lifetime.

After 7 years of research, with the assistance of Emilio Terrazzino (our wonderful guide, researcher, translator and new friend born in Ohio and now living in Agrigento), I located a branch of my Lauri family in Palermo. I am still bouncing off the walls!!!! We got together 3 times during our trip. Prior to leaving, I also, after years of research by chance located other Lauri's I knew of in Connecticut but had not been able to find. They are also bouncing off the walls!!

Here is the genealogical information I gathered to share:

1. Lauri surname - I await certificates of birth via Emilio for my grandfather and his brothers from Partanna. After a few words from Emilio with some gentlemen at the cemetery in Partanna, we were permitted to visit. We searched the cemetery, finding no Lauri's. I saw Vivianos buried there and since my Aunt married an Ippolito, took a picture of an Ippolito grave stone with pictures of 3 generations. I was not aware of this but when one is buried, the plot is leased for 100 years. After 100 years, if there is on one to pay the rent for the next 100 years, the remains and marker are turned over to the church for mass burial.

There were no Lauri's in the municipal records in Palermo, Alcamo or Terrasini for a span of time beginning in 1875 through 1925.

When meeting with the family, we talked about Lauri's around the world. They confirmed we are related to the Lauri's in Palma Campagnia, Naples, but do not know how. Another lead for me to track down!

My family comes from Sicily and as the story goes, migrated from southern France. I have made contact with another Lauri with family from mainland Italy. She has has also heard the French connection. Does anyone have an idea how the Lauri's in the north and south are connected. I have a hypothesis. Hundreds of years ago, we were all Gauls and various members of the family moved south or north. Gaul may be the connection, today's France was part of Gaul. Any input will be appreciated, thanks

If you knew the history of Finland, they were classified
as born in Russia for a certain time when Russia
won the war. Also in the World war one draft records
the Finns were classified as "Mongolian". It was not true but reflects on how the Finnish people were treated in America.
alicia

well one of the things to note on our family crest is that at one point we were tailors and had some sort of contact with royalty. it's believed that we might have been tailors to the Czar of Russia.

Do you think that our families could be related? I know that we have family in Italy some where, We have pictures of my moms aunt in Italy with some relatives but we don't know who they are and her memory is not that great and she don't remember who they are.

Ehi John,
I'm Claudio Lauri. Where did your grandfather come from? I ask you that because Cassese and Nunziata are surnames that I know very well. They are from that italian Region called Campania. My gandmother is a Nunziata. and in the town where my parents still live there are some Cassese Families.
They are all in Palma Campania (Naples, Italy). But the main branch of the family - at least in Italy - is in Spoleto. Did you heard the story of Fiordespina Lauri ('500)?

John
I don't know if this is the same family but my great grandma's name was angelina(julia) Lauri and she married biagio cassesse. I'm not sure if the spelling of the last name is right that's why I'm not sure if it's the same family or not. I have a marrage certificate that says Laura and a picture of a grave stone. Her brother Nicola is buried next to her but there is flowers covering the last letter so I cannot tell if it Lauri or Laura. I think we have another document some where with the Lauri that's why I'm so confused. We have little information as my great grandfather died young and the kids were all young and the only one left was about a year old when he died. Do you know anything? Can you shed some light on this for me? Also the name nunziata come up, we think that they may have been cousins because the marrage certificate lists both of my great grand parents parents as having the name nunziata. thanks Leah
Well I may be a little younge to be doing this I think but I know quite a bit about my family from my grandfather Arthur Lauri. I know that my origins reach as far back as the russian revolution. I am part russian, italian, german, albanian, and rumors that I might even be a part Mongolian. I know about how I got these multitude of parts as well as what my family did back then. I even found my families crest and it's so old that historians can't even id some parts of it. If you would like to know more please ask away.
