Lawrence Canada to Michigan

I am researching the Lawrence family of Rose Lawrence b. in Canada, some documents say Michigan and married James H. Dawley. I have census which has her as head of household with William Lawrence as father and Lester Lawrence as brother and Leo Lawrence as nephew. Her children were clarice, Lawrence and Richard. Siblings were: Eliza, Lester and Helen. I believe William H. Lawrence's father was John Lawrence. Area in Canada was Ontario and in Michigan Greenville, Montcalm County. Clarice married James Daniel Fitzpatrick of Musegkon, Michigan.

Hi the dates i have for Joseph Lawrence aren't set in stone as i cannot find a birth certificate for him i'm just going off his wedding certificate to Edith Besley. On the certificate it's down as his father being 'John Lawrence' Motor engineer. Unfortunalty my mother never really asked any questions regarding her family history and never met her grandparents. She does seem to remember that Joseph Lawrence also may have had a brother whose name was also John Lawrence but she cannot be definate on this. Any help would be very much gratefully appreciated as i cannot find any information on the 1901 census or 1911 under the name of Lawrence but maybe it is of the surname you mention and has been changed as many did. Again thankyou for all your help.
best regards
lisa

Hello Lisa

I was just about to send you a good luck message when inspiration struck. My Great Grandfather John Lawrence was born John Laurenson in Bressay, Shetland Islands and changed his name to Lawrence when he came to Liverpool. I further remembered that he had a nephew John Lawrenson (1858)who also came to Liverpool and although I have him in my records and in the Census returns as Lawrenson it is a possibility that he changed his name after the 1901 Census. He at one time lived in Everton and also in Toxteth. He was married and had 3 children that I know of and that were shown in the 1901 Census.

A question, is that date of birth for Joseph Lawrence firm?

I am in contact with a distant cousin, in San Francisco, who before she moved there had regular contact with the 'Elders' of the Lawrence clan. She is the grand daughter of the Priscilla Mary I mentioned earlier. If you wish I can contact her and ask her opinion.

Kevin
Hello

My name is Kevin Doran, Hannah's father. She has stepped back for the moment from Ancestor hunting as she prepares for marriage.

You asked about the Lawrence family. The John Lawrence that we have (1878 - 1958), was as far as we know never married. He was the second of four children; James Thomas(1876 - 1908), Priscilla Mary(1879 - 1965) and Thomas Leicester(1881 - 1947), my grandfather. The only one of the family we have in Walton was Priscilla Mary married to a Basil Baker. The parents of the children lived in Gwladys Street, Everton which is quite close. The parents were John Lawrence(1835 - 1918) and Anne Lennox(1841 - 1919).

I would be interested to know if you think we might be related. The family were Quakers also.

Regards

Kevin
Wardner was born Febuary 9, 1883; he married Mary Ellen Davidson. Myron was born December 30, 1880. He married twice, first to Uraine Lucia Lescale; married September 1915 but she died in June 1916. He then married Lucie Marie Sondack in July 1947. Myron died October 28, 1956. After Myron died, Lucie sold the property August 1958and was never heard from again. The property was 4716 Canal Street in Orleans Parish, Louisiana. Can anyone please help me?

I am researching a family member nemed Sarah Jane Lawence, born 09 Sept. 1791. (someone also has 12 Sept 1791). I am not sure just where she was born, but I do know that she and her family moved to Ohio from Maryland in the late 1800s. Her family and another family moved to Pickaway County, OH. The other family was the Paine family and the Orser family also moved to there. I believe Sarah was born in Massachusetts, but am not sure.

Sarah married a John Paine in Ohio. Thanks.

Was Isaac Lawrence b.1737 in Canaan CT a Loyalist?

Historical sketches of some members of the Lawrence family
By Robert Means Lawrence, p.48, ISAAC LAWRENCE, Junior,

"The third son of Isaac, and grandson of Daniel, sen., was born in Plainfield, Conn., March 5, 1737. In his infancy his parents removed to Canaan, Conn., and there, March 18, 1760, he married Mary Brown. Just previous to the Revolutionary war, he went with his family to Hinesburg, Chittenden County, Vt.

On the commencement of hostilities, he left Vermont, and during the war probably lived again at Canaan, where his children, all but one, were born; but, the war being ended, he again took up his residence in Hinesburg.

In the Vermont Historical Gazetteer (October, 1867) we find the following : —
"The only settlers known to have resided in Hinesburg previous to the Revolution were Isaac Lawrence from Canaan, Conn., and Abner Chaffee. The family of Isaac Lawrence endured some of the severest hardships, so well known to the first inhabitants of Vermont Mrs. Lawrence has said that she lived ten months without seeing the face of any other woman; and that for a while one season the only food used by the family was dried pumpkins, with the little mouldy flour the children scraped from the inside of a barrel that had been wet."

In 1793 Isaac Lawrence removed to Shefford County, Province of Quebec, about twenty-five miles north of the Vermont border.”

===
Was Isaac Lawrence b.1737 in Caanan CT a Loyalist?
Who knows where baptismal records are located which prove the dates and PLACES of birth of the ten children of the Isaac Lawrence who was married 18 Mar.1760 in Canaan, Litchfield CT to Mary Brown, d/o Deacon Samuel Brown?
The children of Isaac Lawrence and Mary Brown are alleged to have been born in Caanan CT, Hinesboro VT and South Stukely Quebec. Obviously a child can not be born in more than one place. However his birth and his baptism can be RECORDED in more than one place. Who has seen these conflicting records? By whom were they recorded? The Laurence family appear to have been Anglican, but I am unsure whether Deacon Samuel Brown was Anglican.

If Isaac were a loyalist during the American Revolution one would expect that children born before armed rebellion began in April 1775 to be born in Caanan CT. The oldest children were Lydia b.1761, Elijah b.1763, Samuel b.1765, Isaac b.1767, and Mary b.1770. Isaac may have briefly stayed near relatives in Hinesboro VT, where at least one child-- perhaps Apame b.1772-- may have been born. By 1778 the birth of a child, Henry, was evidently recorded in South Stukely, Shefford, Quebec, followed by Erastus b.1780, Pamelia b.1782, and David b.1785. Either Isaac Lawrence or Mary Brown may have had relations living in Quebec. I am trying to interpret conflicting IGI allegations, but have not done primary research in Litchfield Co CT, Chittenden Co Vermont, or Shefford Co Quebec.
After the Revolution, at least three of the children returned to marry in in the US: Lydia is alleged to have been married about 1781 in Groton MA to David Roberts. Samuel was Married 09 OCT 1788 in Canaan CT to Frances WHEELER. Mary may have been married about 1792 in Groton MA to William LITTLEFAIR and about1793 in Hinesboro VT or Groton MA to Amos TAYLOR. Who has seen the primary records on which these allegations are based?
Is there a published account of this interesting family?
Peter Wilson in Minneapolis MN

=== Who can correct this family group?
Husband	Isaac Lawrence,
b: 5 Mar.1737	Canaan, Litchfield
m: 18 Mar.1760	Canaan, Litchfield CT
d:
Burial: Shefford Co.
MAUD LAWRENCE

Looking for any info on Maud Lawrence - my late aunt. She emigrated to Indianapolis on January 19, 1921 from Liverpool UK & returned about 1935/36.
A Mrs SINCLAIR of 4220, Boulevard Place, Indianapolis paid for Maud's passage. I believe Maud married whilst she was there to a SAUNDERS - first name not known. Would love to know whether she divorced or if her husband died.
Is the 1930 US census available yet & does the above address still exist?

Grateful for any help offered & my thanks in advance.
