Do you realize there are two cemetery's and two different markers we are talking about? One by Roscoe Douglas in the Douglas Cemetery and the one I put in Bird's Eye Cemetery on Cane Creek.
So which one are you talking about? This is what I think of the validity on the board! To those that believe, there is no explanation necessary. To those that are skeptical, there is no explanation possible. I will publish all of the info I have on my "Lawson" page soon as i can. Pictures and all.
best regards
Shelby

Shelby-

Where did you find the Chief Standing Deer quote that appears on the marker? Can you share info about that, as well as the Cane Treaty? As you can see from this board, the validity of the marker's information / facts are definitely being questioned. I am hoping to finally run across the link / proof to Chief Standing Deer, but to date, I haven't found it. Is there a different name by which he was known, as well?

Thanks so much,

Shelly

Shelley,
Yes I have a picture of the plaque I placed in the old Lawson Ce. in Cane Creek,Ky. Its not a grave marker , it is a marker. Marking the burial place of our ancestors burial area. The Whitley co. Historical Society has all the info about the area.It also has bunches of charts on "Lawson", I have a Family History Book for sale, still have a few left.
But if you would rather contact the Whitley Co. Historical Society, they put out a newsletter that has bunches of "Lawson charts that are from that area. They are also online.

Best regards,
shelby

I'd like to hear from anyone who has further info on these people. Thanks in advance, Charlie Black

I am interested in linking Lawsons in Canada with their ancestors birthplace. I am descended from Alexander Lawson, born about 1822 in Scotland, but haven't been able to determine from exactly where! There is a Lawson DNA project at Family Tree DNA that is inexpensive and easy to join, a simple cheek swab will do it. If you know any Lawson males please encourage them to join.
Regards all, Andrew Lawson.

One of the Richards Lawsons of Hawkins Co., TN was the son of a Thomas Lawson Sr. (and apparently had brothers named John Jackson, Meridith/Mariday and Peter) per land deeds (these came from David Jenkins' work as posted here previously).

DB 18 page 543 - 1843 - Thomas Lawson to Richard Lawson.

Yes I have done the Y-DNA test and I am part of Group 3 on my website at: -
http://lawsondna.org/Pages/DNA_Project_37%20markers.html
As you can see on the above chart, Groups 1-7 are all Haplogroup I1, but you are in Group 8, which Haplogroup I2a.

The William Lawson I was referring to is a son of David Lawson who was a son of Mary Lawson, and is sometimes referred to as Mary on the Dan. Her maiden name may have been Graham and she had 4 sons, Francis, David, John and William who lived in the southern part of Halifax County, VA on or near the Dan River. You can find information on them at: -
http://lawsondna.org/Media/virginiacounties/Halifax.html

I have been of the opinion that these Lawsons are a different line from the Falling River Lawsons who lived in the same area. If you and the member related to Abia Lawson can be documented your connection to William/David Lawson, then it would prove that there are two lines of Lawsons, one is I1 and the other I2a.

It is also very interesting that a third member of your Group 8, traces his line of Lawsons back to a James Lawson that lived and died in Halifax County. There are a number of James Lawsons listed in Mary Lawson line that could fit?

What we need is a Lawson that can trace and document his line back to one of Mary’s sons and I hope this will happen in the future. This may prove your connection.
My web site below has over 25,000 Lawson names in US census records and on checking this I do find a Richard b.c. 1801 married to Jane both from NC. I also have info from at least 1 other contact who seems to link to that family so I would suggest registering on my web site. Once you post details of your Lawson family you will gain total access to all my databases which are free to view.

www.yorksgen.co.uk/forums/portal.php
gdl@yorksgen.co.uk

Thank you.
Would appreciate it very much if you would see if there is a Richard Lawson born about 1801 in NC and married a woman named Jane born in NC. Their oldest children were born in TN so they must have moved to TN shortly after their marriage.
Geraldine R Lawson Ford

Carl,

Yes, I'm aware that some have suggested that the father of Nicholas P, Abia, and Isaiah Dedrick Lawson is William Lawson. Others believe that Henry B Lawson (KY) is their father. However, I've never seen any documented evidence to support either claim.

There may be a connection to both lines, especially since KY was originally part of VA just before the birth of these three brothers.

Myself and a direct descendent of Abia Lawson are a close match on our DNA tests. However, neither is a close match to any other Lawson lines which I would expect if we are descendents of William Lawson.

Have you done a Family Tree DNA test and joined the LAWSON group? If so, I'd love to see how our two kits compare.

Thanks for the information on William. If you would like to correspond further please email me at beagles9-at-att-dot-net.

Charles Lawson (GGGG Grandson of Isaiah Dedrick Lawson)

Don’t know of a connection with Wilhite. But someone did some work on Nicholas P. Lawson and indicated his father may have been a William Lawson and part of the Mary on the Dan Lawson in Halifax County, VA.

As you pointed out Isaiah Dedrick, Nicholas P. and Abia Lawson were in Texas and the same area at the same time, and may have been brothers. The Y-DNA of Abia and Isaiah Lawson tend to support this.

Found in Ancestry World Tree Projects: - Abia, Nicholas P., Isaiah were all in Texas in 1836 and were in the Republic of Texas army. They all received land for their services.

Nicholas P. Lawson is enumerated in the 1830 Wabash County, Illinois Census. In his household are 1 male under 5 years, 1 male 20-30 years, 1 male 70-80 years and 1 female 20-30 years. This male 70-80 could be William Lawson?

Information on William Lawson
State of Illinois
County of Wabash
Declaration
In order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7th, 1832
On this 3rd day of June AD 1833 personally appeared in open court before the County Commissioner’s Court for the County of Wabash now sitting, William Lawson a resident of the Town of Mount Carmel in the County of Wabash and State of Illinois, age seventy four years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.

The he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated under Captain James Irvin in Halifax County, Virginia, marched to Guilford battle ground from thence to old Jamestown where we had a battle with the British from thence we marched to Little York, where we were under the command of Col. Gill; 500 acres
These three entries remained the same through 1797 when both disappeared.

Since all William Lawsons disappeared after 1786 from the Personal Property Tax lists, I would assume that they may have had titled to the land but were not living in Halifax County.

Halifax County, VA Deed Book 14, page 250, 28 September 1787 - From Aaron Lawson, William Lawson, James Lawson, David Lawson and Joseph West and Ann, his wife, formerly Ann Lawson, the sons and daughter of David Lawson deceased, all of Halifax, for 1200 pounds, to Isaac Coles of Halifax, the 2 tracts described below except 200 acres already laid off and allotted to the afd David Lawson by an amicable division among the said 7 children (named below) of said David Lawson deceased.
There are some names here that appear in my Elizabeth Lawson/Boardvine Braswell family: Martin, Granville, Louisa, Anderson.

Could you post the information for the Thomas Lawsons living in Hawkins County, TN, in 1800? The Thomas Lawson in Surry County, NC, does not appear in any census in Surry before 1800. Is it possible he was in Hawkins County, TN, and then moved back to Surry for the 1800 census. There is a record of a Thomas Lawson purchasing property in Surry County, NC, in from memory) 1779 but I can't prove he was living there until 1800.

Information stated on a death certificate is not always correct. It depends on what the informant knew or could remember correctly when they filled out the form. If you can find several other items which verify a different name for his father then the death cert is probably wrong.

On your first list (B, C, S) it looks good. I only spotted two things missing.
1840 Clement on the 1840 Census in Henry Co., TN and
1829 Hawkins, Clement selling/transferring land on Richardson's Creek in to Thomas Trent.

You have compiled a treasure trove.
I think Hennis is the son of Clement. He and Clement's son, Banks, were in Hawkins County together, went to Indiana together and came back to Hawkins together. In the Civil War pension of William Lawson (son of Hennis) it states that William and Curren (Banks' son) are first cousins. Some people have tried to "make" them cousins through their mothers but that's been an exercise in frustration. Both were named Lawson, so why not assume they're related through their fathers? This makes me almost certain that Hennis and Banks were brothers or possibly half-brothers, if Clement had a first, unknown, wife.
Some of the descendants of Samuel and Matthew Amyx ended up in Hawkins Co., TN. Some stayed, some went to Kentucky and some went west. On my Lawson father's side, his maternal grandmother was Kitty Lawrence, daughter of William Lawrence and Mary Frances Amyx.
CLEMENT and BURRELL LAWSON (was: Re: Lawson Families from Stokes County, NC)

I originally compiled this information to try to break down this brick wall. It is not proven, only presented for discussion / thought.

The name Clement seems to appear with some regularity through a few generations of the Hawkins Co., TN Lawsons, including our Pike Co., OH line, with Hawkins Co., roots.

Old Clement Lawson was born ca. 1772 and should show up in tax/census records by about 1790 - 1795 and doesn't - why ? When Clement does it is later and with irregularity. Burrell is also a bit irregular in his appearances. And who is this Samuel Lawson who disappears ? (There is also the absent Patmon and Sherod/Sherwood to consider)

Clement leaves TN and buys land in Rush Co., IN from 1812 vet. James Paxton. The Manis, Robinson, Reason, Bloomer families also of Hawkins Co., TN and extended kin Halls, Bulen and Hart (remember Richard Lawson and Frankey Hart ? - Clem's possible daughter-in-law Susan Manis Lawson (prev. married to Alem) divorced married a second time to a Geo Wash. Hart.

Clement and John Lawson plus William Howe (a key person to our Paschal Lawson) are in the War of 1812 together - Clem deserts, John is discharged a few days later - Paschal Lawson is born about the same year. There are no records of Burrell of the approx. same age being in the War of 1812 as yet discovered.

Hennis Lawson and Banks Lawson took the early path from TN to Jackson Co., IN and New Albany, Floyd Co., IN (just across the river/state line from Louisville, KY) from TN in 1830 where they appear in the census - Henus/Hennis appears simultaneously in IN and TN. Then they return to Hawkins Co., TN. Why ? The Banks family nearby...

Funny, a Hennis Banks is in the Rev War with Clement Lawson's grandson Burd same reg...

It does appear that Burrell was from closer to Amos/Moses Lawson group in Snow Creek area of Stokes Co. NE of the other Lawsons in Peter's Creek Area - this area borders on Halifax Co., VA so maybe there are records there also yet ubncovered ?

May be coincidence but need to investigate as although it may not be correct, the investigation may provide other links/cluse to ignore what is put before us...

B= BURRELL C = CLEMENT S = SAMUEL
B _ Tax List: _ 1793 NC, Stokes Co., Cap.’t Dearing’s Dist.
B _ Tax List: _ 1794 NC, Stokes Co., Cap.’t Dearing’s Dist.
B _ Tax List: _ 1796 NC, Stokes Co., Cap’t Ward’s District
B _ Tax List: _ 1797 NC, Stokes Co., Cap’t Ward’s District
B _ Tax List: _ 1800 NC, Stokes Co., Salisbury District
S _ Tax List: _ 1800 NC, Stokes Co., Salisbury District – Samuel Lawson
S _ Tax List: _ 1801 NC, Stokes Co., Cap’t Cloud’s District – Samuel Lawson
C _ Tax List: _ 1802 NC, Stokes Co., Cap’t Cloud’s District
C _ Tax List: _ 1803 NC, Stokes Co., Cap’t Cloud’s District
C _ Land Record _ 1803.10.15 Stokes Co.
LAWSON/WILHITE Connection

Does anyone have any information about a possible connection between LAWSON and WILHITE in KY ca 1700-`1800? A WILHITE descendent and myself were a match on 66/67 markers in a Family Tree DNA test. He doesn't have any known LAWSON ancestors and I've not been able to find any information past my GGGG Grandfather Isaiah Dedrick Lawson, b: 1806 KY, and a possible brother to Abia and Nicholas P Lawson.

BURRELL LAWSON (was: Re: Lawson Families from Stokes County, NC)
1790 Stokes Co., NC census:
Mirymon Lawson is shown - Peter Harston (Hairston) appears nearby.

1808.04.05: NC, Stokes Co. on April 5, Burrell Lawson witnessed sale of 75 acres by John Banks Sr. to Peter Hairston.

I got this from a Banks family researcher:
John Banks is said to have sold his land in Franklin Co.,Va. He apparently is the same man who bought 250 acres on Read Creek from Jesse Ayres. (Stokes Co. Deed Book 3 p. 38) On 5 April 1805, John Banks, listed as John Banks Sen., sold two tracts of land to Peter Hairston for 100 pounds. This included land on the head of Read Creek, which Banks purchased from Jesse Ayres. The deed notes that Banks "has lived there for several years" and that the land is located at the head of Reed Creek. The deed was presented to the court by Ford Southern.

1827: 1827.02.25 Burrell Lawson is surety for marriage of an as yet unidentified Andrew Lawson and Jane Lawson in TN, Hawkins Co.

There are also Hennis/Henness families in Stokes Co., NC specifically Benjamin Henness

=========================
THE HAIRSTON AMYX/AMIS AND SEAL CONNECTION:
=========================

Samuel Amyx, born 1745 in Botetourt Co.
Abner first appears in Hurrican, Lincoln Co. MO in the 1930 census. Interestingly all but his mother Frances and sister Agnes Pearl have moved away from Hurrican by 1940.

Wiley appears on page 8 #148 in Hurricane in the 1900 census and the previous entry #147 lists the family of Thomas W Lawson born March 1855 in TN. Any idea who the parents of Thomas are please. My study has included all US Lawson families which appear as part of my web site below.

www.yorksgen.co.uk

Wiley Preston Lawson

I'm a little confused. I'm not sure if this is a mistake...or not. But if you go to Missouri Digital Heritage, you can find W. P. Lawson, which is Wiley Preston Lawson, and a couple of things kind of throw me off. First, is the fact that they didn't write out his whole name. Secondly, why is his father's name listed as Preston Lawson, instead of Calloway Hodge Lawson like everywhere else has his father listed??

Robert Elmo Lawson lives in Salem, Oregon. Used to live in Missouri. He is my husband's Grandfather. I've been trying to contact him, but he has yet to email me back. My husband's mother has been in contact with him, and I've been trying to contact him through her. Abner Jackson and Hazels' graves can be found on Findagrave.com. And you can get information on their parents and their parents parents through there. Unfortunately, that's the only information I have of them right now.

But, if you're interested; Robert Elmo Lawson married Joann Canter and had, as far as I know, two sons; Robert Joseph Lawson (born: 16 Dec 1963) and Robert Gentry Lawson, and one daughter; Dorothy Lawson (born: 2 Jan 1966). Robert Elmo Lawson and Joann Canter are divorced.

Robert Lawson married Carey Elizabeth Pugh (b: 21 Sept 1965) and had three sons; Joshua Pacer Lawson (b: May 5th or 6th. Year unknown. He's about 29yo.), William Joseph Lawson (b: 29 Nov 1985), and Travis Lee Lawson (b: 14 June 1987). Robert Lawson and Carey Pugh divorced (date unknown) and Robert Lawson has yet to remarry and lives in Rosharon, Tx. Carey Pugh married a Mr. Simmons and now lives in Cleveland, Tx. (You won't find any of the information in the above paragraph anywhere on the web. Trust me, I've tried. haha)

I have no information on Robert Gentry Lawson.

Dorothy Lawson has several children from previous relationships, but they include Nichole Franklin (born Carwile), Jacob Chapa, Jolene Ward (born Chapa), and Jesse Martinez. Married Pete Martinez 13 May 2009.

Thank you for replying back to me. We have a family picture of a male Knisley says Uncle Rip that was in military uniform & no date given on it. Would you know the real name of Rip Knisley? My Mom did not know the name so we don't know if that is the real name or probably a nickname? I am trying to trace the Knisley family back from the census info. You're welcome to email directly: shaundabrown@att.net
My great-grandpa was Homer R. Knisley whom I do not believe I ever met. Homer was my grandma's father. Her parents divorced. I do not know if anyone on this Knisley branch has started any history or not?

I am researching the John Knisley & Mary (Lawson) Knisley branch. Cary Knisley son of John & Mary. Cary was my great-great grandpa. I am starting to research the Knisley side. Do you know if there has been a family tree started or any genaology started on the Knisley side? I see Mary was your grandmother. Any info would be great! Thank you.

Lawson/Whitaker

My grandfather was William E. Lawson, married to Ida Carter Lawson. His parents were Esom (Isom, Isham) Lawson and Mary Jane Whitaker. I believe Esom was the son of Elisha Lawson and Mary M. Thomas and Mary Jane was the daughter of William Perry Whitaker and Mary "Milly" Boyd. I found where Esom and Mary Jane married in 1888 at her parents home with Esom's sister, Millie, as witness. I don't find Mary Jane again until the 1910 census where she has a 1 yr. old daughter, Florida Whitaker and Mary Jane has changed her last name back to Whitaker. Mary Jane and Florida are living with Mary Jane's brother, Hulen, in the 1920 census and Mary Jane is living with her brother, Hulen in the 1930 census. Florida married Willie Price in 1930. Esom was dead in 1905 when their daughter, Anna Belle Lawson married Edgar Atkins Kirk in Missouri. My grandfather and his family lived in Oklahoma and his sister, Anna Belle, and her family lived in Oklahoma but I'm not sure if they saw much of each other. I don't believe they knew about their half-sister, Florida. If you have any of these people in your family tree, will you contact me at echobluff@rtconnect.net. Thank you. - Marianne Behrnes

Geraldine, I think we have two different Richards. But it's interesting that they started out in NC and both ended up in the mid-west. I think it might have been because there was homestead land available after the close of the Sac-Fox War when the government gave Indian land to settlers.
Larry, I understand your pride, I feel the same way. I have at least 4 old grandpas who were in the RW and numerous old uncles, including 5 from the same family and 3 from another family. We were in the War of 1812. The Civil War has more family represented that I have counted yet. My grandpa was at the Argonne Forest in WWI. My father and uncles served in WWII, one is buried in Germany. My husband and cousins were in the Korean Conflict, one is still listed as MIA. The other day I got to thinking, and my family had more people KBI (killed by Indians) than in all the wars combined. And all that means is that they were pioneers. I have suspected we might be attached to the Falling River Lawsons.
