Lawsons that have Cherokee heritage

I am seeking Lawsons that have Cherokee heritage. My grandma had Cherokee in her and I am trying to figure out which side she has Cherokee on. On her mothers side, I know there was Cherokee, I saw a picture of her grandma and she looked full blood. But her father had Cherokee features as well. I know that her father's mother was a Lawson and her father a Hill. I do not know any more than that. I am hoping that someone's Cherokee - Lawson line will sound familiar and I will be able to make a connection. My personal Email address is partcherokee@triad.rr.com in case anyone wishes to respond that way. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

ISHAM LAWSON

My grandfather was Andy Mack Collins he was born in 1888 in Knox County Kentucky. On his death cert it says his father was Ish Lawson and his mother was Jane Collins. From old family storis I gather they were not married to each other but other people when Andy was born so he had to take his mothers maiden name of Collins. He had a half sister named Amanda Lawson who married D.H. Woolum. Does anyone out there know of this story and could possible give me info on Jane Collins and Ish which I beleive is short for Ismal or Isham.

Hi, hoping to get some direction. My g-g grandfather was Pinckney Adger who was born about 1838 in Summerton, SC. I am learning now that he was sold by his father to possibly someone with a first or second name of Adger when he was very young. I have no information on my Pinckney's parents, but I do know that he had a sister, Annie Lawson. In the 1880 census, Pinckney had a Sam Lawson age 6 and listed as a nephew living with him, but that is my only additional clue. ANY information would be helpful.

I am a descendant of Gaines Lawson and Laura Lawrence. He was a Captain in the US Army in 1870, Duncan Fort, Maverick, TX. I cannot find him before this time. He may be the son of Malvina Piney Lawson but not positive.

I am also looking for Laura's family. Her mother's name was Laura Lawrence also (though her married name) b. (1818-1826) and lived with the Lawsons in the 1870 and 1880 Census. Laura (daughter) said she was born in Florida but I can find no record of this. Laura (mother) said she was born in South Carolina/New York. Diff Census said diff things.

The children of Gaines and Laura Lawson include: Eugene G. b 1870. in Mississippi, Katherine (Kate), b.1874 in Kansas, and Lawrence? b. 1869 in Wash, D.C. The family moved around a lot, which makes this harder. Katherine married a Neumann at some point.

Any help would be appreciated!

Still searching for my Lawson lines

Hi,
I posted before and in reply I was given the information that my Haston/Hasten/Hastin/Hasting Lawson (b.1870 maybe in Virginia or North Carolina) married to Laura E. (Gilreath) Lawson had the parents of Jona Lawson (b. 1848) married Areany (?)(b1843).
I have been searching in vain for any information to confirm that Jona and Areany are Haston/Hasten/Hastin/Hasting's parents with no luck. Most of my family line I've been told comes from Scott County/ Rogersville, but I can't confirm this either since I can't find proof.
Since I posted my original message I have gotten enormous amounts of information on my Bledsoe and Gilliam side, but nothing so far on my Lawson's.
Can anyone help me please? I'd love to find something, anything to give me a lead. Even to find out who Hasten/Haston/Hastin/Hasting's siblings are would be greatly appreciated. Please.

Thank you,
L. Woods

Gaines Lawson and family information

No, I do not know who his biological father was... YET.

However, I do have a number of documents belonging to and about Gaines et al which were sent to me by a very kind Lawson descendent.

First of all, to ktsok- please see my response to you regarding Eugene, who I'm fairly certain was the son of Gaines. (See Maverick, TX 1880 Census).

I will offer some random, though hopefully helpful, information. I apologize if anything has already been said in the other amazingly well-detailed thread about this family. Everyone helped my research a great deal.

1. I have his death certificate which gives his birthday as 9-4-1840. Col. Gaines Lawson, MOH winner, moved to California in 1894, moving to Pasadena in 1906, months before his death. He died of lung cancer with secondary exhaustion and hydrothorax (fluid in the lungs).

His first wife, Laura, died in 1894, so it's possible he remarried. However, he was widowed at the time of his death. No informant is given. No parental names are given.

2. Piney Lawson, aged 62, lived in the household of Riley Shanks in the 1880 Census. They lived two doors away from McClellan Lawson. I believe this is our Piney Lawson, given everything else that has been said. I realize that she would have had to be 12 or 13 when she had John and McClellan, but odder things have happened. (Assuming the age is accurate).

3. If Gaines Lawson is difficult to place, it's because he traveled extensively during his military career. In his retirement letter, he described various homes over the years. After Tennessee, he went to N. Carolina ("Spring of 1865"). He "served in Louisiana from December 1866 to 1870" and then "in Texas and the Indian Territory from 1870 to 1878." After that, he mentioned spending time in "Dakota, Minnesota and Montana."

4. One document I have mentions several "facts". Apparently, Col. Gaines Lawson was the uncle of Rev. Gaines Lawson. It also mentions Piney "Shanks" Lawson as being the mother of John, Clem, Jane, Gaines, and Francis Cave.

I am off to bed but will add more later!

Ashley

George W. & Harriet Lawson, Stony Creek, Madison County, Indiana

I have had some trouble with George W. Lawson as their seem to be a few of them in the Anderson area. So far this is what seems to be correct. Any further information folks may have in either direction would be much appreciated!

George W. Lawson born in Tennessee Dec. 1848. Died July 27, 1930 in Stony Creek or Mt Pisgah which is near Anderson, Madison County, Indiana. His wif'e name is Harriet, don't know her maiden name yet. I have George on the 1870, 80, 1900, 10, 20, 30 census all in Stony Creek. He served in Company G of the 135th infantry in Tuscola Illinois in 1864, in the Civil War. His obit says he was a member of the G.A.R. post in Anderson, but I don't know what that refers to. His obit also says that for many years he kept a diary of interesting events. I wonder if this was passed down to his children?

Children of George and Harriet were (11):
Lina A.
Callie B.
Ida V.- Ida and Viola may be the same person or they may be see abovetwins, both born in 1874
Viola - see above
Oliver
Rufus
Harriet (Hattie)
Melvin Delbert
Grover Ernest
Donna M.
Bessie E.

They were all born in Stony Creek between 1870 and 1892

Melvin Delbert married Clara Benzenbauer, daughter of (not positive here)Frederick Bensenbower and Catherine Doktor.
Their children that I know of were:
Ernest Carey Lawson (sometimes the first name is Carey)
Willis Ortho Lawson (somtimes the first name is Ortho)

Ernest married Betty Lou Snyder, daughter of William Grover Snyder and Osee V. Johnson
Their Children are:
Barbara Elaine Lawson *****This is my mother-in-law
Margo Lawson

Ernest and Betty Lou were divorced. Betty Lou re-married Leon Faux and the girls were legally adopted. Therefore, my mother-in-law remembers very little about her Lawson family. So I'm trying to help her as best as I can. So far she has been really thrilled with the info I've gathered. I beleive Ernest also remarried and had a daughter. Or he may have been married to someone else before he married Betty Lou Snyder, I'm not sure which is correct. In any case, My mother-in-law may have living relatives that we don't know about, but we sure would love to!

Any help with our Lawson line would be great! Also, any help with the Benzenbauer, Snyder or Johnson lines is also most welcome!

You can e-mail me directly at PennyDeMora@verizon.net

Thank You!

Penny
Any information on this family which escaped from Virginia in 1855-1866 somewhere in between those dates. I believe Henry brought his wife Sophia H. Still not sure on the last name but that's what I found out, and his brother William. He is my gr-gr-gr-grandfather he married my grandmother's mother in 1860. William, Henry and Sophia ran from the slave owners and settled in Peel twp, Ontario, Canada. William & Mary-Ann Lawson (Cromble) started a very large family. Which I'm still working on locating them. Any information on this family or slave owners that would have owned them please e-mail back. They are not Scottish or English like most of this message board but African Americans with the same last name. And a very interesting life so far
thanks Rhonda Bolton

Lawsons of Georgia and Alabama

I'm looking for information on the Andrew Berry Lawson family (23 Jan 1834 - 24 Feb 1890). He was married to Amantha Manora Sellers on 22 Sep 1879. His son was Hugh Winfield Lawson. I believe that Andrew was born in Georgia, but lived in Alabama in Monticello, Pike, Alabama in 1880. I'm looking for Andrew's parents. Believe Andrew served in the civil war for the confederacy.

I am trying to find information on Fanny Louisa Lawson, born approx. 1849 in Southampton, England. This information is taken from various census returns. She married James Martin on Sept. 26, 1875 however, I cannot decipher her fathers name on the marriage cert. I have looked many times and cannot find any reference to her birth in the birth lists. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do next? Would be grateful for any help at all.

My name is Mark Graham Lawson. My great, great grandfather Isaac Richey Lawson, born in Rockbridge county Virginia in 1820 was one of 11 children that lived according to his letter. If I read his letter correctly his father was also named Isaac R Lawson and his mother may have been one Ann Wilson. He mentions an uncle James Lawson who was believed to have fought with Andrew Jackson at the battle of New Orleans and then settled in Tennessee. He also mentions the Ebenezer Church near House Mountain Va. He Moved to Hillsboro Ohio, Married Elizabeth Medsger they had one son Medsger Lawson who may have gone to Arkansas or Oklahome and become a minister. Elizabeth died and he moved to Danville, Indiana married twice and produced children with each wife. One son, Charles Lawson moved to Hannibal Mo. another son, Wilson Terah Lawson became a physician and is recorded in Ripley's as the oldest practicing physician in the United States at the time. My great grandfather was Isaac's son, Henry D. Lawson. I am seeking links, history, information

Re: Ancient Lawsons of Yorkshire and Westmorland

Just came across an interesting item about Queen Catherine Parr found in "Sam Sloan's Big Combined Family Tree" website: (quote)
"Historian Strype concluded that Mary must have died in childhood, but historian Strickland believes she lived to become a wife and mother, marrying a Sie Edward Bushel, by who she had a daughter through whom her fortune and pedigree eventually descended to the Lawson family who originally came from Westmorland and Cumberland. There is yet to be any documented proof of this, the evidence is only from the 18th C."

Sam Sloan's site also indicates that: Catherine Parr was born in 1512 in Kendal Castle, Kendal, Westmorland, England. She died on 5 Sep 1548 in Sudley Castle, Sudley Manor, Glouucestershire, England. The cause of death was Died in Childbirth. She was buried in Sudley Chapel, Sudley Castle, Gloucestershire, England. She married Thomas Seymour on 3 Mar 1546/1547.
Other marriages: Neville, John and Henry VIII King of England.
Catherine Parr and Thomas Seymour had the following children:
Mary Parr Seymour was born on 29 Aug 1548 in Sudley Castle, Sudley Manor, Gloucestershire, England. She died after 17 Mar 1549/1550 in Child.

If this is true...how do we find the LAWSON connection?

I too am researching the truth of the claim that members of the ancient Lawson clan are descendants of Catherine Parr through her daughter, Mary Lawson, born 30 August 1548, from Katherine's marriage to Sir Thomas Lawson

It has long been though in the family that we descended from Catherine Parr through the Lawson connection.

Connecting with Descendants of Nevel Riley Lawson and Rebecca Smith

I am a descendant of Nevel (sometimes spelled Neville) Riley Lawson and Rebecca Smith. They were married about 1850 in Union County, South Carolina.

They moved to Cherokee County, Georgia around 1858. Their
children were
Warren Thomas -- married Elmina Sartor
Nancy Jane -- married Page
John (Bailey?) -- married Mary ?
Olivia Catherine -- Wilburn Carnes
Cynthia Rosetta -- James J. Sartor
James Hiram -- Susan Howell
William Riley -- Victoria Bramblett
Tempia Lucinda -- Lewis J. Baldwin
Mattie Bell (possibly Martha Bell) -- David Sewell

I would like to correspond with others from this line. Tempia Lawson Baldwin was my great-grandmother.

Also, as a side note, I have been unable to determine Nevel's mother's name. Most researchers think her name was Tempe. There are two Tempes in Union County -- a Tempe Duke born 26 Dec 1796 and Tempe Pridmore born about 1802. There are strong Duke connections in this family line. (Rebecca Smith's mother was Amanda "Amy" Duke, the youngest daughter of Major Duke and Elizabeth Drury and Nevel Lawson's grandmother was Priscilla Duke, this couple's oldest daughter.) These connections lead me to believe that Tempe Duke the daughter of Shadrack Duke and Angelina "Dicey" Roberts may be Nevel's mother.

Hi, I'm trying to sort out the different Lawson families that emigrated to Ontario, Canada from Scotland in the early 1800's. I think that a lot of the Lawsons that settled in Ontario may share a common ancestor. YDNA will sort us out! You can participate (at a discount) if you join the current Lawson DNA project managed by Carl Lawson at www.lawsondna.org.
Regards, Andrew Lawson

I need some help finding the parents of Lucina Lawson born 1869/70. On her death certificate the informant (her daughter) lists her parents as Colonal Lawson and Margaret Henderson both born in TN. I was told that Lucina was a Wear but on numerous documents her maiden name is listed as Lawson. She also married a Lawson. I did find a marriage license for a CW Lawson and Margaret Henderson in Bradley CO. in Sept. of 1898. I find them on the Bradley Co 1870 census with infant daughter Lucina. Lucina appears on the 1880 Blount Co census living with the Wears and a Winwright Lawson listed as her father. Can anyone help me here as to the identity of this Winright, CW and or Colonal Lawson?
