Born 4 May 1837 in Greenville county, SC and died 3 Jun 1925. Are there any descendants or researchers of this line around the boards here that could possibly help me clear up some of the research I have on this family?

I am the one in Alabama. I do not know how this is going to go. I was hoping to find League's to get together and post their lines and see if we could find out qwho is connected. By any chance are You a descendenantof William and John League. They have our branch listed as Descended from them in one place biut I am skeptical. I have also done a dna test with ftdna.I wonder if any one form Willliam's line has also.

I have been looking for information on George Stephen League for a very long time. He was born in 1806 in Virginia, according to 1850 Cass County, Illinois Census Records and about two weeks ago I found a William League born in Virginia in 1804; who moved to Ohio. I am looking for information on William; just in case he is George Stephen League's brother or a cousin perhaps. But since they are only two years apart, I wonder if they are brothers. If you have any information on William League please let me know. Thank-you!

My mystery ancestor is eluding me completely. I'm beginning to think the facts may be inaccurate. Although I did find a William League in Virginia born in 1804. Is he George Stephen's brother? Or maybe not. Also, Why does George have the middle name Stephen? Perhaps his father is Stephen or an uncle perhaps? I am also looking for Reuben, and David. All of these names appear numerous times in our family tree. So I am on the look out for Reuben born in the early 1800's, Stephen born in the early 1800's, William has been found -if he is connected to my George Stephen League, George and David.

What I want to know is if anyone who has traced their tree future than 1780 thinks I am part of their family tree. If so I would like to know. I'm trying to find information so I can get future back on my tree and find my country of origin. I'd like to know what family line I belong to. I already know about the descendants of George Stephen League. I would really appreciate any help or suggestions. Thank you!

I've heard that also, but I also found on the internet that League originates from the Scottish Kingdom Of Dalriada which also existed in the highlands of Ireland. In fact it states that many people migrated from the Dalriada in Ireland to the Dariada Kingdom in Scotland. The Gaelic form of the name League name is M'A'Lios or Mac Giolla losa meaning 'Son of the Servant of Jesus.' and comes in many forms. MacLeish, MacCleish, McLise, McLish, MacGillies, MacLeash, and many more.

Glad to see you are still on board. Saw you post Sunmday morning on my way to church. I may have lots of info for you on your family. Let me search my records. I am descended from Samuel League of Dekalb Co. Dekalb Co. wasw formed from Smith Co., thus the confusion about where your family comes from. So far my cousins and I have traced three sets of Leagues that originated in Smith, Dekalb and Putnam counties.

I haven't been able to get anywhere with my genealogy. However, my family of leagues are a mixed breed (said to be french and african american. My father was Felix eugene League born in the 1920s. He had one brother, Robert C league. His parents were Henry and Lucille League, who were from smith county, tenesee. some have told me that it was also known as DeKalb. I am a product of a second marriage, but all of us, as well as my father, are very fair complected. Any info you may have on mixed breed League would be greatly appreciated.

I think at least some of the early Leagues were English such as WIlliam and another John League. I ahve never found any proof that my ancestors were Irish although they are according to family tradition. Tjey came in the 1700's or possibly the 1600's. I ahve nopt gotten pst Aaron born In the 1700's in Virginia.

Your information makes sense; I still have family in MD and DE, but since my grandfather has died (Thomas E League), my branch of Leagues has pretty much relocated to Pennsylvania, and the family I have down in MD and DE don't bear the surname, anymore. My uncle never had any children to pass the name on. There certainly weren't many Irishmen in that area of Maryland during that time, so I always assumed my grandfather was right, and we were English Leagues.

Thanks for the update. Just so you know, I live in MD and have done a lot of research into this subject. I have never been able to connect William League of 1680 to any other later Leagues. There is a gap between 1680 and the early 1700s were the League name never appears in any records that I have found. Then, the League name/family is found to coninuously inhabit the eastern Baltimore County area of Chase and the Gunpowder River. I am directly descended from this line.<br><br>The earliest references to the name I can find are:<br><br>Thomas Leage arriving in VA between 1663 and 1679<br>William League demanding rights to property in 1680 <br>William Leagar (could be a misspelling) in 1671.<br><br>The exact wording of the 1680 William League entry in the record is: "William League of Kent Co. demands rtts to fifty Acres of Land for his time of Service performed in this Province. Warrant then grants to said League for Fifty Acres of Land owe to him as above."<br><br>Since it was common in 17th century MD for indentured servants to serve 3-4 years before receiving their promised parcel of land, one could assume that William actually arrived sometime in the 1670s and served his time farming on a plantation.<br><br>I have seen many references in this community to the League name being of Irish origin. This may be true, but I rather doubt there were many Irish immigrants arriving in Maryland at that time. At least the lists of passengers that exist are populated primarily with Englishmen.

I think they may not have been originally Irish, although the name itself has a certain Irish feel for it. At that point in time, the English were everywhere and intermarried. I did the same thing and got the same answers: some say Scottish, some say English, some say Irish.

To be honest with you I don't remember. I believe someone found him in Queen Anne's County Maryland. He first came to Kent COunty Maryland from England in 1680. I had been in touch with the Maryland Historical SOciety and for the hour of research they did they told me that after a certain date he was no longer found in Kent County.I understand he was married to someone named Mary and had a son named John.I tried doing some research in one county. It was freee but I got what I paid for.Nothing. The Maryland Historical Society does research. A few years ago they did it for me for $40.00. I think it is at least $60.00 per hour now.

It is just about entirely myy relatives on there. My intention is to find people who will share information. I have taken the DNA test with ftdna about 2 years ago. I am descended from Aron League who lived in Virginia in the 1700's. I have hoped different families could share their research and let one another know if they had taken the DNA test so it might answer some questions.

Hi Gary,<br>I have a few question which I would be ever so grateful to have answered. I have this on the Austin line. Reverend Simeon Austin's father was Freeman Austin who was born March 6, 1770 in Rhode Island and married Catherine Van Wagenen April 18, 1799 in Westchester County, New York; and his father was Thomas Austin who was born in Ma. or RI in the year 1745 and married Mary Dawley. Can you tell me who Thomas Austin's father and mother were and the birth, marriage and death dates are? And who their parents were? Is Robert Thomas father or grandfather or great, grandfather? I appreciate so much any information that you can give me.I have some information on Walter and I do not know if you have it but let me know and perhaps we can exchange. My information is from several places, relatives, historical societies and genealogical groups and some from the internet, including here. Thank you! I also information about Victor League, Reuben Mixom's son and a little about the other sons. God Bless, Donna

I forget what the cost is. It might be that it is around$50 for the minimum markers. I got more than the minimum tested. it is funny you say Ireland because I bought a family history plaque that sys League is a name found in England. Houseofnames.com has League as Scottish but,Ancestry and a name encyclopedia have it as English. Some Leagues did come from England and some from Ireland. I had somebody search for me in Maryland and someLeagues were Irish but they could not have been my family because they did not get here untill the 1800's.

It is definitely a possibility - I know the Coat of Arms says Ireland, although immigration records say England... it's very confusing, actually, and I know my aunt was stuck on this particular detail. No one has tested DNA, frankly it's too expensive at this point; but I would love to do so in the future. Like I said, my tree was done previously, and I am slowly working through it again to fix any discrepancies. This is one of them :)
