I am trying to track my husband's ancestry, and I have it going back to a man and woman named Manuel and Mary Leal who lived in Honolulu Hawaii, in the early 1900's. I'm sort of stuck there, and I'm very curious as my husband has the name Leal in his name!! My husband's line comes from their daughter, so the Leal name stopped being the actual last name with her, once she married. Thank you for any help you can offer :)

Since my first post I've confirmed my grandfather's name is Reginald Edwin Leal son of Reginald Douglas Leal...however I am still very much interested in connecting with Leal's that may be from this line originating in Scotland.

I have recently started research on my family name. My father's name is Reginald Douglas Leal and though not verified, his father's name is Reginald Leal. My grandfather was in the Royal Canadian Navy stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the time of my father's birth there in 1933. I would be interested if anyone finds this familiar.

My great grandfather was David George Leal and he emigrated from Ireland to Australia. I recently came across a letter from my grandmother (David's daughter) to my eldest sister saying David had a number of other siblings. One of these brothers emigrated to Canada.

Do you have any detail about George (birth date, birth place, parent's names) that might help me link your George and my David?

I am fairly new to Ancestry.com and just seeing your message from several years ago.

The Leals in my family emigrated from the Azores to California. My grandfather's brother, Joaquim Leal, was married and later divorced a woman who moved to Texas with their son, Paul Leal. I was able to track down Paul Leal's family to a daughter, Leota Leal. Paul had died in 2003.

Do any of these names fit into your family tree?

If you go to the front of the San Antonio old courthouse....a newly placed Texas State plaque is there naming the Spanish noble families that were the original Canarie Islanders that settled the region in 1731. Three out of the 16 heads of family were Leal. Juan Leal, Jose Leal and Juan Leal Goraz. I took a picture. If you would like a copy, e-mail me.

P.S - I also went to Gallegos España, met Leal family members and saw a striking resemblance to members of my family (especially my father) here in the U.S. We were deemed noble by King Santiago IV and declared to be of noble blood by King Phillip V when relocated to the Americas.

Diego Chapa who lived in Pleasanton was married to a Feliz Leal. They had several children; Cleofas,Tomas, Micaela, Concha,Anita and El Guerro Chapa ( I did not recall his first name). All of them are deceased but their children still live in Pleasanton or in San Antonio. Diego and Feliz are buried at Leal Cemetary in Pleasanton. In one of your comments you indicated going to the cemetery. Would that be Leal Cemetery on Leal Road in Pleasanton, Texas?. Anyone having family members buried at the Leal Cemetery would mean we have the same lineage.

I was born in Harlingen but my mom, Olivia Leal villarreal was born in La Paloma in 1911. Her brother was Federico and a sister Fidela. Federico had like 14 kids. There was another brother that had passed away when I was little but he had a bunch of kids. My mom had 9. I am the youngest at 61. Two brother still live in the valley. My father's name is Francisco Manuel Carvalho Leal. I found what is supposedly the Leal Family crest. We are descendent of Kings and nobles. The last name was originally given to people who in there lifetime were considered Loyal and Regal. I would like to know more about my family tree as well as specific stories of my ancestors. She attended Harwood School for Girls, Browning Business School, and worked at Sandia National Laboratories, University of California (Livermore) and was a supervisor with Social Security Data Operations Center in Albuquerque. My grandfather was don Jose Hermenigildo Leal married to Aquilina de la Torre. They had 10 children. I believe they were born in Las Palmas Tenerife Grand Canary Is. Could your Marta be a sibling of Jose? Im not sure when they arrived Cuba.

My father was Jesus Leal Garza born 1908, son of Jesusa Flores Leal Garza and Juan Olivares father. My father was also know as "El Ponjollo" My father lived in Casa Grande, Arizona for many years after leaving Pleasanton,Texas. A Texan is always a Texan. Therefore, visited Uncle Alfredo,aunt Anita, Concha Chapa, Anita Chapa Trevino, Micaela Chapa Saucedo and Tio Diego when vacationing in Pleasantion. Yes, I am a distance cousin, if Felicita Leal Chapa was your kin. I visited Cementerio Leal about four years ago and saw the graveside of Tio Diego and Tia Felicita Leal Chapa. My grandmother was the daughter of Manuel Leal who established the Community of Leal, Texas. Uncle Alfredo and his family have lived in Poteet for many years. Uncle Alfredo died about two years ago. His daughter Susie,her husband and children continue to live in Poteet. Uncle Jose Leal Garza died in El Paso, Texas this past December 10, 2011. I remember going to visit Tio Diego at the ranch and meeting Guero and Tomas Chapa. I also met Jose also known as Jose Palitos. I think Jose was a family members who never married. All the Leal's, Rodriquez, Trevino's, Chapa's etc.. that live in Pleasanton are relatives. My aunt Anita's children by the last name of Garza Leal continue to live in Floresville, Texas. Anita Chapa Trevino recently died and some of her children continue to live in Pleasanton. Lets share information. My cousin Edward Leal and I are researching Leal to find out whether we are descendant of Manuel Goraz Leal who arrived in La Villita De San Fernando (San Antonio,Texas) in 1731 by way of the Canary Islands. I am a descendant of the Leal family in Pleasanton Texas, my grandmother was Felicita Leal Chapa,I was raised about one mile from the Leal cemetery. Most of my family aunts & uncles,cousins, including my mother Jesus Leal Chapa Ramos are buried there.I remember the Leal school,also remember Manuel Leal who i believe was my grandmother's cousin,I believe there is or was a family in Poteet Texas, Alfredo Garza related also to my grandmother. In fact my wife and i were at the Leal cemetery on Sunday July 17, 2011.The last survivor of the Leal family that i know is my uncle Alberto Leal Chapa, son to felicita Leal Chapa.

Haven't been working on this much, but thought I'd post summary of efforts.

I have the original SSN application of my great grandmother, Gregoria Fuentes. Maiden name Leal, parents Estevan and Estanislada. Have not found any baptismal record, marriage record, or immigration record from Mexico to TX.

Also have original SSN application of my g-grandfather, which shows address of Uvalde, TX in 1943, a year before your records indicate the death of Estonislada.

Cecilia was a Luna. She married Don Carmen Leal. They had Tiburcio, my grandfather. One of the Juan's died in battle and the other has a bunch of family in the Corpus area. So does Paula. Hope this helps.
