I believe that Anderson Leamon was my great-great grandfather. I also have that he was married to Patsy Gardner, but his birth was about 1826 and he died in 1867. I'll email you with the lineage that I have found, which seems to go back to Germany by way of Pennsylvania.

Are you sure we're related? - I have a John Leamon who was born in 1816 whose father was George Leamon. John's son was also John Leamon but I know for sure they were based in London/southampton for the duration of their lifetimes.

Saying this.. Leamon is certainly less common than Leaman and the likelihood of us being related in some way is high!

I believe we are distant cousins - both having descended from James Leamon of the Rev. War British Army. I am named after James Leamon - but like you, my name has been altered to Leaman. My name is James Leaman Waller IV. This spelling change occurred during the 20th century in our family.

My other ggg grandfather, Coporal William Waller of Virginia, apprehended James Leamon at the Battle of Trenton. They became lifelong friends - moving westward togeher with their families, including James' son (your gggg grandfather), John Leamon born 29 Dec 1793 in Monongalia Co.,VA (now within Preston Co., WV).

Sue and Richard Leamon of CA and I had a grave monument for James' wife Rebecca Matheny Leamon put at the Leamon Cemetery near Yale in Jasper Co., IL where she is reported to have been the first grave there ca 1848.

Jim

Re: Leamon Family

"James Leamon was a British Red Coat soldier from Scotland who was captured during the Battle of Trenton, New Jersey, 26 Dec. 1776. Leamon was one of 70 British regulars in winter quarters there with 1,600 Hessians. He was captured by Corporal William Wallar of the 11th Regiment, 9th Company of the Continental Virginia Line. Leamon was exchanged and then deserted the British army and went to the home of William Wallar in Berkley Co. VA -- now in Jefferson Co. West VA between Shepherdstown and Harpers Ferry. They became life long friends and lived as neighbors and moved together with their families to Preston Co. VA and again to Guernsey Co., Ohio. Four of their children intermarried. William Leamon married Leanner Wallar and Elisha Waller married Jane Leamon." This information comes from Jim Waller, a descendant of Jane Leamon. Jim has a memoir written by Elias Waller, grandson of the original James Leamon. It is the best documentation that anyone has found. Leamon's name is found among the prisioners at Lancaster on 27th Sept. 1777 listed are: 16th Light Dragoons, Corporal Leamon, and 17th Regiment, William Lemon. There are a few other stories about the origin of James Leamon but they are not confirmed with documentation. I've never found anything about how James got into the army, whether it was voluntary or not.

I'm not positive on his name and also wondered if anyone ever found definite info around how he came to the USA. Was he abducted and made to fight in the Revolutionary War, or did he join on his own? I've heard both stories but have never found documentation for either. Do you know?
I recently purchased two photos in Alton, Illinois. I believe the couple in the photo
are Edwin and Ruth Leamon who were married December 31, 1929. The other photo is identified
as Ethel Leamon. She is riding in a cart pulled by a goat.

I found Ethel and Edwin in the 1920 Census for Grandville, Jasper County, IL with their parents
Lester, CM (Carrie May), and brother Harry.

Please contact me if you have an interest in these photos.

Kathy@FamilyWeSearch.com

When was your Toby born? I have a Samuel Leamon born Feb 22, 1819 in Hawkins Co. TN who married Anna Jane Brookshire born abt 1825. All of their children were born in McMinn Co., between 1843 and 1866. They moved to Sumach GA around 1870 as Anna Jane died in Sumach Ga 26 Aug 1877, and Samuel died their Aug 7, 1896. The family appears on the McMinn census on the 1850 and 1860 census have not been able to find them in 1870 but they are on the 1880 Murray Co. GA census.
Just recently received information on Samuel and Anna Jane parents.

Samuel's parents were Garsette Leamon and Elizabeth Lea Hicks. With such an unusual first name you would think he would be easy to find.
Anna Jane parents were James Brookshire and G Ray.

I have never been able to find anything on either Garsette Leamon or Elizabeth Hicks or any of their children, and nothing on Anna Jane parents or her siblings.
If you have come across any of these names please contact me.
Hi- I thing your Barbara Leaman may be my g-g-g-grandmother. The dates match her birth date per a copy of a patterson family bible family records page. Barbara [no maiden name listed] married James Patterson, and second son was Daniel Leaman Patterson. The family came from Lancaster County, PA, and then moved to Belmont County, Ohio.

Faith - if you're still around, would there be any chance of getting a copy (digital would be fine) of that bible page?

Anderson moved his family back and forth between TN and GA too. I looking forward to your reply.

I also have Leamon's from TN. I first found them on the 1850 McMinn TN census, Samuel born abt 1820 is as far back as I have been able to go, he married Anna Jane Brookshire born abt 1825 ( it took forever to find Anna maiden name)which happened to be on one of the children obit. They had 11 children and also moved back and forth between TN and GA with some of the children going down into Fl. There are no male Leamon left on my side to take a DNA test but keep hoping I will find one among one of the other children. I remember hearing they were Dutch/German

She doesn't know anything about him except he was born in 1869 and died in 1936. I have tried to trace the Leamon side of her family but hit a road block with James.
Anderson Leamon

Hi,
I'm looking on any information on Anderson Leamon (Leman/Lemons) born abt. 1826 in Tennessee and died abt. 1877 in Tennessee. He married Martha "Patsy" Gardner in abt. 1845. They had the following children: Samuel Thomas, Elizabeth, Louisa, Frances, William Hamilton, Matilda, Alfred Jefferson, James M., and Mary Elizabeth. All children were born in either Tennessee or Georgia as the family moved back and forth between the two. My Dad has done the DNA testing and we don't match with the Laymon from Tennessee, but we do match with Leman surname from Scotland. I think there's a possiblity that Anderson could have been orphaned as child and was an indentured servant. I'm waiting on a book from library that will let me know, hopefully, if the two are the same. Any help would be great. I have lots of information on descendants if anyone is related to this family.
Sheila Leamon-Tallent
Faith --
I found a message you posted last year in the Mailing List for Leamon. You mentioned a family Bible, and included the name of James A. Leamon, possibly born in Ohio.
My GGGGrandfather was James A. Leamon, and I have found out from other family members that he was born in New Market, Highland County, Ohio in 1842. The name and birthyear match what you mentioned in your posting.
Have you been able to find any more information in the past year? My GGGG ended up in Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa, and married into the Bates family.

Leamon in Ohio and Iowa

My GGGGrandfather was James A. Leamon. I have heard that he was born about 1842 in New Market, Highland County, Ohio. He was married to Sarah E. Bates in Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa in 1870. After three children, and (hopefully) a full life, he died in 1907 in Wapello. If this information rings a bell with anyone, I would certainly like to hear from you.

Esther and Frederick Maeulen are my gr-Aunt and gr-Uncle. They were married in St. Louis Oct. 20 1947 but lived next door to me in Williamsport, Lycoming Co. Pa. They lived part of the year in NYC at the Holland Hotel for his work as back stage manager for plays. Esther had a brother, George and Robert and their mother was Elizabeth H Leamon 1851-1952 also lived two doors down on the same street, and father George R. 1845-1926. A .Daniel, d. 1869 and Christianna, d. 7/20/18?? I think they are the parents of George, that married Rebecca. all are buried at Wildwood cemetery in Williamsport, Lycoming Co. PA.. I have pictures but they are not too good. I will make another trip maybe next year.
