I went to an estate sale in Sun City Center, Fl. I just spotted the pictures. As I said, they are realy old. I have done this before---reunited postcards and letters with family. I bought the pictures for $2 each. There was an entire box of postcards but I left them. I had contacted several people with the Shelar name, but none of them were too interested. The wedding picture of Grace's parents are among them---Mamie Elizabeth Sheler and Warren Clark (parents of Grace Elizabeth. There is also a picture of Sadie Sheler, mother of Mamie. Is this your direct line? My email address is linda.c.peterson@verizon.net

Julie, I just found a marriage record for Gazaway Leasure! He married Matilda Watkins on 15 Mar 1809 in Montgomery Co MD. His name in the record is spelled "Gassoway Lyshear." They appear in the 1820 census in Montgomery Co MD with three sons under age 10 and one daughter under age 10 and one daughter between 10-16. I am still trying to find out if Gazaway is the father of my Ephraim Leasure. How is your research coming along?
Leslie (Lewisparr@olympus.net)

Hi , Do you by any chance have information on My GGG Grandparents Catherine Leasure who was born in June 1812 and married John Daugherty(Dougherty) in 1830 he was born in August 13, 1804 in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County,PA I believe known as Armburst,PA or Weavers Old Stand depending what political party was in office determined what they called the area.John died in Sept 21, 1889 in Pitcairn, Allegheny County,PA and Catherine Leasure died in July 1874 in Penn Township, Westmoreland County,PA and John and Catherine lived down by Abers Creek which ran all the way from Murrysville/Penn Township borderline all the way up thru Plum Boro,PA. John and Catherine had nine children and I might be off by one and they were buried in Buelah U.P. Church Cemetery on Pleasant Valley Road in Penn Township. See it became Penn Township in Feb 23, 1855 and before that it was Franklin Township, Westmoreland County,PA and their oldest son was William L.(Leasure) Dougherty born in 1831 in MillGrove,PA and married to Mary Margaret McWilliams born in 1838 and William L. Dougherty died in 1917 and Mary Margaret McWilliams died in 1916 and they are buried in Irwin Union Cemetery in Irwin, Westmoreland County,PA and William L. Dougherty was in the PA 212th Regiment 6th Hvy Artillery and their oldest son was Lovengere Leasure Dougherty known as L.L. Dougherty or Uncle Lov he was born in 1862 and he married Maltilda Nancy Kinemond in 1901 and she was born in 1870 in Hickory, Washington County(Mt Pleasant Township)PA and he lived at Daughertys Grove in LevelGreen,PA than moved to 17 Broadway Avenue North Irwin,PA Lov and Tillie had one child a son by the name of Clarence H. Daugherty born in 1895 in 1 Broadway Avenue North Irwin,PA and Lov died in January 1899 and Maltilda known as Tillie to everyone died in 1955 but after Lov passed away she married George Henry Gamber from Duncannon,Rye Township,Perry County,PA. Clarence Hilliard Daugherty 1895-1967 married Marion Gertrude Harper around 1921 and he ran the Irwin Transfer Freight Business and would pickup all the Freight at the Irwin Train Station in Irwin,PA and would deliver it in the local area as far as Pittsburgh,PA. Could you please send me any info or pictures that you may have on her and on the John Daugherty(Dougherty) side we think his father was William and he had a brother John and John had a brother William but its an educated guess. Any help would be appreciated. Hugh Fawcett lkyspgot57@aol.com

I am also descendant of Daniel Leasure, Civil War Colonel, whose info can be found on wikipedia.com. It said something about Abraham being from Switzerland near the French border. My grandparents always told me we were part French.

Hi Dorothy, If you ever find out that information on the John Boyd Leasure and Julia Daugherty and who their children were and dates I would truly appreciate because I think it ties into the John M. Daugherty Line because he was married to Catharine Leasure born in 1812 and died in 1874 in Harrison City, Penn Township, Westmoreland County,PA . Thanks John and Catharine are my GGG Grandparents and if I cold help you I will just send me your email address. Mine is lkyspgot57@aol.com Thanks , Hugh Fawcett Greensburg,PA

Hi Peggy, Who was JohnBoyd Leasures parents and grandparents because My GGG grandparents were John M. Daugherty born August 13, 1804 and died in Sept 21, 1889 at his daughters log cabin Henereitta Daugherty married to Franklin P. Dible buried over in the Ston Church Cemetery in Monroeville behind Miracle Mile Shopping Center and John and Catharine Leasure he married in 1830 are buried in The Buelah United Presbyterian Church on Pleasant Valley Road in Harrison City, Penn Township,Westmoreland County, PA . Their has to be a connection with the John M. Daugherty line see before Penn Township it was called Franklin Township, Westmoreland County,PA and Johns oldest son was My GG Greatfather William Leasure Daugherty born in 1831 he married Mary Margaret McWilliams and she was born in 1838 William died in Pitcairn PA Allegheny County in Feb 1917 and Mary Margaret McWilliams who died in 1916 and they are buried in The Irwin Union Cemetery in Irwin,PA and Daughertys Grove was on Rt 130 in LevelGreen, Westmoreland County,PA and going back in the McWilliams Family Line George McWilliams got the original land grant from William Penn and it is carved on sheepskin and that 300 acres is LevelGreen PA.Does anyone know who Johns brothers and sisters were and who his parents were I was told they had a farm in North Huntingdon Township,PA Westmoreland County and he would farm and than go across the river to Elizabeth and he built boats and ships but I am trying to find out how much truth their is to this because I would love to know.
If you put in Catherine Leasure and use the pedigree view you can see what I have found. The Leasures all seemed related to Bowsers and Hooks by marriage.
I also have a few books that are helpful as well. One was published in 1914 dealing with Armstrong county. I do not know if anything I have will help but I hope it does. please let me know. I know little of him. I know that he had at least two sons Will Leasure and Harry Greenberry Leasure. My dad was Lloyd George Leasure son of Harry Greenberry Leasure. Lloyd George Leasure was born near Providence/Judsonia, Arkansas in White County Arkansas.

seems pretty likely that he may have, considering how many leasures are from that area. i have a copy of his will dated august 23, 1823. in it, he refers to his wife as "molly," however, in the next document from about 1855, she is referred to as mary.

in the will, it says that abraham's wife is to inherit the whole estate, and when she dies or remarries, it is to be divided among the three youngest sons. The second document is from the court proceedings when my great great great grandpa had the farm ceded to him (being the last surviving of the three youngest sons). The same document mentions letters issued to mary/molly dated September6, 1823 as executrix of abraham's estate, which narrows it down quite a bit.

most of the abraham's i receive hints about, or see in searches on here died in PA as well, often westmoreland county. i doubt that my Abe would have went on back home with such a large family here in ohio, but i suppose it is possible.

I haven't found a birthdate yet that i know of, but his death was between 8/23/1823 and 9/6/1823.

from the transcript of the will, i feel pretty confident about all of his children's names, and from the next court document, i can piece together all of the daughters' married names. i also have his son george's will, but haven't read through it yet for names. everything is pretty solid in the generations AFTER abraham, but i can't connect him to any others that i have seen on here.

Hi, not much more info from this point on. My Abraham's last name is spelled "Lozer" in the 1820 census, and I am pretty sure he died before 1830, 0r at least 1840 for sure. According to the 1850 census, if memory serves, his widow's name was Mary, who was living with she and Abe's son George (My great-great-great grandpa) whose name is listed as Lasure. I can possibly scrape together more information on George's siblings tomorrow at Christmas dinner if it'd get anywhere.

I wonder when the first Abraham left France, exactly? There are a ton of them out there, maybe he was my Abraham's grandpa.

Julie, I am posting my reply to you so that others might see it and hopefully we can make a connection. I have not been able to find the name of Gazaway's wife, either. In fact, I was hoping to find his will or probate record, but no luck yet. I wrote to both Fayette Co PA (where his family lived for a while) and Fayette Co OH, where Gazaway is buried--supposedly he died there while visiting his son
John. Neither county had a will or probate info on file for Gazaway Leasure. Do you know where Denton Leasure died and is buried? Have not found his cemetery record so far. I am hoping to confirm that my ancestor Ephraim is brother of Denton. Ephraim was born about 1813 in MD. In the 1850 census for Logan Co OH, he was living in the household of Margaret Ann Hamilton, also born in MD as were all the older siblings in Gazaway Leasure's family. Denton was born in PA after they left MD.
Any info on the family of Denton or Gazaway appreciated. Would love any obituaries, photos, etc. What I have is pretty sketchy. I think the Leasure family got pretty spread out and lost touch with each other.
Thanks for your help. My line is through Eva Crouch, daughter of my 2gr-grandparents: John Perry Crouch and Margaret A. Leasure. Margaret is d/o Ephraim Leasure and Eliza Jane Young (Denton Leasure's first wife Margaret A. Young was a sister of Eliza. The Young sisters were born in Beaver Co PA and moved with their parents, Samuel R. Young and Ann (Wylie) Young to Logan Co OH, where the Youngs met the Leasures. Ephraim and Eliza lived near Denton and
Margaret in Kane Co IL in the 1850s. The two families were next door to each other on the 1860 census in Washington Co IA, but by then Ephraim was not shown. Did he die prior to 1860? Were they divorced? I can send you copies of the census records if you do not have them.
Thanks so much for any help.
Leslie Lewis Lewisparr@olympus.net
I am still seeking info on Ephraim Leasure, who is POSSIBLY a son of Gazaway Leasure... no proof yet. Ephraim was born ca. 1813 in MD, lived in Logan Co OH by 1850, where he married Eliza Jane Young in October of 1850. They moved to Kane Co, IL, where they had four children. No sign of Ephraim by 1860 when Eliza and the four kids were living in Washington Co IA next door to her sister and family (sister Margaret was married to Denton Leasure, who MAY have been a brother of my Ephraim). Would appreciate any help.
Leslie Lewis, Lewisparr@olympus.net

Hi, by word of mouth our family goes back as far as 1669 when they left France because of religious persecution. In my line the name, Lasure is the way we spell it now, started as Le Sueur. There are 17 different ways it is spelled in my line alone. Thelma Marshall's book is very interesting but there are a lot of inaccuracies. Patty Smith is writing a new book and would welcome any and all correct information. She posts regularly so just look her up and she will get back to you. My line goes back through William and Joseph alternating back to Abraham. Our family branch settled in East Tennessee. I don't have a lot of inforamtion but I'm willing to share what I have. Good Luck in your search. Pam
