Hi there!
Glad to see someone else in the family is trying to break down the "brick wall" and get beyond the Atlantic to "Irish John's" origins. Let me know if you find anything, and I'll do the same!
Kris (Jerry's wife)

Still looking for information about my Grandfather, Harry Calbert Leedom, went by Cal. According to the 1920 census he was born in Montana, according to his military records he was born in Dickson, South Dakota and what he told his family was that he was born in Dickinson, North Dakota. He lived in St. Paul, Minnesota from the time he was about 16, he was alone. I have a postcard his mother wrote to him in 1920 that was from Buffalo, New York. I have some pictures when she was in Minnesota for Cal's funeral in 1926 on which my Grandmother wrote Grandma Burke. Did she remarry? Anyone out there have any ideas about who this famuly is?
Thanks Pam

I am a relative of the Pierce family and the Leedom family through the marriage of Layton "Jack" and Vera. I am trying to locate and get in touch with family members of these two in order to share my Pierce family tree with you and also to bring Jack & Vera's line to present day in my records. I hope to hear from someone out there!

Vera was my grandfather's aunt, and her son Dean was his cousin. I have an old photo from the late 1950;s of Vera,Jack, Dean and "Dean's wife" - it belonged to my grandparents from a visit they made out to the family.

Nothing further about Norris is listed in the book and I can not find much on the internet but I did find this reference: Norris Leedom 104 G Private Discharged on Surgeon's certificate on April 9, 1862. It is likely to be your Norris and thus his Civil War records might have some clues about him especially if his widow applied for a pension.I also tried to find him in 1870 with William but without success.

Leedom/Burke in Buffalo New York.

I am looking for my great Grandmother's family. Her name was Leedom, sorry, I don't have a first name, when my grandfather was born,1896, and Burke when he died in June of 1926, her husband was Gro. Geo. Burke according to the information from the Mortuary. I believe my grandfather was born in North or South Dakota, later moving to St. Paul, Minnesota. The St. Paul, MN paper said that she traveled from Buffalo, New York to attend her son's funeral. My Grandfather was Harry Calber Leedom and he was a St. Paul Policeman.

Still looking for my grandfathers family. I don't have much to go on, but here is what I do know.

Calbert Harry Leedom or Harry Calbert was born Oct 2, 1896 in Dickinson, North Dakota. Have not been able to find a birth certificate for him. His mother was maybe born in Montana and his father in North Dakota. In the funeral home records of his death his mother is listed as Mrs Geo Burke. I also found a picture in my grandmothers collection that says Grandma Burke on it. I also found a postcard from her postmarked Buffalo, New York. My grandfather died June 20, 1926, he was a St. Paul, Minnesota policeman. My dad was only 5 at the time of his death.

Not much info to go by, but if anyone has any info please let me know.

A world of Leedom History needs help.....

I just recently spent a day in Bentonville, Ohio....and have mixed emotions over what I found...I went to the Old Church and to the cemetary where 33 Leedom's are buried.. As we pulled up to the cemetary on the side of a highway, we could see a large stack of headstones, one on top of the other...frozen together.... Apparently over the years, they have had vandelism and just no one to care about the conditions of this very small and historical ground....There were many Leedom headstones still standing, but covered with lichen so as not to be able to read them and then many just worn with age.

The past of the church does not live in the town, which is just a blurp in the road..2 businesss and homes, 2 churches and the hwy in between... We then thought we would go to West Union, 5 miles away to the Library and court house.... As we turned to to go to the library, we happened to see Heritage Hall and found a wonderful place filled with geneology of Adams County...It was not a work day, but we were let in and spent hours with the ladies working there..Leedoms and Edgington history and so much of it...I was able to purchase a copy of the History of Adams County which had been out of print and just recently reprinted..250 copies...200 were sold by the time the book was reprinted and I was able to buy one of the last four..I was so thrilled to find all of this... But, I wondered if anybody was interested in a gathering and a day to clean the headstones so that we can get pictures of them and to work with the Historical Society there which I understand is very active..... We could meet and compare notes and information....I live in Missouri, is there anyone out there still in Ohio...
Bentonville is about an hour and a half east of Cincinnati, just across the river from Kentucky....It truly was a wonderful day and I do intend to go back....

In the little museum, there is a very old bible given to the association by the Edgeington family...lots of their info also.

Hi all, I think I could find one new message in 2004 and now coming to 2005. Only 147 messages all together. Wow, you all must have everything you needed to find. Tell me how you do it. I am still searching for my Leedom's. Are they so difficult that no one bothers or do you have all of your questions answered. Wish I could say I did....I have two Leedom's, Ora and Wife Emma....dropped off the earth in St. Louis....he died between 1925-30 ( no information except that she was listed as a widow....then she dropped out of sight....nothing. Don't know where they married, don't know where they died or were buried, His parents are buried in Ottumwa, lots of brothers and sisters.....they got lost too. my, oh my, they must be Irish Leedom's.....and on top of that the LEEDOM book is not correct.....so don't anyone use it as gospel.... only one child of William Asa and Catherine are listed, about six missing.

Is anyone related to John Meek Leedom, this would be an uncle, at least the book says it is?

I just found this board and would like to "catch up" with any and all researching the Leedom or Potts Families. I have a genealogy of the John Leedom and Elizabeth Potts family. I don't have a date for them but some grandchildren of their's died in the mid to late 1800s. They were my 3Xs great grandparents from the Bucks County, PA area. Anyone have any info that perhaps we can "connect the dots" of our ancestors?

Several years ago, a distant relative sent us photographs of some of the Leedom and Edgington headstones in the cemetery in Bentonville. I did not, however, realize that the cemetery had fallen into disrepair. Your request for help was very moving. Although we live in Virginia, we might be able to get to Adams County next summer for a workday. As a teacher, my days are "numbered" as it's almost time to head back to school--getting to southern Ohio would be out of the question right now. I would also love to go to the Historical Society there--sounds like you had great success.
