Josephine Leinster daughter of Thomas Leinster and Eliza Burns

Josephine was born in 1887 and died in 1956 in Ireland. We don't have any information on her parents and were curious if anyone has searched for them. Josephine was married to a Samuel Keatings, David Mcilwaine, and lastly to a William Stewart.

Looking for information on Sarah Kathryn Helms Leinster, born 5 February 1911 Oklahoma, died 14 June 1989 Los Angeles, California.

Believe her father to be John Helms; her mother, Laura Wilson.

Would like to confirm her parents, siblings and husband Leinster.

Will greatly appreciate an obituary and cemetery location as well.

Hi - I was very interested to read your Leinster history, I too am researching (OR trying to at least!) my ancestry. It is difficult as my father died when I was quite small in 1964 and his father the year before that. What also makes my search harder is that documents sometimes misspell my surname and miss the 'e' out.

I eventually tracked down my great grandfather James L(e)inster in the 1911 census he too was from Cavan and is listed as a police pensioner. James was married to Elizabeth and they had four sons listed George, aged 25, Thomas, my grandfather, 18, James aged 15 and Charles aged 23. At the time of the census they were all living in Liverpool. I believe one brother emigrated to Canada, my grandfather moved to Hastings and up till the late 1960's George was living in Liverpool still with a wife Rose and children Eileen, Fred and Brian. I have a card sent to my Aunt, his niece. Now I have found this section I will watch with interest - good luck in your search.

My brother moved down to Kent in the 60s, sadly he died a long time ago.His family all live down there...2daughters and 3 sons, to keep the family name going.

well theres quite a few in glasgow. my grandparents had 6 kids, who all have 2 kids each. i'm the oldest grandchild and im 22. a few have moved back to ireland and i have some relatives in canada aswell...

Hi Euan. I'm in my 70s now.Joseph came from Co.Cavan. He was second youngest of 8 children. Nice to meet other Leinsters. Most of them are in America. I think due to five of them going there.

No. Did your family come from Ireland.My Grandfather came over about 1907. He was a policeman in Glasgow. Married my Grandmother 1909.

Elizabeth Leinster was married to my Grandfathers brother William. He and Lizzie hea two sons .. George and Joseph. They were taken home to Co.Cavan, Ireland,I have met both grandsons,one in Ireland and one in Florida.I would be greatful if you have any more infirmation on any of the other brothers. Maggie who went over first married a Joseph Foulks. They worked at the Lahar hotel in tippercanno Ind.

I live in New York. I'm not a Lynster, but the Lynster's married into my line several generations ago. I've introduced my cousins to several of their Lynster kin that they didn't know. I've done some research on the Lynster's for them.

All my Leinsters were born in Gallloncurra, Co. Cavan.Ireland
Parents were James and Jane Longheed(small farmers)m.14.2.1872.
William b. 12.7.1874. His wife Elizabeth maiden name was Cochrane.
Robert b. 25.4.1876.
James George b.1.3.1878.
Sarah b.23.12.1880.
Thomas b.26.6.1883.
Joseph b.12.5.1885. d. 27.2.1934 - my grandfather.
Martha 12.5.1888.

There are Leinster and Lynster's in the tree, but they are all from Ireland. Many of the names that you mentioned are also the same. You did not mention a year though.

I have been doing research of my family name Lienster for some years. My Grandfathers brothers and a sister all went to America.William Leinster parted from his wife. Her name was Lizzie, she had a "rooming-house.I think it was Brooklyn.Williams sister Maggie married Joseph Foulks.Other brothers were Thomas,Robert and James George.Could this be the same Leinsters. (The Irish was in spelling is Lynster). My grandfather Joseph, came to Scotland. Mags.

every one of my husbands family through out the last 100 years is a james leinster including our son james joseph the name is very prominent in county cavan and the family related to my husband still live there

I know my Linsters are Irish or Scots/Irish, and I believe I'll connect to John Cates Moses, but so far I haven't. The farthsest back I can document is a WIlliam Linster in Carter County, TN in 1830-1840 census. He lists himself as being born in North Carolina, which is where John Cates Linsters are. Williams son Andrew is my GG Grandfather and as far as I can tell, mine stayed in Tennessee after William moved there. I don't get to a computer often, but here is my address if you ever find anything on Tennessee linsters or one other than Moses from Ireland. Thanks.

Thank you for replying to my posting. I have been in touch with John Cates, but he has only been able to trace his line to Moses in County Cavan - I have no Moses so far in my line, and I have no way to connect without more Ireland information. The search goes on!!!

I think you may want to contact John Cates in Statesville, North Carolina. He has traced his ancestor back to the moses you listed being born in 1740. I am connected also wth this line, but haven't found the definite proof yet as John has. He can help you. Get on the message board for "Linster" and you'll find his posting and email.This Moses ended up in Rowan co. NC and had many children. John descends from moses son Humphrey, and I believe I descend from the son William. My Linsters ended up in Tennessee whre most of Johns stayed in North Carolina. This is a hard family to trace. My last name is Lynster and my Great Grandfather was also James but my Great Grandmother's name was Anne and they also lived in Brookllyn around 1870's.

Hi, I to am researching Leinster surname.I have found some descendants of James Leinster and Jane Longheed m. 14.2.1872. I know there were five brothers who all left Ireland. My Grandfather Joseph came to Scotland. William went to the U.S.A. I believe Thomas did to.Which leaves Robert and James. It is believed one went to England, Any connection !!

Don't know if you're still out there, but I just came across a James Leinster that may be connected to my Drury line. It looks like he married Mary Anne Drury on Dec. 24, 1845, Bailieborough, Cavan, Ireland. Is this the right time frame for you?

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I'm in law school in South Carolina, and my time has been really crunched. In regrad to your posting, I don't know if the Lynster surname is related to the Leinster surname. I have records of the Leinster name (with the "ei" spelling) from the early 1900's in Statesville, North Carolina. The details are few, but my great grandfather, Esten Bethune Leinster, married Ola Alice Benton. Ola's father was William Osborne Benton. Do any of these names look familiar? Do you know what country your family came from? I believe that Leinster is of Irish origin, but I'm still trying to nail that down. I hope this information helps. I've just begun to research my family. They came to the U.S. sometime around the turn of the century. Name here Lynster. They lived in Brooklyn. I think my great-grandfather was James and my great-grandmother was Katherine. We cannot find many records. I'm still looking. Please reply back.

The furthest I've been able to trace is to my great-grandfather on the Leinster side,Esten Bethune Leinster born in 1882, and his father-in-law, William Osborne Benton. I'm seeking information about my maternal grandmother. I've been told that her full maiden name was Lavinia Sarah Leinster, and that she emigrated to Canada from Ireland in 1912, when she was of marriageable age. Other than that, I have no information, and have been unable to locate any links in Ireland.
