Hi Roger, I'm new to all this and am researching my family tree of which my Nana was a Leivers, she was born in Arnold, Notts in 1903 to Thomas and Betsy Leivers. I know she was one of 10 children and her brother Thomas H was a councillor in Nottingham. I know your post is a couple of years old but I hope you can help, maybe we're related! I'd like to learn more about the Leivers of Arnold. Kind regards, Shirley.

I'm trying to verify whether my husband's LEEVERS family were related to the LEIVERS family of The Haggs Farm in Moor Green. If anyone has families with any variants in this area, then I'd love to hear from you to compare notes.

I've made a couple of leaps of faith recently, so need some reigning in.

I also run a research for LEEVERS (and all variants) with at least one British or Irish member. Do ask if you're interested for the link.

Be great to hear from anyone,
Jack
Mrs Jackie LEEVERS nee SAVAGE
jack@leevers.f2s.com

Moses Leivers married Sarah Smith from Kimberley in 1896 but then they both have disappeared.Sarah is the daughter of Charles Smith 1829 who married Eliza Saxton in 1854.Charles is the son of Samuel Smith 1802,who in turn is the son of Samuel Smith 1771 or 1772,my gggg grandfather. They all came from the Greasley area.I have managed to go one generation back to george Smith born about 1744/5 who married Mary Alcock but thats where I have become stuck. So we are loosley connected by marriage.Have you been able to trace Moses any further?

HI BRIAN,
I AM CURRENTLY WRITING A BOOK ON MY lEIVERS ANCESTORS WHO CAME FROM ARNOLD, AND PRIOR TO THAT FROM GREASLEY. I currently have ancestors going back to 1599, still living in Greasley. I believe the name comes from Le Leivre and is possibly a Huguenot name (from Flanders) and we may have come over in the mid 1500's to escape persecution. No Jewish connection to my knowledge, we were probably Calvinist Protestants.
Not sure about the crusade link, I think records do not go back that far?, at least I've never found any.
The high up Council officer was Thomas Hilton Leivers, I've researched his side of the family in depth. He was known as 'Mr Arnold' and was awarded an MBE by Harold Wilsons government.
Anyway if you have questions just email me
Best Wishes
Roger LEIVERS
My great grandad was called Benjamin Granger Leivers, his mother was Mary A Leivers and father was Joseph. He had a sister Mary A (b.1869 Greasley) who emigrated to New Zealand, and brothers James (b.1870), John Henry (b.1872), Martha (1875) Joseph (1876) and Thomas (1880).
This info is from the 1881 British Census available on the www.familysearch.org website run by the mormons. They have extensive family trees of the Leivers from this area.
However, the only place that I can find Joseph and Mary Ann is in the '81 census. My father knows that the Mary A daughter emigrated to NZ and had 3 sons (Joseph, Herbert and another) and a daughter (don't know name). They lived on the south island in NZ.

Hello Lynn Hague. My name is Beverley Hague Mckinnon and I am looking for my grandfather's living relatives. He was born in St. Peter/ Preston Lancs. in 1891 and emigrated to Canada in 1922. He had 2 young cousins or nieces named Florrie and Lily Hague. Lily married but I don't know her married name. Florrie lived I believe for some time at 82 Fir Trees Ave. Ribbleton/Preston. I am having a very difficult time finding names to connect with. There are only 92 Hagues in the UK phone book! Any help from you would be so appreciated. Thank you

LEIVERS - Kimberley, NTT, ENG

I can trace my ancestry back reasonably confidently to a John Leivers, who in the 1861 census was 29 and living in Kimberley, Nottinghamshire.

There is some evidence that he was born in Cossall, and that his father was called Jesse. This isn't proven though.

There are more details of my family tree on my website http://www.preece.info. My current best guess at my Leivers ancestry is given on page
http://www.preece.info/wiki/vb3cfndzmuu9/descendant.cgi?desc...

Any contacts from people connected to this family are welcomed.

Andrew Preece

Andrew Preece

Hi

I also have Vincent Leivers in my tree. However I have him marring an Eliza Richards on 4 Nov 1851 in Alfreton. Witnesses were John Rolley and Harriet Hope. Vincent named his father as George Stockdale. Eliza's parents were Mathew and Hannah Richards (nee Kerry). Eliza had a illegitimate dau, Catherine in 1850. As Catherine lived with her grandparents, I took this as her NOT being Vincent's daughter. Vincent Levas! and Eliza Richards were witnesses at her brothers, John's marriage to Sarah Ann Saxton (this is my line). I have the census records for 1881 and 1901 for Vincent and Eliza were they lived in Hasland, Derbyshire.

Hi,

I am descended from a William (b1774) and Ann Leivers (b1778). Their children were born between 1808 and 1815. I'm not sure I have all of their children, as I only have 4. There is a good chance that Hannah was one of their children. If you give me her birthdate/christening date, I could look it up.

In my tree, I have a Joseph Leivers (b 1868) who married Mary Ann Clay (b 1869). They married 28 sept 1889 at Kimberley, about four miles from Underwood. I don't know where they were born.
I'm not a descendant of them, my Great Great Grandma was sister to Mary Ann.
I'm not sure whether this couple is related to your ancestors, as I haven't recorded any children for the couple.

Leivers name information

The name my father told me originated from Eastwood, Notts,England and the family were quite high up on the council at Arnold,Notts. There is a road named Leivers Avenue in Arnold. Also in Hucknall,Notts there is a Leivers's Hill. There are also approx 7 busines's with Leivers in the name in Hucknall.A realative traced his family tree back to the days of the crusades and said a Leivers was on a ship returning and was the only one who could read and write. There are if you look a lot of place names in Holland,Belguim and Germany starting with Lei.I have also often been asked if the name has jewish origins but do not know if it has.

Members of the Leivers Family might like to know that a street was named after Mr Daniel Leivers, headmaster of East Leake School some time ago (my great-great grandfather).

The new street (off main street, East Leake) was built in around 1995 and named "Leivers Close". Which always made me look twice when driving past an the way to school!

I know of a Samual Leivers born in 1890, son of Samual from Nottinghamshire. I could not see a middle name of Arthur though. If you could supply more details, then I may be able to help. Names of Brothers & Sisters, Mother, Occupation, Date of Death etc would help me help you.

Interested in tracing back the family name. My Grandfather Samual Arthur Leivers was from Nottingham as well I believe, although I know very little about where or when, would be the end of the 1800's. I think his father was called Samual or Arthur as well.
