Thanks for the responses in 2010 and now the one in 2011.
I do believe my George Leland was born in New Jersey 1769 and very likely raised in PA. He and his sons migrated onto Michigan as did some of his wifes siblings. George's son Samuel moved on to Wisconsin with his family and then to Iowa and finally Nebraska Custer County.
I have seen some of the Henry Leland descendants they were a large family in Connecticut...so far I haven't found a connection to my Leland. The one being born in Canada and having some Indian blood sounds interesting, Thanks again for the responses
Laurel

Hi Susan,

I would be happy to share the information with any Leland interested. We would just have to find a way to do it without damaging the book. I just looked at it (it was locked in a safe that is difficult to access yesterday when I posted) and there are a few corrections to my post. It was not written by Leland Bagley (but came from his estate). It was written my a Sherman Leland 20+ years before Leland Bagely was even born. It is titled "The Leland Magazine or A Geneological Record of Henry Leland and His Decendents" the title goes on further "Containing an Account of 9,624 Persons in 10 Generations Embracing Nearly Every Person of the Name Leland in America 1653-1850" I should think this is rather like the holy grail of Leland family research. It is thirteen chapters each appears to start with a Grandson of Henry Leland. 278 pages and 32 lithographs. It is remarkable collection of data when you consider the technology availabe when it was written and the fact that it must have cost a small fortune to compile and print this work. If you would like to help me research how to copy / reprint this feel free to email me fleland1@cox.net.

Hi Laurel

I came across you message by chance. My family came to California from Iowa, Haywarden. I have a rather detailed book written that traces the family back to England in the 1600's. I don't beleive this book was ever published. It was researched and written in the early 1900s by a retired lawyer (Leland Bagley) for personal use. If you have specific questions or want to compare notes send me an email. Best Regards Fred Leland

It was hard to understand her and I felt that she really didn't want to help. I clicked on contact on their site and was able to email a nice letter explaining my situation and gave information about me and the twins to check their records for any family and pass this letter on to them if they wish to contact me. Now it's a waiting game. After knowing who they are now, I didn't think it would be this tough to find somebody.
Funny guy...send the bus my way!

Anyway, when I saw the Moulton address I thought it might be a nursing home. Call them back and ask if they would forward a letter if you sent one. If they say "yes" that is a clue that he is still alive or they know relatives. I would play on the heart strimgs and tell them that you just found out that you had twin brothers...ask for the administrator name and speak to that person or the asst. Not all people are on the SSDI if the surving relatives failed to claim the death benefits.
Susan

Hi Susan, 67 is not that old because I'm 63, a caregiver and take care of people in their 90's. We have a lot of time left unless we get hit by a bus.:-) Moulton Pkwy is an Assisted Living Center in Laguna Hills and I called their number from the Internet but they have no Robinson's in that Facility right now. Another dead end but I'll keep on looking. I need to find any relative in the Robinson family who knows Ronald or Robert and can get them a message from me. These addresses could be from years ago and he could have moved in with one of the family members. I'll try to find where his adopted father and Lorene are buried and maybe come up with some cousins or other family members.
I'll keep in touch. Steve

Steve, I would guess that you should check with 411 for a current phone number. I have found that the number remains the same and the area code changes, so try the new area code and the phone number. the other thing is to put the address into the search bar and see what you come up with; and there is the reverse directory. I am not much for sending letters, I am to curious and I would be itching to know when I would hear from the person...but that's your call. I think that the Moulton address is probably the most current. I don't think your have too much time when you are dealing with a 70 yr old...and me being 67, whoa that's a close one! Let me know what happens...now that I am in this scenario!

Hi again Susan, I got on Intelius.com, paid the $1.95 "cheap" and got the information on 21 Ronald A Robinson's, two of which have the birth date of Aug. 11, 1939. I'm not to sure how to comprehend the addresses. There are two in Laguna Hills that mention Lorene at age 53 and one in Lake Forest that mention Lorene at age 96 and a William J Robinson at the age of 102 and other relatives. Both have Ronald at the age of 70 which he is now but Lorene died when she was 85 in 1999.
Here is what it looks like and I'm not to sure what the best thing is to do now. I'm asking your advice on should I send a letter to all addresses because the area code is incorrect in the phone number or try other searches.
Let me know what you think, Steve
DOB: Aug 11th, 1939

AGE: 70 years old

RELATIVES:
B J Robinson (30)
D D Robinson (53)
Dorothy B Robinson (53)
Jeannie L Robinson (53)
Lorene E Robinson (53)
Poa Jeannie Robinson (53)
William J Robinson (30)

Address 1:
26862 Oak Hollow Rd
Laguna Hills, CA 92653

Address 2:
24903 Moulton Pkwy
Laguna Hills, CA 92653
(972) 972-1842
DOB: Aug 11th, 1939

AGE: 70 years old

RELATIVES:
Lawrence L Robinson (81)
Lorene E Robinson (96)
Mandy Paige Robinson (35)
Nadine M Robinson (84)
William J Robinson (102)

Address 1:
22041 Lakeland Ave
Lake Forest, CA 92630
Hi Susan, All this digging really paid off. I so much appreciate all of your help and you came up with a lot of extra information that I didn't have but will come in handy when I try to find them. Did you happen to notice if the twins birthdays were August 11, 1939 in the Calif. Birth Index? With their mothers maiden name showing Leland I'm 100% sure this is them. Lorene E. Robinson came up in the SSDI in Orange Co. Calif. as born Jan 6, 1914 and died March 13, 1999. I'll check with the Riverside National Cem. to see if there are any living relatives and also try to find where she is buried. If the Calif. White Pages show nothing then I'll try People Search. I have never tried Intellius or know what they do. Now that I have all this information it's time to see if I can find them. I hope they still all live in Calif. because that would make it so much easier to search. All I need is a phone number or address and see what happens when I contact either one of them. I'll let you know how it goes and thanks again for all your help. Steve

I came up with the following:
Lorene Edna had brothers and 1 sister. In 1930 they were living at 613 W 85th St, Los Angeles. Raymer or Ramer Robert Leland was 9, born 23 July 1915, Enlisted in WW231 Aug 1942, Died 22 Oct 1980, buried Riverside National Cem. Sec 8 Site 859.
Marion R was 4 and Harry K was 3. I can't seem to find anything for the last 2.
There is a Ronald A Robinson born "abt" 1939 married 22 Dec 1967 to Brunhild Patzold.
If you can't locate family you may have to pay for a search through Intellius or People Search. I would try to lacate a member of Raymer's family if you can and see if they know anything about their cousins.
Susan

Would you be able to check for me the date Aug 11, 1939 and Leland for the maiden name and see what comes up. There is nothing in the SSDI or CDI, for these names. Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve,The one thing the mom might not have changed is the twins first and middle names. Try doing a search using the known information, the 2 names with out the last name and their birth date and place of birth. If the mom legally changed their names she would have had to change it with the consent of the legal father. Also try the social security death index. I like the SSDI on rootsweb.com better than ancestry's. If you haven't done so try doing a search on familysearch.com. Also check the military records on sncetry.
Susan

Hi Susan, I have yet to find my twin brothers but I now know their names and when they were born because I have just received my father's military records. Their names are Robert Allen Basey and Ronald Anthony Basey and they were born on August 11, 1939. That would make them 70 years old now so they could still be alive. If their mother, Lorene Edna Leland Basey, remarried, they may have had their last names changed by adoption of her husband which is what happened to me and that would make them very hard to find. If you happen to come across any of this information in your searches, I would love to hear from you. Steve

Your are welcome. There were other Basys but I picked out the ones I thought would be more relevant for CA. If I were you I would also check white pages for Basey's in Marin Cnty, CA as well as Marin. I could not find any direct relationship to Lorene and Elemer. But that could be because I didn't check any othre states to any degree. CA has a marriage and birth index. I din't find a divorce in the records that are currently online.
Susan

Thank you so much for using your time to send me this information. There were four Basey's that I knew nothing about and that was a big help. Loren M. Leland was Lorene's father and he died 4 months before her death also in Santa Cruz. I think they have the birth date and place of birth wrong according to the 1930 census. It should be 1914 Iowa. I sent for marriage and birth certificates of what information that I now have and will let you know if anything comes about.

Very possibly a relative, but I do not believe he is a son of Charles Leland. There is a Sherborn connection though, as the marriage of Burton Leland and Mildred Baker is recorded both in Sherborn and in North Brookfield.

Where did you get birth and death dates of Charles M Leland?

I found a death record for a Charles M Leland in 1905 parents were not listed, but a daughter was the informant and there was an age. Could not find record of birth on initial search.

Seeking contact with descendants of Burton Leland b. abt 1899 and Mildred Baker born 27 May 1898. Interested in sharing information about Mildred's family and learning about her children and other descendants. I also have questions regarding the families of Mildred's siblings and half siblings.

I have ten years research on Mildred's mother's (Smith)family to share. I have access to Ancestry and NEHGS and do not need census or vital record information except for marriage date of Mildred and Burton probably abt 1920 in Worcester.

Thank you for your assistance.
Dear Mr. Lambert:
What is your first name? The only resource I know about which may have what you need is The Leland Magazine which was a one-time published work about the immigrants and their different branches here in the states. I would encourage you to look it up. Other than that, I will do what I can to help you research and ask around. My e-mail is spiritwordmin@yahoo.com. Please feel free to write me directly. Send me your e-mail and I will send you all I have on the Lelands.

Sincerely yours,

Dave Harrison
