I am also researching the LeMaster line. My great grandfather Francis M Lemaster married my great grandmother Minerva Jane Wilson Sept 11, 1884 in Rock Port, Atchison County, Missouri. They moved to Elm Creek, Buffalo, Nebraska and in the 1885 Nebraska census, Francis gives his age as 28 (b: abt 1857) and that he was born in Pennsylvania. His parents were born in Kentucky. I found no record of a Francis Lemaster in PA. Francis disappeared around Oct 1886 and left no forwarding address. He does not appear in the LeMasters-USA records. I have gone thru the records person-by-person. Francis used the name 'Frank' on one record. He is not the "Big Frank nor the "Little Frank" in USA records.

I have had my DNA Tested and it shows that I probably descend from one of Abrahams sons. Francis does not show up in any records that I have searched. Anyone out there with a spare Francis?

Doing Genealogy: Update of Lemasters, USA 1639-1965 and Abraham Lemaster of Charles Co. MD, and his Descendants. Both of these books are out of print. So anyone who has a copy that they are willing to sell please let me know. If anyone knows if these books have been digitized please let me know. I would even appreciate the ibn numbers for each book.

My interest is personal since I am a descendant of Mary Elizabeth "Polly" Lemaster.

He was buried in the Potter's Field section of the city cemetery, along with 225 others, but many were said to have been exhumed later and re-buried by relatives in family burial grounds in the hometowns.

Does any have any information on his family, hometown or final resting place?
Hi,

I'm seeking death date and place of death for Roland E. Lemaster, born about 1899, Kentucky (possibly Newport) and his wife Vena Uhrig-Lemaster born 1904 Columbus, Ohio. Vena was my grandmother's (Irene Annabell Uhrig) sister.

Roland's parents were Jacob Lemaster, born March 3, 1865 West Virginia, died Oct. 11, 1945 Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kate Jennie Howell born 1863 Ashland, Kentucky, died Jan 8, 1940 Newport, Kentucky.

Vena's parents were George Uhrig born about 1872, Kentucky and Anna Caroline Knox born about 1881, Ross County, Ohio.

Roland and Vena's children are:

Jeanette, b. Feb. 1, 1924, Kentucky
Pearl L., b. Oct. 30, 1926, Kentucky
Rolanda, b. March, 1930, Kentucky
Roland J. born 1931 Kentucky, died Cincinnati, Ohio, 1932.

Vena had another child Jacob R. Uhrig b. Sept 4, 1921 Newport, and died Sept 5, 1921 Newport, Kentucky.

I have also seen the Lemaster name spelled as Le Master, Lamaster, Lohmaster. Roland was the informant on his father's death record and while he spelled his father's name as Lemaster, Roland spelled his last name as Le Master.

If anyone recognizes these names and would be willing to share info, I'd really appreciate it.

You may e-mail me directly at mmim717474@aol.com if you have info to share.

Thank you.

Mary

Looking for any stories or photo's regarding John Milton LeMaster 1858 - 1892. He is my great grandfather. John Milton married Mary Elizabeth McKenzie (Lizzie). They had one child Francis Milton LeMaster who always went by Milt LeMaster (my grandfather). They resided at the old homestead on Tiny Branch, Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky. Francis Milton LeMaster their son married Stella Josephine Trimble and had one child Robert Milton Lemaster (my father). John Milton LeMaster died when my grandfather Milt was one year old. Interested in how John Milton died or "any" information regarding his life.

I can tell you there is a William Lemaster who lived in Aurora, Mo. around this time. He was married to Molinda. You can see the gravestone on Find-a-grave.com. I believe they only had daughters but I also read somewhere that this was William's second marriage so the first may lead you somewhere. If you find more info I'd be interested.

I still like the good old mail. I would love to have what info and pictures you have on the family. I didn't have any further info about Thomas's family, only on his sister Sarah Jane Barker Lemasters children. I show she married John J. Lemaster on 14 July 1866. I only show they moved to Texas or Okla (in Indian territory). After he moved to the west I have no further info. Nothing on his marriage or children. It thrilled me to no ends to see your posting. I'll follow the link you posted. Maybe I could send you a copy of the few papers I have. I have thought about posting each family seperatly and seeing if I could get more info - I may just do that.

The info I have came from my Aunt Mae Lemaster. She and Rudy Lemaster helped gather info for the book Lemaster USA 1639-1965.

Some of the copies of pages came from the following:

1.) Gary Hay, Plain City Ohio, grandson of Mary Ann Barker and John Henry Hay.

2.) Betty Daniel, Columbus Ohio, granddaughter of John Calhoun Breckinridge Barker and Rachel Aladair Sparks.
Note: there were 2 John Calhoun Breckinridge Barkers.
The other was the son Peter M. Barker (brother to Thomas J Barker.

3.) Don E. Lemaster, Portsmouth, Ohio, grandson on George Oscar Lemaster and Rosa B. Lemaster

4.) Rudy C. Lemaster, Columbus Ohio, grandson of William Henry Lemaster and Nora Alice Williams

Thanks, :)

linka_49@yahoo.com

Linda Banks
5404 Henry Town Rd.
Sevierville, TN 37876

Thanks for your response. As I mentioned, you can see Thomas Barker's own description of his life if you follow the link I sent. The only discrepancy is that we were always told he had married and his young wife Nellie died of consumption about a year after they married. We were also told that he attended college for a time across the state line in Ohio before moving to Oklahoma. One things he did not mention is that he was a folk-singer and story teller of some reputation-- must have known hundreds of the old Kentucky based folk songs.

I have a good bit of anecdotal info on the LeMaster women of Marietta's generation, since I knew all of them personally (they were my great-aunts). It's the men I'd like more information about. I'm glad to know the family must have moved to OK and TX sometime about 1876.

Perhaps we can work out a way I can send you copies of the two photographs I have.

Regards.

Mr. Stephens, The only info I show on Thomas J. Barker is that he was born 10 August 1853 and later settled in Texas/Okla. I have yet to tie my Western Lemaster people to my Eastern Lemasters. I did find some cousins in Texas.

I would love to update what info I have and see some photos of the whole clan - that would be great. I show one Minti Alice b. 23 Jan 1877 to Sarah Jane Barker and John J. Lemaster (Sarah was a sister to Thomas J.). She was the first child born in Okla. Indian Territory. She had sibblings: Eliphas Washington b. 11 May 1867, Marietta Angeline b. 30 Oct 1868, Joseph Edward b. 30 June 1870, Adelia Rose b. 16 Jan 1872, William Thomas b. 24 Jan 1874, Alonza A. b. 05 Oct. 1879, Tina LeNora Belle b. 17 Feb. 1883, Fannie Maye b. 09 Jan 1886. I have no death dates on anyone but the parents. All the children born from 1867 to 1874 were born in Flat Gap, Johnson Co Ky. But all the children from Minti to Fannie were born in Okla.

Sarah Jane Barker b. 25 May 1842 Morgan Co Ky. d. 16 July 1891 (parents William Barker and Elizabeth Mumbower) m. 14 July 1866 to John J. Lemaster b. 26 Feb 1843 d. 28 April 1886 in Okla. He was a Confederate Soldier, PVT 5th Ky Reg.
Someone corrected me on his death date as being 24th of April instead of the 28th.

Thanks so much for your reply. It's great to find family no matter how far away and distant in kin - it's still family to me.

This is re: Thomas J. Barker mentioned in your Lemaster/Barker message a few months back. His own account is seen at rootsweb.com~okmurray/ipp/barkertj.htm--He was an uncle of my grandmother Marietta LeMaster Stephens (Mrs. John Spead Stephens) , and lived with that family for 47 years until he died at the age of 94. His mother was Elizabeth Mumbower, born in VA, if I'm right.

I'd be interested in any info you might have on any of the Oklahoma Lemasters families. Actually I have quite a bit of info on Aunt Mintie, Uncle Lon, Aunt Belle, and Aunt Fanny, and knew them all, but nothing on Uncle Doc (Eliphas), Uncle Joseph, or Aunt Rose. I do have a very nice photograph of the whole LeMaster clan and another photo of the same folks with their spouses and children--probably from about 1905 or along in there.

Regards.

Wyatt Stephens
They moved to southern California on or about 1903, settling in Signal Hill. Jessie was instrumental in the move to incorporate Signal Hill which was successful. She was elected to the first board of trustees (city council) and served as President (mayor) of the BOT from 1924-1925. Following ZT's death in 1922, Jessie wed Roy Nelson.

I have made great progress in my search from my DNA testing through Ancestry.com. My DNA results are an exact match with Joseph Lemaster (c1693..), the son of Richard Lemaster, the son of Abraham Lemaster. So I know that I descend from one of the sons of Richard Lemaster. Only time will tell which one. I was told that I must now wait for DNA testing from living Lemasters to establish their genetic branches to help determine which line I descend from. After 30 years of searching, I now know that I descend from Abraham, so that is a huge plus. If anyone has a clue as to where I go from here, I would appreciate your comments.

Lemaster/Mumbower

Mumbower/Barker/Lemaster

I have seen many request for information on Mumbower. My only connection with Mumbower is through my Lemaster ties. My Elizabeth Mumbower b. 28 Sept 1811 d. 25 Feb 1885 and buried at Crockett, Morgan Co. Ky in the Fannin Cem. I do not have any info on her mother and father but I would like to. She married William Barker on 14 Nov 1830 in Morgan Co Ky. I show him b. 14 Jan 1809 d. 08 Nov 1861 I show he died in the Civil War at the Battle of Ivy's Mountain north of Prestonsburg, Floyd Co Ky. There is a Ky Historical Marker alone U.S. 23 north of Prestonsburg. He was with the 5th Ky Inf. Co A. (as were many other men in the family) I do show his father as John Barker Sr. and his mother as Jane Porter. They had 9 children:

1. (Rev.) Henry Marker Barker m Angeline Gevedon,
2. John Calhoun Barker m Catherine K Lemaster,
3. Peter M Barker m Miram Fairchild,
4. Mary Frances Barker (my line) m Isaac Lemaster,
5. George W. Barker b. 29 Nov 1839 - moved to Missouri, was with 5th Ky Inf, Co. A., no further info on George W.
6. Sarah Jane Barker m John J. Lemaster,
7. William Lykins Barker m. Lou Ann Gevedon,
8. Verlina H Barker m James Lewis Lemaster,
9. Eve F. Barker b. 14 March 1849 that all for her, no further infomation on Eve.
10. Morgan G. Barker b. 02 July 1851 d. 16 Oct 1852 died when he was an infant
11. Thomas J. Barker b. 10 Aug 1853, settled in Texas/Okla
no further info on Thomas

My Aunt Mae (Murlie Mae Lemaster) helped update the last editon of the Lemasters, U.S.A., 1639-1965. She is only one of the many mentioned. The info for Barker/Mumbower came for the combination of different family bibles, ie; grandson of John Hay and Mary Ann Barker Hay and Greasy Lick Baptist Church. Grand daughter of John Calhoun Breckinridge Lemaster and Rachel Alatair Sparks. Grandson of George Oscar Lemaster and Rosa B. McKenzie. Gransson of William Henry (W.H.) Lemaster and Nora Alice Williams, this gentleman was also my mothers first cousin. The papers also show the birth, death and marriage dates and families and some other interesting information. Thanks, Linda
Abraham Lemaster bible/Newbold Cannon

Does anyone know why there would be a connection between these families?
There is a Bible that can be found through worldconnect,
in which Abraham Lemaster writes in 'his own hand' of his birthdate,
John Lemaster's death (1799), of 'Abraham and his wife,
Susuna, married 29, 1801,' and then there's a listing
of the birthdates of Newbold Cannon, Srs, children.

Any help?
pamelawest@bellsouth.net

Pam West
