Hello Elizabeth,

Interesting. I have not yet found any Lentons with Yorkshire links in my wife's family but it is possible.
Edward Lenton b1914 was of a line that appears to pass through Stanwick Nortamptonshire abt 1779. His ancestors were shoemakers in sucessive generations and this particular Lenton family probably moved from Northamptonshire to Leicester because of the industrialisation of the trade.

Thank you for your contribution, I hope the above is helpful to you.
Hi
The Lenton side of the family I am researching emigrated to Pennsylvania USA in the late 1890s. I understand there were brothers and sons in the Lenton dynasty but I think many of them were from Yorkshire. Your Edward Lenton must be from one branch of the family which didn't emigrate as early.

My great great grandfather was Lenton and he came from Halifax, Yorkshire UK and emigrated to the US (Philadelphia) in the around 1880. There are many more Lentons in Yorkshire, UK and in the US. My father was Richard Lenton Nash and his family live in New Jersey. So perhaps you are not quite the originator of the surname!

I am the originator of the surname Lenton, I was born and raised in Houston, Tx. I started this quest in searching for my heritage because of the rarity of the name Lenton. My father was Ellis Lenton born in 1915 / his father was Ellis Lenton that married a Emily Broussard. I never had the chance of meeting either of my dads parents nor is there much known about them. In researching my grandfather's death record it showed the spelling of Lanton. back in time there had been occasions where the names were spelled incorrectly due to lack of education.
So any one that comes across with any of the Lenton Heritage please share. God Bless all that have responded over the years. I actually had forgotten that I'd posted this message. Would love to hear from all email: terry_lenton@hchd.tmc.edu / june673005@att.net

Hi, Mum had a look and we found some of Alfred James Collis in an old bag and he stands with various people who we do not know, I wonder if any of them are the person you are looking for? Do you have any details of physical description as to what he looks like or if he was in the armed forces as some are in Australian military uniforms.

Cheers, Deena

Thank you for your link.

I have a tenuous link to the Collis family. I believe that my grandmother was engaged to Francis Joseph Collis when he went off to war (although this has never been confirmed). Her first cousin Euphemia Maud Ellis married Alfred James Collis. I have some letters from a Charles Collis too written to my grandmother during the war. These are quite interesting. I guess that our families were quite close at the time. Do you know if there are any photos of Francis Joseph Collis, I have always hoped to see one some day. Perhaps with your Collis connections you may be able to add to the story of the "engagement". my email is harriets.garden@bigpond.com if you would like to chat further. regards Maree

I am looking for information about parents of Rozetta Lenton who was born c.1820. Her marriage certificate shows no father's name so I may be on a hiding to nothing! But I have a clue "W.L. 1803" scratched onto a watchcase. Place names of relevance in what I know so far are Bourn(e), Edenham, Thurlby, and there is a Miss Beccles involved somewhere along the line though I've no idea who she is. She certainly had a relative living in Edenham in 1843 when her first child was born as she went "home" to have him. I have found a Jane Lenton in Edenham in 1841 but can't tell if there is any link.
Rozetta died sometime between the 1841 and 1851 censuses in England. If anyone has any information I'd be very pleased as I'm drawing a blank - millions of Lentons!

Joseph Lenton

I am after information on the parents/family of Joseph Lenton, born circa 1810 in Coventry, Warwickshire. He arrived in NSW circa 1826 and died in 1866. He was a Miller in England and a wheat farmer in Narellan NSW. He married Mary Frost (4-10-1821) on 05-02-1838. I have information on descendants in NSW but I am lacking detail on Joseph's family history in Coventry. There were a few Lentons around in Coventry in the 18th century and Coventry Suitor records from 1826 indicate a James, Thomas and William. Voter records from the same period indicate a George and a Thomas Lenton. However, I am not sure who Joseph Lenton might be related to, if any of the above. Any information or leads would be appreciated. Thanks.

james lenton

I wonder if anyone can give me any information on the following family. My Great (x3) Grandfather is James Lenton born around 1801 in Exhall according to the 1851 census. He married a Mary Martin in 1828 Exhall.

According to the 1851 Census the children are born in Exhall, and the family is living at Black Bank, Exhall, Foleshill, but on the 1841 census they are born in bedworth and are living in Leicester Street, Foleshill in the area of bedworth.

The children are william born around 1832/1834
John born 1829 Bedworth, David born 1834, Eliza born 1839, Elizabeth born 1841, James born 1844, Mary born 1846, Martha born 1849.

There is no william on the 1851 census. But managed to locate a william born 1833 bedworth, who is in prison in the House of Correction in 1851. This is possible that william is in fact part of my family.
If anyone is connected to James and Mary Lenton and can give me any details, then it would be greatly appreciated. If possible would also like to find James Born around 1801 parents. It could be James is born later than 1801 as on the 1841 he is 35 years old.

With Exhall, Bedworth and Foleshill all mentioned as birthplaces it is really confusing me as to who is who and I am not sure if I have found the right person or not.

Birmingham/Lancashire Lenton search

Has anyone got a 'Mary Ann Lenton' (maiden name) born Birmingham, England 1892 in their family tree. This was my Grandfather William's younger sister. His younger brother Joseph was sadly killed aged 20 in WW1. As my father was an only child this has left us pretty bare on my paternal side! So what happened to Mary? Did she survive and marry maybe providing us with second cousins on my Dads side? Any info would be much appreciated.

Also is anyone out there with family connections to William Lenton born Coventry 1841. He had 6 children (one of which -Joseph being my great Grandfather). The family moved to Birmingham in the 1860's. I believe 2 sons went north to Lancashire (Colne/Nelson?) James and Walter. Remaining children Joesph,Amey, william and Albert (all born Birmingham 1870's) stayed in Birmingham. Again, any info much appreciated.

cheers, George Lenton (London England)

Sorry for the slight delay in responding - just 're-discovered this site. In answer to your question - yes my great great grandfather moved from Coventry to Birmingham in around 1870 to work in the jewellery quarter. He had about 6 children, so there's probably quite a few 2nd/3rd cousins out there somewhere!

Regards, George
