My name is Adriana Leonardo, I'm Italian and I'm looking for my family's ancestors.

My grandfather was Mario Leonardo, her wife Carmela Capogreco, both from Siderno, in the province of Reggio Calabria, south Italy. My father's name is Vincenzo.

Some of their relatives left Italy and moved to USA and/or Canada, but I have no other information about that.

Please feel free to contact me and I'll ask my father other info about his family (i.e. their births/deaths).

I have ancestors with the same middle and last names born around the same time as your relative. They could possibly be brothers. My great grandfather was Joao Machado Leonardo born 1866. His brother was Antonio Machado Leonardo born approx 1869. My family said they come from the island of Sao Jorge but the Ellis Is registry recorded their residence as Terceira. My relatives said Terceira was a District once for three of the islands. Therefore he was not necessarily from Terceira. I did not meet my grt grandfather. He died 1944, I was born 1946. Joao married Roza de Jesus in the Azores and both came to U.S. thru Ellis Is late 1800's.
They had 5 children all born in Prov, Rhode Island. They grew up in Calif and died in Calif. There are a few descendants from that line living in Tex, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Calif, Arizona. I may have some still living on the east coast. Not sure as I do not know how many may have come to the U.S. or remained in the Azores. I would like very much to hear back from you. I realize several years have passed since you last inquired on Jose Machado Leonardo.

To the Leonardo family. I do not know of your Jack L. I do have have Leonardo ancestry. My grt grandfather and grandmother from Sao Jorge. Joao Machado Leonardo married Roza de Jesus (father's name Flores) Came to U.S. in late 1800's had 5 children and then moved to Calif from Rhode Island. One of their children, Roza, my grandmother married José F. Azevedo and they had dau named Emily who married Joel Quinton who had me, Norma. I go by my maiden name which is Quinton. My g grandfather had a brother name Antonio Machado Leonardo. I know this to be true as it was posted on Ellis reg and my aunts speak of an Uncle Tony. There may have been other brothers and sisters to my g grandfather. Would love to compare stories. Norma Quinton

Joao is my grt grandfather. Born 12/24/1866 on Sao Jorge but villiage unknown. My aunts no nothing of anyother Leonardo family except for Joao's brother Antonio Machado Leonardo. (Uncle Tony) Both men moved to U.S. in late 1800's. Joao brought with him a wife, Roza de Jesus, father's name Flores. She is also from Sao Jorge. The Ellis Island registry states their res was Terceira but my relatives in Canada say that was a district back then for 3 of the islands. A cousin that I have not yet met living in Faial says I should search the Public Library of Terceira for my Leonardo ancestors. I would like to contact any of my cousins.
I have only one photo of my grt grandparents and one of my grt uncle Antonio. I think Joao's mother's name was Jesus.
When I see so many names from Sao Jorge with middle name Machado and last name Leonardo I feel they must be related. I can only imagine few many people living on that island back in the 1800's. Please write me with any info you may have. Norma Quinton

She first married Basil Grippando (in Oklahoma) and they had four children: Bernice (Lima), Rose (Lake), Frank and John. They later moved to St. Joesph, MO. Hi, I don't know if we are related in anyway, but my grandmother's name was Virginia Machado Leonardo (born 1909, died 2000). Her father was Joao Machado and her mother was Luiza Cabral. I am still trying to get further back than that. My grandmother was from Santa Maria, but I do not know where her parents were from.

Do you have any other information we could swap?

I'm trying to find my ancestors. My great-grandfather was Manuel Machado Leonardo, born around 1800 in Sao Jorge, Azores, and married Antonia Candida from Ponta Delgada. His parents were Joao Machado de Borba, born in Norte Pequeno, Sao Jorge, and Anna de Conceicao, also from Norte Pequeno. I'm wondering if her surname might be Leonardo. I am trying to locate my grandfather. He disappeared from Merced County, CA in March or April of 1932 or 33. He had a wife Violet Cunha Leonardo, and 3 daughters, Mary Jane, Irene and Eleanor. His parents were from the Azores and lived in Pacific Grove CA, They were Estulano Frances (Isidore), Leonardo. He had 3 sisters, Ruth, Hazel and Bernadette. He was born in San Francisco Bay Area on July 25, 1903 or 04. He was a dairyman or would have worked in the dairy industry. He came from a family of long longevity and it could be possible he is still alive and has more family. He loved the outdoors and may have traveled to the Northwest states, but also had relatives on the East Coast. There is no death certification through SSDI, however we still think it is probable he is deceased. Would like to know of burial site and if there is any other family.
