Hi,

I am researching Catherine Leopard/Leppert born 1842 probably Cumberland Co, PA. Her death record lists her father as John Leppert. I believe this family was living in Frankford, Cumberland County, PA. I believe that John Leopard/Leppert is the son of John Lepoard Sr. It is possible that John Jr and your Mary are siblings.

Catherine moved to Crawford County, OH by her marriage in Oct 1868 in Crawford County, OH.

I would like to correspond with you on this family.

The Jacob Leopard I am looking for died in 1812. I have a few lists of Americans who served at specific battles in the Niagara Peninsula but did not find any Leopards or Lipperts. There are some online sources with militia and military lists from the War of 1812. You would have to use a search engine to find them. It would be helpful if you knew your Jacob's rank, commanding officer, and/or regiment. It is often easier to trace officers than the rank and file. I dont't think I can help you any further with this quest.

Hi,

Okay, one of the Jacob Leopards that I was thinking about was from York County, Pennsylvania, so I guess he wouldn't be who you were looking for, but the other one is from my family, Jacob Lippert/Leopard, who was in the War of 1812, and served in New York State, and my cousin said he was probably in Canada, but he came home from serving in the War and took his family up to around the Buffalo, New York area and settled, so he probably isn't who you were looking for, either?

Earl ehlippert@comcast.net

The use of York was common on both sides of the border. The 2nd Regiment of York Militia was recruited from western York County, Ontario, Canada. The City of Toronto was named York during the War of 1812 and was in the same county. There was also a Toronto Township (not connected to the city) in western York County. To add to the confusion Ontario and New York State both had an Ontario County. If you can place your Leopards/Lepards along the western shore of Lake Ontario during the war I would like to hear more about them. Many of the settlers living there were from Pennsylvania. The first wave were British supporters and the later ones in the early 1800s were attracted by free land and no taxes.

Hi!
My GGG Grandfather was William Pinkney Leopard. I have many census records that connect him to william leopard as his father and Jane...now...here's the trick: There was ANOTHER william and jane leopard in SC around the same time. I got very confused until I started adding up the ages. Then I found the approriate DOB. So I found many of their records. The most interesting was from 1850 when an E. Leopard (Leppard) was living next door with two young women (25 and 27) and no husband. She was 70 years old.
Doing some research I found that the same woman was found on the 1840 census married to Thomas and with the same 2 girls (only 10 years younger). Obviously, William was not on there as he would have been 20 at the time and on his own, but the 1830 census has the correct data for me to deduce that a 10 year old male lived in the home. This was more than likely william (father of william pinkney). I only say this because it is most likely that a woman who was widowed moved next to a son...not a cousin or nephew.

So deduced from census:
Thomas and Elizabeth begat William

William married Jane
(they have 4 random Clarke children living in the house with them in 1850...so Clarke MIGHT be her maiden name as they may be dead brother's kids...but also could be a sister of his who married a Clarke and passed away- but the Clarke route might help?)

Jane and William begat William P who married Martha Elizabeth Wynn.

Which of his kids are your descendants? Mine is William Walter Leopard- William Malcolm Leopard- William Malcolm Leopard Jr- my mother Carol Sue Leopard.

FYI: I have very little research to back up finds beyond Thomas (Back to the Lipparts in Germany). I have ship records, but no birth records...and as you know, census records NAMING people fail to really exist before 1850. It's all "free white persons under 18" and what not...

So take the rest of my research with the grain of salt. But Thomas down is pretty solid. Happy to send you any jpegs of graves etc if you like- or visit my tree!
LEAH

I am interested in Charles W. Leopard's mother's family. In 1870 Henderson County Texas census Charles is living in the household of Nathan and Theodocia Avant. Also a Richard Leopard is there. 1860 Perry County census lists Charles and Richard in John Leopard household. Marriage license in Perry County John Leopard to Margaret Wilson. Also a license of Nathan T. Avant to Theodocia Wilson. ( Nathan's stepfather was a Charles Leopard). So are Margaret and Theodocia sisters?
Anyone with any proof? Are Charles and John kin?
Nathan lived in Dallas County Alabama

My husaband's William Thomas Leopard (in our database) was born in 1842 and died 1902. And, as mentioned, we have Amanda Duncan as his wife. We also have William David Lepard/Leopard and Nancy Raney as his parents.

What would you like to know? I am Paul Reeves Leopard. Paul King Leopard was my grandfather on my father's side (James Reeves Leopard). He was born in North Carolina in 1910 as you indicated and indeed died in Waxhaw, NC where he lived with my family. He was married at one time to Lilly Mae Mincy (my father's mother) but they had been divorced for quite sometime and she had been remarried to Sam Smith, both are deceased. My grandfather never remarried. Of course, there is much more that can be shared or if there is specific info you're looking for let me know.

Hi
I saw your message and think I may be able to help. I have several thousand LEPPARD and associated records, including a Richard LEPPARD who married a Matilda Augusta in 1882 in Reigate. Richard was born in 1850 in Slaugham (he would have been a bit young to have married in 1857). The only problem is that Matilda's surname was REMNANT not EDE??. If you have any further information you can let me have such as your grandmothers details I will see what I can find. From this Richard I go back to a William LEOPARD born 1690. Please reply to the list and my email n.leppard@dsl.pipex.com Nick Leppard

Gerry Leopard,
You and I corresponded some time back about the Vowells in Galveston. I've done a lot of research on the Vowells and Leopards. There's a grave in Bethlehem Pentecostal Church Cemetery in Winston Co., MS, which could be your father's grave:
Clarence P. Leopard
Pvt US Army
World War II
Apr. 11, 1923 Jan. 29, 1988

Is this your father? Did he have a sister named Maxine? This Clarence P. Leopard was son of William H. "Will" Leopard and Callie Eugenia (Bennett) Vowell Leopard. Callie's maiden name was Bennett; she was born in 1886; she was a daughter of Drew Warren Bennett and Sarah Margaret Elizabeth (Massey) Bennett. Callie Bennett was married first to Thomas M. "Tom" Vowell, son of John Henry Vowell and Leanna (Keen) Vowell. John Henry Vowell was son of Malachi Vowell and Nancy (Leopard) Vowell.

Tom and Callie Vowell had no children. Tom Vowell died in 1907 (month unknown to me). Callie married William H. "Will" Leopard in June 1907. Will Leopard was son of Thadious L. "Thad" Leopard and Virginia (Vowell) Leopard. Thad Leopard was a potter. Virginia (Vowell) Leopard was a daughter of Malachi Vowell and Nancy (Leopard) Vowell.

Will Leopard had previously been married and had 6 children by that marriage. Will and Callie Leopard had 3 children: Dock W. Leopard who died young; Maxine Leopard who married Mack G. Todd; and Clarence Paul Leopard. Will Leopard died in Oct. 1939, and is buried in Smallwood Cemetery (aka Wood Cemetery) in Winston Co., MS. Callie (Bennett) Vowell Leopard died in Nov. 1961 and is buried in Old Mars Hill Cemetery in Winston Co., MS.

The Social Security Death Index shows Clarence P. Leopard's last residence was Philadelphia, MS. If he actually died in Mississippi, you could obtain a copy of his death certificate from Jackson, MS. Death certificates usually have the names of the parents of the deceased, if the Informant for the death certificate knew that information.

If you think this Clarence P. Leopard is your father, I can provide additional information.

Carla Vowell
mrscrv@charter.net

I am seeking pedigree information for a Dock Leopard, who was born on 22 September 1867, in Plattsburg, Mississippi and died on 12 August 1943. He was married on 28 September 1894, in Mississippi to Alberta Vowell, who was born on 28 June 1878, in Winston County, Mississippi and died on 15 August 1965. Any assistant would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Gerald W. von Kamrath
gwvonkam@san.rr.com
I haven't found a connection between Jane Watkins and John Jennings, except as you said. The Illinois census of that year, shows a Watkins family, who probably knew the Jennings brother's family, since both were from the Edgefiedl Dist.

Helen
