Hi David,

Cannot say for certain that the Asselby/Howden Levitt's are tied in with the Brantingham ones. It would be good to find a link if possible but I haven't found one. My problem is the lack of online birth records for Asselby. If your sister comes up with a link I should love to hear from you/her.

Regards

Hello there.

Bit of a late response I know, but my sister is tracing our family tree and has gone back as far as 1720 (ish). We lived around Brantingham from this point and around the Yorkshie area. I notice Brantingham is quite close to Howden and wondered if there was any link with the Levitt's in Howden with those in Brantingham.

Please let me know if you want to enquire further as my sister is sending over a paper copy of the family tree (she now lives in US)

Thanks

I wonder if anyone knows anything about Dorothy Elizabeth LEVI(TT) and Elsie Ruth LEVI(TT)?

They started off as LEVI then the became LEVIT and LEVITT.

Dorothy died young but Elsie lived to a good ago so wonder if there are any descendants.

There was a recent television programme about Dorothy, little is know about her after 1909. I have found details of her death but just interested to know what she was doing after 1909.

MB

I have just seen your posting of 2 Nov 2009 and I think it worth letting you know that a couple of objects directly linked to Robert Levitt turned up on the Antiques Roadshow last year (Season 32 Episode 16). One of these was the leather collar that he wore and the other was a letter to his wife. The objects are in the possession of Robert Levitt's great great grandaughter and she may be able to help you with the information you seek. I suggest contacting her through the BBC.

However unable to be certain as to which one he is on 1841/51 census.
His father is also called Charles according to his marriage certificate (1875)(Shown as Charles (Deceased) when he married Jane Knight).
Charles was in the army from 1859 to 1878, and therefore is not on 1861/71 census as he was stationed in India for most of this period.
Cannot find any definitive records before 1859 when he went in the army. His Place of Birth is shown as Orford on his service records.

Any help would be great!

Many Thanks

Karen

Theodore Levitt

Born in 1906, died in 1966 at the age of 60. Married to Estelle Cohen and had 5 children, 4 boys and one girl. My mother, who is his only daughter, told me that he lived in Alberta, she said Rockyford and Calgary. He was somehow connected to A Crystal family. He fought in WW2, was in Glasgow at some point. I know nothing about this side of the family and I have tried searching and can find nothing. Anything will help. Thank You.

I AM "marilynk1953" AND THIS IS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I am continuing to search for family members. Albert W. Levitt was my birthfather. He was not married to my mother, Clarcey "Clare" Aubry, at the time of my birth on June 15, 1953. I am not sure he even knew my mother was pregnant with his child. He was a truck driver at the time they met. My mother was a waitress at a Truck Stop named "The 5th Wheel" on Gratiot, near Hall Road.

Re: Origin of Levitt

Two possible sources, I have heard. The first is that the name comes from one of the numerous locations in Normandy called Livet such as Jonqueret-de-Livet. I believe that on the Battle Abbey Roll some guy called Livet accompanied William.

Another origin would be Jewish. Taken from the tribe of Levi. The Levites were priests and musicians chosen by God. Although they were one of the 12 tribes of Israel they were not to be allocated part of the land as God himself was their inheritance.

I know which one I prefer - and it ain't French.

My mother's family were Levitt's and they lived in Barnsley (not far away) and I know for a fact they lived in that area in the c1900's. Unfortunately, I don't have any information because my mother could never be bothered to trace the family line. Just for interest, my grandfather's name was Maurice and he was a miner.

I am trying to trace a Bernard Robert Levitt born in approximately 1912. He was in the R.C.A. in WW2 and came across to England and served for a time at Colchester Barracks, Essex. In 1941 he married an English lady and on the marriage certificate gives his address as 368 (or 36b) Lindy Avenue California.
In 1945 he left England and we didn't hear from him again. He has a son left in England now in his 60s and also a g.daughter and his son would so much like to know more about his father he saw for such a short time and his mother never mentioned again until the day she died. We would like to know more about Bernard and his family as we haven't any other documents on him or any photos. He was named as a Bachelor on the marriage certificate but probably has since remarried in either the US or Canada.
His father was Frederick Levitt. We have searched so many records but still we can't fit the puzzle we have been left with.
