Hya Sam, My name is Yarranton. Name taken from my adoption in 53. (Albert) married Amy Hobbs in Glos and her mothers name was Ellen (Eleanor) Liddington who married Frederick Elton Hobbs (both buried at slimbridge). She hailed from Lydney, so believe 1 or 2 generations before her did.

I'm working on a different Liddington Line in Lydney and became intrigued by your search.
From BMD your Ellen did marry Elton Frederick Hobbs in 1918 in the Dursley Registration District. At that time Dursley and Lydney although on either side of the River Severn were in effect linked by a railway bridge (Now Demolished)
If you look in the excellent Forest of Dean History Site there is a record of Ellen Liddingtons Christening in 1898.

Hi Chris. I'm not doing well on the ancestry front but getting used to it. My Gran was born in Lydney in the 1890s with the name Ellen Liddington. She married a Frederick Elton Hobbs in gloucestershire. Ellen's mother and grandmother were also from Lydney. But it does appear that the Hobbs' side of the family were fom your area in Wiltshire. Hmmmmm

My husband is descended from James. I have family tree info indicating all the siblings' names that you mentioned, as well as another one named William Henry.

Hi,
One of my ancestors, Florence Liddington (nee Jones) who was born in Birmingham married & lived in Long
Whatton.
She & husband Joseph Liddington had two daughters named Carol Ann & Anita May.
Anita May Liddington married and her married name was Catherall.
Carol Ann Liddington married a gentleman by the name of Graham Smith.
I believe that Florence left Long Whatton following the death of her husband and moved to the Loughborough
area where both daughters are thought to have lived too.
Should anyone be looking into the same family names (LIDDINGTON, CATHERALL & SMITH) I would be
most grateful if you would contact me please.

Joesph Liddington married Florence Jones & they settled in Long Whatton, Leics where they lived for some years having two daughters born & baptised there -- Anita May, baptised 09/07/1950 & Carol Ann, baptised 06/02/1955. Joseph Liddington died in 1978 aged 52 & his ashes were scattered at All Saints Church, Long Whatton. It is thought that Florence & her daughters then moved away from Long Whatton, possibly to the Knightthorpe area of Loughborough.
I would dearly like to know what became of Florence, Anita & Carol in later years.
If anyone can help me please I would be very grateful if you would contact me please.

Hello - I am replying because I was trawling the net for information about my family - Liddington. I was born Jane Liddington and have Malta and Portsmouth links like the Jane Liddington mentioned on your list...I was born a little later than 1863! How are you doing on your research and what part of the world are you in? My Liddingtons were Midlands based but I think originated from London? Hope to hear from you sometime!

Hi That would make James and Hanna my wifes Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother Benjamin would be my wifes Great Great Grandfather as Ellen was her Grandmother. That is if Ellen had a Son Called Charles Bowman and her Husband was James Bowman.

Ellen, born around 1886 in Malmesbury. She was the daughter of James Liddington and Hannah Miles.
James was the son of Benjamin Liddington who was one of Elizabeth's elder brothers. Hope this helps.

I would love to hear from any Liddington's who originate from Brokenborough. My Dad's Great Grandmother was Elizabeth Liddington (born Brokenborough in about 1841) to John Liddington and Elizabeth Smith.
Elizabeth married Charles Saunders in 1859.
The census shows extended families from her elder brothers, Benjamin and Isaac, living in Brokenborough and Lydney.

Were you born in Malta? If so, your family is connected to mine via Norah, Edward and then Charles Byrne. Charles is my wife's Great Grandfather. I am in frequent contact with Michael Byrne.

Do you have any info on a family of Lidingtons from England. The siblings were Mary Ann, Loiusa, Wlizabeth, Martha, James, George, thomas. That is only seven of the 16 children. I do not know the parents. Thomas died and was buried in Summerfield, Eng. NancyP

I have info on the decendents of Thomas Lidington married to Elizabeth Bell. They were from England In 1852. Not sure what his trade was. Or what his middle name was.
This "Thomas" had siblings, Mary Ann, Loiusa, Elizabeth, Martha, James, and George. I have read that there were 16 children in this family. These are only 7 of them. Nancy

I visited the town of Liddington near Swindon, England in Wiltshire. There is a second town elsewhere in Engand also named Liddington. The Liddington "castle" is on a hill overlooking the Wiltshire Liddington town and the surrounding countryside. The castle is actually the earthen remains of an Iron Age fort. This may have been improved upon at some time enough to quality as an actual castle, but no one seems to know for sure. My wife and I hiked up to it, it was quite a view from the top.

Local legend states that King Arthur and his men fought a significant battle on & around the fort site. We spoke to a number of people in the town, including the unofficial town historian. There is a Liddington manor house in the town, but they told us we were the first people with the actual name of Liddington that anyone could recall ever visiting the town.

We also were given a tour of the church in Liddington, built by William the Conqueror. To our disappointment, there were no grave stones bearing the name of Liddington.

One other interesting note, the Wiltshire town of Liddington is listed in the Doomsday Book, but spelled as Ledentone.

Croanford Nr. Wadebridge in Cornwall UK. We are looking for
any info on Thomas Saxby-Liddington Master Baker from

Hi carl hey you stole my name Im carl Liddington hehe but all joking aside the knoweledge I know off our family is that there is TOWN and CASTLE called Liddington. To enter the castle visitor book you must have proof that you are a Liddington i.e. Birth certificate.

Charles Liddington married Ann; both of Nettleton Parish, near Burton, Wiltshire, England. They had at least one child, John Liddington, born January 26, 1876. John Liddington, married Ada Mary Cull, born 1876, Bristol, England. Apparently, Ada was non-Catholic, while John was a Catholic at St. Mary's. John and Ada Liddington had two children in England; one name John Vincent Liddington. John and Ada immigrated to Canada on the SS Royal George to the port of Quebec, August 16, 1911. They had two children born to them in England, a boy named John Vincent and a girl named blanche. Apparently, the girl, named Blanche, died in England. No cemetary records were found todate. On the immigration ship was a boy, aged 7 years, with the initials of J, and a nameless baby of 10 months old. Nothing more is known of this baby. The family lived in Halton County, Ontario, Canada where they had three other children: Dorothy, Harold and Stan. They then moved on to Calgary, Alberta. Nothing is known of any other family members of John Liddington or Ada Mary Cull (Liddington)from England.

My grandmother Dorothy May Smith's first husband was a Liddington I think from Dartford Kent. They must have been married around 1912, and Liddington was dead by 1923 because by that time she had married my Grandpa Justin Smith.

From a picture I have of the first wedding, he looks about 30 years old, so maybe his birth year is around 1882.

Any way if anyone knows Liddington from Kent please let me know.
