Hi Carol,
I don't know if you got my previous reply but here goes again--the Lightfoot name is a very prevalent name in Virginia and Kentucky. My sister went back there and saw an old original house built back in the 1700s that once belonged to a Lightfoot. Frances Lightfoot Lee was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. I will look up more info if you still care to hear from me. Please let me know.

Sincerely,
Melody Lightfoot Weeden

Re: Harrison Lightfoot

Edwin B. Lightfoot (son of Phillip Lightfoot and Rachel Atkinson) was born Nov 12, 1810 in Blakely, Georgia172, and died Sep 25, 1854 in Blakely, Georgia Early County. He married Catherine Donelson Cody on Nov 04, 1833, daughter of Barnett Hardeman Cody and Fransinia Moore McCormick.

Notes for Edwin B. Lightfoot:
From "Henry's Heritage: A History of Henry County, Alabama, Vol. II" compiled by Dr. Hoyt M. Warren, by Henry County Historical Society, 1980. Page 103 - 105, "The Gordon - Lightfoot Families" by Mary Lightfoot Elcan Nichols:
The father of the 3 Lightfoot brothers was Edwin B. Lightfoot, scion of the Virginia family of Lightfoots, which descends from Rev. Richard Lightfoot, born 1563, rector of Stoke-Bruerne, Northhamptonshire, England. His grandson, Hon. Philip Lightfoot of Yorktown, Virginia, was in the colony as early as 1671. An article in The Richmond New Leader in 1931 said that "he owned large estates in several counties and gave generously to the welfare of church and state." The tombs of the older generations buried near Tedington, the Lightfoot family home at Sandy Point, Charles City County, bear the family arms.

From Wiems/Barnett website:
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/w/i/e/Thomas-B-Wi...

Residing in Early County, GA in 1840 Census; in 1850 recorded as Hotel Keeper, born in GA (he was also assistant marshall and census taker for Early County). Children taken into home of their uncle, Rev. Edmund Cody, after death of their parents.

Kathy: Thanks for your reply. I too have no information of John A. Roadman prior to arrival in America in 1763. A search of that name in England reveals nothing, but various Roadman's appear in Ayre, Scotland. I'm still hoping I can find a thread or ship record that might lend a clue. Thanks and good luck.
My genealogy cousin and I are related to the Roadman family through his daughter Sarah Amelia Roadman, who married Robert Williams Pulliam. I think at the time I posted that question we were trying to connect Sarah Amelia to William and Elizabeth. All I still have for Elizabeth though is still the basics, that she was born about 1755 in Virginia and died in Virginia. Not much more for John Augustus Roadman, born about 1750 in England and died in Virginia. If you have real dates and places I would love them. I have bits and pieces on the family from William Chesley on down if there is anything you might be looking for. Thanks, Kathy Covert Yawn

I am searching for information about the parents of John Lightfoot. He had a cousin, Bartholomew, son of Henry, who deeded land to him. I'm wondering if John could have been the son of Sherwood Lightfoot, who did have a son John born about 1730. The Lightfoot family had lands in Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Brunswick County, Virginia.

I am a descendant of John, also of William Claxton Lightfoot.

Any suggestions appreciated.

The lines in the book "Calling All Lightfoots" are extremely confusing because the author does not number the generations. I am a descendent of William Claxton Lightfoot and would truly like to know his ancestors. It seems from the book that his father is Harrison Lightfoot., and it also seems that Harrison's father is Armistead Lightfoot. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Sue, I remember our correspondence. I have been unable to do any research at length while my husband was ill the last 3 yrs. Hope to get back to it soon as I am not ready to give up on old Henry. There is a consistency in how he named his first 3 children and those of John Lightfoot of Montgomery Co NC, later in Henry/Stewart Co TN. If you want to discuss this I can be reached at orthe2@comcast. I do not know why he named his first son Wm Taylor, have found no Taylor connections in that time period or William for that matter. Noone is named Goodrich so if there had been a connection you'd think that name would be carried on through generations in our line. Henry T may have been ostrasized for his actions. Who knows ?

Hi Cynthia, we corresponded several years ago on this line. I still find no link for Henry Taylor Lightfoot to any earlier families. With so many families documented now it seems ODD he does not seem to fit. Presently I am updating source material from Henry Taylor Lightfoot down to his dtr. Rebecca who md John Moore son of Moses Moore on to my direct line. After 40 yrs of seaching which my mom and I have done, I will close the book so to speak and hand it onto my daughter in hopes someday the mystery will be solved.
Sue Overturf in CA

I believe that its 1870 and that he was married in 1891, to my Great Grandmother Julia Ann Anderson. their children were,Julia (1894-1938) Carrie (1899-) Charles (1901-) Edward W (1901-) Viola (1907-) John (1911-). From what I can see is that they were from VA, what part I don't know.

Perhaps there WERE no Cherokee "Lightfoots".what I do know is that there is a listing of a "Ga-ho-ga" Lightfoot who was married to an Adair (my family name). Ga-ho-ga is a Cherokee name meaning something like "beautiful young woman" and was also the name of a distant Cherokee grandmother of mine, Ga-ho-ga Foster-Adair,(Georgia about 1745(?)).Many Native Americans were given English names (Like Foster and perhaps Lightfoot) ...here in New Mexico it was common for the Natives to be given Spanish names by the invaders who could not or rather would not try to pronounce the Indian names. For instance my husbands family were given the name "Suazo". But today many are returning to their Native "given names" as have. They are so much more beautiful and meaningful and help avoid mistaking and Indian for a Hispanic . (there is no love lost between these cultures in New Mexico!)
Then there is the possibility that this Ga-ho-ga Lightfoot was a mixed -breed which was also common.
Good luck. This is complicated research!
J. Standing Deer
Taos Pueblo
