I purchased a photo of Emma Lilley b. 1856 at an antique store and would like to return it to a family member. John and his wife, Emma, were both born in PA. They are on the census of Marion, Kansas 1900-1930 with their children, Georgia, Roger and a couple more. Roger had two children, Hilliard Clair and Craig by 1930. I believe Craig to have moved to the Dakotas before moving back to KS. He also served in WWII. Hilliard C. married Ruby Schesinger and moved to Pierce Co., WA. If anyone is related to Emma and would like her photo or knows someone that would appreciate it, please contact me directly at dianahorton@msn.com .

Just wondering if anyone here is connected to this Lilley family. I'm researching my SKINNER family and I've found that WILLIAM BANKS SKINNER was one of the founders of Lilley and Skinner Footwear. William Banks Skinner was born about 1847 in Rushden, Northamptonshire, England. He married JANE LILLEY in 1871. I don't know who else started the business with him.

I have a John LILLEY who was on the 1851 census in Lancs, England, married to Margaret (nee NEVILLE) Both were born in Ireland.
I have been unable to find a marriage for them in England so assume they married in Ireland.
They were catholic.
It gave John's age as 30, but I think it was 24
It gave Margarets age as 24, but I think that it was 18.
Margaret's father was called Robert.
As I don't know the county that they came from I am unable to go further with my research.
Any suggestions?

Seeking information about WILLIAM LILLEY / LILLY, born
c1843, son of Joseph, a 'Labourer'.

WILLIAM married LETITIA SARAH HOWARD 1863 in Upper Holloway / Islington, Middlesex.

At that time he gave his occupation as 'Crucible maker', although by 1868 he described himself as a 'Labourer'.

Suprisingly I cannnot locate him on any censuses whatsoever (1851 onwards). Nor on any UK Death Registers or Immigration Records to the US.

The family must have fallen on bad times because Letitia gave birth to a daughter in the local workhouse in 1868.

If anyone recognises this family unit I'd love to hear from them.
Betsey Lilly or Lilley of Worcester County, Massachusetts

Betsey Lilly, age 60, born Mass., is enumerated in the 1850 census, Webster, Worcester Co., Mass., living with a widower, John Fairfield, and his children. In 1860, Betsey surname Fairfield, age 67, b. Mass., is listed under John Fairfield, China Township, St. Clair County, Michigan. John Fairfield died in China Township 13 Feb. 1866; 'Mrs. Fairfield' died 14 Feb. 1866; both are buried in Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair, Michigan. Perhaps Lilly was Betsey's surname from a first marriage? Seeking any information about Betsey. John Fairfield's first wife was Lydia Anne Dodge who died in Southbridge, Mass. 1844.

Irish Lilley Read This
Lilly, Lilley, and Lillie in Ireland

In Ireland, the name O'Laechaille was anglicized as Leech and
Lilly. The name Mac Ailghile (Mac Ghailghile), pronounced like
the words ale and gile, was a sept related to the MacGuires of
County Fermanaugh, Ulster Province, Ireland. Mac Ailghile was
anglicized as MacAlilly which became Lilly, Lilley, and Lillie.
The central Ulster Lilleys were MacAlillys.
The McGuire name originated with the ancient name of Guire,
founded by Colla da Crioch, son of Eocha Dubhlein, son of Carbre
Lifleachair, King of Ireland, A.D. 264. Eocha Dubhlein of
Doivlen founded the Hy Many Tribe.
In old Ireland, names were related to tribes, more than to
blood lines.

This is the only record that I have for research purposes, on the Lilly and Ferguson families in IRELAND...

"John Sr. and Dorothy (FERGUSON) LILLEY were both born in Ireland (county not yet established but believed to be Fermanaugh), as was their oldest child, Bridget, b 1835-1836; some time after that they emigrated to Canada where their son Patrick was born 1840-1841, and then went to St. Albans Franklin County, Vermont, where the 1850 CENSUS shows them with additional children, Mary, 6; James, 4; John, 2; and Dorothy, 3/4 year old. John, Sr., Bridget, and the four youngest children were later in West Jefferson although it is not known when they moved there; Dorothy, Sr. and Patrick may have been there, too. Bridget married Edward BOLAND, and their plot is in the St. Patrick Church Cemetery, are buried (according to the church's very bad records), without individual markers; Bridget and Edward BOLAND, Dorothy Lilley CARON, John LILLEY, died 1860 aged 50 (one of their letters to me indicated to me the church's records did not start until 1878), and Mary LILLEY, died 1879 whom they decided must be Mrs. John LILLEY but since John's wife was Dorothy, this must be the daughter Mary [she would have been 35 years old, b. VT] (they make the statement she came from Ireland and died of consumption but no real dates given). Dorothy's name is not shown on their records which proves nothing, of course --in one letter, they made the statement that "Mary (GATES) LILLEY was buried there in 1879" and in another "Francis BOLEN, son of Edward BOLAN and Bridget LILLY, born Jan. 20, 1868, baptized Mar. 8, 1868, sponsors were James LILLY and Mary LILLY" ---the BOLANDS had no son Francis and their daughter Lilley BOLAND was born on Jan. 20, 1868. She later married Horace PLIMELL, and both she and her daughter Lilley PLIMELL SCHWAB corresponded with Susie LILLEY and Zada LILLEY BROWN for several years, but were unable to add much specific information on the LILLEY ancestors, nor on those who had been in West Jefferson. Lilley PLIMELL wrote that Grandma Dorothy came from a wealthy family in Ireland, was called "Lady Dorothy", and had been disinherited because she ran away and married the family coachman. Lilley PLIMELL-SCHWAB'S older sister Helen confirmed this and wrote that some years ago, a well known lawyer of London, Ohio, had gone to DUBLIN to establish a claim to the Ferguson land --he had some legal papers to do this and is said to have located the land, but then what?? No one knows."
Three brothers, (you
got it!), Johann/John Lelle, married to Anna
Maria Hornung, immigrated to Warren, Ill. in
1890 via Little Ferry, NJ, (He killed the King's
deer.): Georg/George Lillie, married to Anna
Maria Schafer, immigrated to Clear Lake, Wis.
via an Uncle John Lillie in Illinois in 1900.
(He killed the deer keeper!) And Daniel Lelle
and his wife, Catharina Hornberger, and their
four children immigrated to Dubuque, Iowa in
1910, all from Ludwigswinkel, Germany. My grand-
mother, Magdalena/Delena/Lena Lelle, married
to Friedrich/Fritz/Fred Faul immgrated to
Spring Valley, Wis. in about 1891. I have some
of the Lelle ancestors and many of the Faul
ancestors. Be free to contact me at
saavedra@erols.com. (I couldn't find a way to
post this message under the 'Lelle' name as
there are no others.)

Dorothea M. Saavedra

Looking for any and all relatives and former students of Minnie Stoddard-Lilley from Mendocino County California.

Minnie was the daughter of
Mark Bolles Stoddard and Mary Jane Hall,
her siblings were:
Mabel
Edward
Susan
Ella
Emily.

Miinie was a teacher who taught in one room school houses in the Andersonia/ Piercy for over 30 years. She and her husband Willian Lilley purchased a piece of land that had a 250 foot tall burned out redwood tree that they turned into "The World's Famous Tree House" which still stands today. Minnie is burried in a mausoleum right near the tree house.

Today there are two bridges that are part of the Route 101 realignment project that will stretch across the Eel River and Minnie's mausoleum. The current owner's of that property feel that it would be fitting to have the bypass named after Minnie. We are looking for support in getting this passed. Please email me if you would like to help us. There is much more to this amazing wonam's life that I am happy to share.

Thanks,
Joy Michelle Graeff

Jacob Lilly / Lilley m. Desire Bodine, Turbotville, Northumberland, PA >? Pickaway Co. Ohio

I am interested in the Lilley/Lilly family of Turbotville Northumberland, PA.area. I am gathering information on the Jacob Bodine family that lived in what is currently Madison Twp., Columbia Co. PA [was Derry, Northumberland] One of Jacob and Nancy Bodine's daughters, Desire Bodine, born between 1790-1800, married Jacob Lilley / Lilly. There are three Jacob Lilly's listed in the early census, a Sr, Jr, and another, all in the Turbotville area. In Jacob Bodine's probate records [1818] one of his 14 children is listed as Desire, intermarried with Jacob Lilley.

In a letter written by Nicholas Bodine to his sister Martha Bodine Beers in 1826 who lived in Pickaway Co., Ohio, he states that he had seen Desire the last time he was in Columbia Co. [he had moved to Ontario & was visiting family at the time he wrote the letter] but now Desire was in Ohio with Martha. This makes me think that maybe Desire is married to the Jacob Lilley/Lilly that is found in Pickaway Co. Ohio. The John Beers and Jacob Lilly families are close together in the 1820 & 1830 Madison Twp., Pickaway Co., Ohio census.

In 1820 & 1830, Jacob Jr and Sr are still found in Turbot Twp. Northumberland Co., PA

In 1810 there are 3 Jacob Lilly/Lilley listings in Turbot Twp. Northumberland, one over 45 and two 26-45. None of these is the Jacob Lilly found in Pickaway in 1820, as that Jacob Lilly was in the 16-26 age bracket and his wife was in the 26-45 age bracket.

Any help in sorting out which Jacob Lilley was married to Desire Bodine and what happened to their descendants would be most appreciated.
Joan Best
Trying to determine how Walter got to Chester Co. Pa. where he married one Mary Wollerton by whom he had 3 children (confirmed). Rumor has it that he came here from Ireland. If this is fact, can anyone tell me from where in Ireland? also where did he land in America. Thank You for any assistance.

c0461@comcast.net

I've recently found ancestors from Colchester. Thomas Lilley born about 1804 married a Susannah Lambert born about 1811. They had a least one child Helena Jane born 1853. Thomas dies in 1864. Susannah moves in with her daughter in London in 1871. There are probably other children out there of the marriage as Susannah was 42 when she had Helena. Does anybody know anything more about them?

I have a copy of an obituary for James Wesley Lilley. It is from the "Clarke County Ti" - I assume it is Times - the article is cut off. It says that he was a lifetime resident of Clarke Co., MS. His widow is Julia Molpus Lilley and he is survied by 3 sisters.

I know that I am related to this Lilley, but I am not sure how. I have an Emily Lilley whose parents were James Allen Lilley and Rachel Knight. Emily was born 1842 and had a brother, Benjamin Franklin Lilley, born in 1832. (She had other siblings, too.) Anyway, due to the date of Benjamin's birth, I do not think this is her brother, but possibly a cousin.

If anyone has any information, please let me know.

I need help with my Jennie Lilley. This is all the information I know about her. She was born around 1881 in either Scotland or Ireland. She immigrated to the United States before 1894 to the Philadelphia, PA area as she had her first child when she was 13 years of age. She married Harry Dunfee/Dunphy in Philadelphia, PA and the childrens names were, Edwin Douglas, Mary Harriet, Ruth Josephine, Chester Hatfield, David, Henrietta Jennie, Theodore Roosevelt, and James Harvey. She may have died in around 1905-6 in Philadelphia after the birth of James Harvey.

I have information on the children and Harry but keep drawing blanks with Jennie. I have looked under Lilly, Lillie, and also Lilley. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

John Evan(?) Lilley

I'm looking for information on John Evan Lilley. I'm not positive if that is his middle name or not. He was born around 1860 in PA. I think he was born around Fayette or Chester Co. In the PA 1910 Miracode index he is living in Fayette Co., PA.

His wife was named Mary also born around 1860. His children were named Charles (~1889), Bessie (~1892), William (~1894), and Isaac (~1898), my grandfather. My grandfather lived around Redstone, Fayette Co. for several years before he moved to Cleveland, OH around 1950.

I have a couple leads, but all of them I am not certain of. My closest lead is to a John Lilley b.1819 living in Redstone, Fayette Co. in 1870. Said he was born in Maryland. His wife's name was Sarah. But his son was named John C. Lilley, though the age and place match my grandfather's info.

Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. If you prefer, you can email me directly at TwoTwilght@aol.com.

Thanks,
Cathy
LILLEY, Emma Lee

I am looking for information on the children of Emma Lee LILLEY and John Albert HAYES, Jr. Emma and John were married Nov 7, 1895, probably in San Jacinto County, Texas. Emma was the daughter of Margaret VANN and (I don't have her father's name handy - I do have). John, Jr. was the son of John Albert and Annie Mary HENDON. He was born in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, in 1866, and moved with his parents and siblings to San Jacinto County shortly after the 1880 census was taken in Tuscaloosa. I have just received the names of their children from a cousin and I am trying to verify and get more information about them. Their children were Markus and Ursurie HAYES. John died Sep 23, 1913. Emma was listed in the household of her mother with 2 children in the San Jacinto County, Texas 1900 or 1910 census (sorry, I don't have access to all my records at this time). I do have more info on Emma. I would appreciate any information on this family. Thank you for your time.
Vickie :-)

Looking for Isaac Lilley in PA

Hi Everyone,

I’m looking for information on Isaac Allen (I think that was his middle name) Lilley (Lilly) from Uniontown or Redstone/Fayette, PA. My mother and grandparents spelled it Lilley, but in all of the census information I have found it was spelled Lilly. He lived in Uniontown until around 1950 (I think) when he moved to Cleveland, OH.

This is all the information I have on him:

Isaac was my grandfather on my mother’s side. He was born in 1896 and died in Cleveland, OH on December 6, 1957. The obituary said he had a brother, William. I have found Isaac in the 1920 census when he was married to his first wife, Mary Belle (maiden name unknown). He had 4 sons … Lloyd Allen, Clayton, Hubert, and Isaac Jr. He was living in Redstone, Fayette, PA.

In the 1930 census, it shows his second wife and my grandmother, Wilma Bradley Lilley (b.1910 d. 1977). They had six children … William, Florence, Mary, Janet, Linda Carol, and Beverly. At that time his mother was living with them. I only know her name was Margaret (or maybe Mary) and she was 68 (b.1865) at the time. I’ve discovered there are many, many Margarets in the Lillys! They were still living in Redstone, Fayette, PA at the time of the 1930 census.

If anyone has any information on Isaac Lilley/Lilly (particularly, who his father was), I would greatly appreciate it. You can contact me at: TwoTwilght@aol.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you again,
Cathy
Lucinda Lilley and William Calvin Sikes

Lucinda Lilley married William Calvin Sikes on November 17, 1859, in Copiah County, Mississippi. I have not been able to locate them in the 1860 census. William shows up in the 1870 Jefferson County census with two children: Charles Lee age 2 and an infant. In the 1880 Jefferson County census, Charles is 12, the infant -- Susan -- is 10, and there is a new daughter -- Lilly R who is 8. The 1880 census indicates that Charles is a widow. Lucinda's parents are William Lilley and Elizabeth Miller. I have not been able to verify that Lucinda is the mother for these children or locate a viable alternative.

Hi Scott.

My grandmother married a Lilley, she lives in KY.

Anyhow, I live in West Virginia. If you know where your relatives were from, perhaps I can be of assistance. I live in Huntington and the public library here has a huge geneaological collection of WVians.

Email me and let me know how I can help you :)
