Hi: I have figured out that my family is related through marriage to Job Lingham. My great great Aunt is Esther Campion who was Job's 2nd wife. She would have been Frederick's step-mother. I suspect the photo I have of Mrs. Lingham is Esther. I can certainly share the photos.

Hi,
F R Lingham was my husband's great grandfather. His daughter married a Lazier. We have spent a lot of time in Belleville researching the Lingham Lazier familys. My husband's aunt lived to be 103 and she was a great source of family lore.
I woulld like to share more info with you and if possible get a copy of your photos.
Thanks, Sharon

Hello Ann

Yes I have a copy of the 1911 census. I still haven't been able to find the marriage or Grace's birth.

I think the 5th child was George Charles W born in Canterbury 1900 and died in Blean 1901. The W is possibly Walter. Hetty's dad was Walter.

Best Wishes
Yvonne

Sorry I can't contact you as I have let my subcription lapse.
I don't have details of Benjamin's birth as I haven't been able to find him on BMD index, he was born in 1841, on the 1841 census he's listed as age 9 weeks and he could have been born in Kent or Sussex. Most of The family come from Crowhusrt/Hastings areas of Sussex. I have Henry's (1802) parents, Henry Lingham b.1776? Sussex and Elizabeth Starr b. 1778 Sussex. They married in 1801 Hastings, Sussex.

Hope to hear from you soon
Yvonne

I'm just trying to fill in other 'branches' of the tree so would love anything you have about the Linghams. Have you gone back further? All I have of Benjamin is b 1840, m Sarah 1860 and details from the 1861, 1871, 1881 census's. We are visiting the UK in about 18 months so I'm trying to come forward to find some living relatives but also would like to try to find graves to photograph. Is it easier for you to email me direct and is it ok to put my email on this site?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Ann Chaney
Hi Yvonne:
We have been in contact back in 2008 regarding this family. At that time you said you didn't think Frederick and Hetty had ever been married and that Hetty had had a daughter Grace prior to getting together with Frederick. In the 1911 census form they filled in it stated they had been married for 13 years and had had 5 children 1 deceased. I have only found 4 children for them. Kind regards, Ann

Not that I am aware of. However, Job Lingham sold property around Tweed in Hungerford Twp in Hastings County to my Vardy/Varty family. My gg grandfather was Job Lingham Vardy. I wonder if they named him that because Job Lingham was a friend of of Job Lingham's Vardy's farther. The original ancestor of my Varty/Vardy line was Thomas Varty born around 1740 in Cumbria Moreland England that was held captive in Albany New York around 1775 before escaping and coming to Canada.

Hello and VERY nice to hear from you! I am John Stumpf's g. grandaughter. (John Jr, Irene's brother) He died when my grandmother was very young so I know very little about this side of the family. Louisa Levinia Lingham (Stumpf)was married the John(Sr) but it appears they were divorce and she married a York??? I know she died a young age and is buried in the Lingham plot in Brooklyn. I am in contact with Doris, Irene's daughter from time to time. She had more info on this family than my grandmother did.

Was your father close with John sr or jr? Do you have any photos of the two of them? I have one photo of Louisa with young John (maybe about 7 yrs.) taken when John was sent to St. Johnsland in Long Island. It was a school/home for wayword children. I contacted them and today it is a hospital for Alzheimers but they still house the records from back them. The woman gave me all the info they had on young John Stumph...like who dropped him off, what diseases he had had before then, when he came and left...Not sure why he was there...just that he was. At the time that he was at the school, Irene was living with her grandmother, Levinia and g. grandmother Simons and some of Levinia's children. I would have to pull the census to see who.
Young John went on to join the Navy and then married Jennie Newell, my g. grandmother. They had 2 children and John died when my gram was 3 or so.

I have some pictures that have been sent to me over the years if you would like me to share with you. If you have any you would like to share I would be very greatful.

I am the nephew of Junis (Brutus) Lingham. My Father was John Theodore Lingham. There were Junis,George (who died at an early age from a horse kick to the stomach) My father, John Theodore, and Levinia. My great grandmother died well before my birth, but delivered my oldest brother Frank Whitloch Lingham. All I know about "Grandma Simons" is that she was German and could barely speak English. My father & John Stumpf were very close. My cousin Irene Bracht was John Stumpf's daughter. Her family lives in both CA. & GA. Would love to help you more.....Richard Lingham

Hi: The family that you mention, Henry Lingham and Delia Eldridge did have a son Stephen Lingham b. 1842 who I believe died in 1843. I have been collecting East Sussex Lingham information for quite a long time and have a list of them, but there is no Thomas or Stephen Langham b. 1865. The names Lingham and Langham seem to be interchangeable. If you would contact me direct perhaps I can help you. a-woodhouse@cox.net Kind regards, Ann Woodhouse

Hello. I am curious if there was some name change between Lingham and Langham. My great-grandfather was Thomas Stephen Langham (b. abt 1865) and I believe that his father were a Stephen Langham (b. abt 1844). And it appears that he was one of the youngest children to Henry Langham & Delia Elridge whom you mention. But primarily I see Henry listed as Lingham and not Langham whereas Stephen is only listed as Lingham in the 1861 census. Can you shed any light or am I confusing people?

Hi: I have just inherited a photo album with photos dating back to approx 1850. There are 4 photos from Belleville, Ontario labelled F. R. Lingham dated June 6 1878, Willie Lingham, Walt Lingham Christmas 1883, and Mrs. Lingham, Belleville, 1866. I have not figured out if these people are related to me yet but do any of the names ring a bell?

My ggg grandfather was a James Lingham who married a Frances Fullagar on the 21st May 1793 at Headcorn. Most interstingly the witness to their wedding was a Henry Lingham ( I have no other details - maybe a cousin or brother to James). After marrying they lived at Frittenden - near Headcorn. They had four childern Lyddy b.12.8.1798, Ann b. 14.6.1801, James b.7.2.1804 and Henry b.5.10.1806. Being that Headcorn is no more than 20 miles there maybe a tie up between the Bexhill/Hastings Linghams and my branch of the Lingham around the mid 1700's.

One of my ggrandmothers was a Lingham. I have a great deal of Lingham information regarding the Sussex Linghams and have taken them back to the early 1600s. I have quite a lot of information about Henry and Cordelia Lingham. Henry's parents were Henry Lingham and Elizabeth Starr who married in 1801 Hollington, Sx. Unfortunately I am not sure who this Henry's parents were. I do have some information about the Thomas Lingham who immigrated to the U.S. You can contact me direct a awoodhouse@cox.net.
Hi Barry:

Thanks for your email. During my Lingham searches I have come across Percy Edmund Lingham, but he doesn't appear to connect up with the different Lingham groups that am researching. There are 2 different Lingham groups in Kent. I think your Percy probaby belongs to the other group of Linghams from the Northfleet area.

I am considering beginning a one-name study of the name LINGHm so will keep note of your query.

Kind regards, Ann Woodhouse awoodhouse@cox.net

I am looking for information on the Lingham family from the Bronx and Broolyn NY. Possibly even Long Island area. My g.g.grandmother would be Louise or Louisa (Lingham) Stumpf. Her father was George W. Lingham. Louise also had brothers named George M, Junis and James Lingham. I am trying to find when and where they died and where they may be buried. Any info on this family would be greatly appreciated.

William/Lily Lingham

Like Ann Woodhouse, I have been researching my great aunt's LINGHAM family. Lily SURRY (b. 1870) married William Thomas LINGHAM (b.1861 Bexhill). With Ann's help, we have established at least three children: Elsie Lingham (b.1894, Salehurst); Doris (b. 1896, Newhaven); Wilfred (b. 1906, Bexhill).
On the 1901 census, William and family were living in Bexhill. Despite the family's wanderings, Bexhill seems to have been 'home base'.
Daughter Elsie married in 1915 in Wolverhampton to Edmund JAMES. This James family was living in the Wolverhampton through to at least 1934.

I am searching for Linghams in all of the above places.

John Lingham b 1753 married Sarah Dodge b 1765 Goudhurst, Kent. Some children stayed in Kent others moved to Broadwater, Worthing, Sussex and one child immigrated to Belleville, Ontario, Canada.

Some of the children from Bellville immigrated to Michigan, Ohio, and New York.

There is another branch in East Sussex who stayed in the Hastings, Bexhill, Beckley, Sedlescombe, Brede, Westfield, area.

I would like to hear from anyone who has a Lingham in their research. Some of the children have Lingham as a middle name.
