I'm Portuguese and my mother's family name is Lino, and so is my.

I'm from Southern Portugal which used to be a place with a strong Jewish connection. But that was centuries ago. Jordan doesn't seem to be a Portuguese name, could it be something else similar to Jordan?

Among some papers I have that are my grandmother's, I found a funeral program for her friend Alberta LaSaine Williams, daughter of James LaSaine and Katie Lino LaSaine, family from Georgetown, SC. (last name is spelled LaSane in census records). Alberta's husband was Herbert Williams. I did a blog post about Alberta that includes a link to the full obituary at

Yo soy la hermana de Pilar, en este momento no estoy en mi casa por eso no puedo preguntar bien, pero mi papa nacio en bolivia, mas exactamente en la frontera con argentina y ya hace como treinta años que se naturalizo argentino. Lo unico que podria decirte es que su papa vivia desde chico en bolivia pero no se si nacio alla y por lo que tengo entendido, vinieron de españa o de portugal.

my friends grand father name is jose cabrera lino he is from mexico in a town i cant say or spell .he had one brother younger . mom married and changed last name from hernandez to lino back then it was looked down on to have 2 babys daddys.they moved to texas i do know he fathered a child in texas but was forbiden to see him it was a boy

HA sido toda tu familia (abuelos, bisabuelos...etc) siempre de argentina o ellos llegaron desde otra parte?

Mi abuelo llego a chile de 4 años......en un acto desesperdado du madre y su padre lo pusieron junto a su hermana en un barco y lo enviaron en un largo viaje....asi fue como llego a chile y estoy intentado averiguar desde donde zarpo aquel barco. Mi abuelo nunca recordo el nombre de sus padres o el dia de su cumpleaños.....ni de donde vino el barco.

Probably you can help me......My granfather arrived to southamerica (at the ages of 4 years) with her sister ( at the age of 5 years).

The only that they knows is that their parents, in an desperate act (protecting them from somethings) put them in a ship with a lot of bags.....the last memory it was their mother and their father crying saying goodbye....and a really long trip.

My granfa never knows his birthdays, he never can remember the name of his parents and from where he from.......

His name was Tomas Lino Jordan.

Tomas : Name
Lino : father family name
Jordan : mother family name

Someone told me once ago that Lino and Jordan are from Portugal and particularly Jordan comes from a portuguese city where live a lot of jewish people....

Do you have portuguese contact that can help me???

Nice to hear a response! My great grandfather's name was Santo Lino and he moved to NYC. He had seven children, five girls and two boys, and one of those two boys was Alfonso Lino, my grandfather. I'm just curious if our lines are connected? Any of these names sound familiar?

I just married into the Lino family. My father-in law, David Lino is of Portuguese descent and immigrated to Houston, TX from South Africa. I am just getting started on the whole genealogy thing and could use any helpful info anyone has. His father was Honoratu Nuench Lino.

My great-Aunt Paula Lino born in 1882
had several children in Morenci.

Jose Lino Mar 19 1902
Manuela Lino July 11 1903
Several years later they moved to Mesilla, New Mexico. In Mesilla, Paula #1 married Anthony Chavez and lived last in Yuma, AZ. Paula #1 grandchildren (Paula's nieces and nephews) live in Los Angeles.
ALso, Paula #1 had a sister named Pilar and father named Leandro (buried in Morenci). I know of two brothers name Nicanor and Pablo.
Do you think there is a connection?

I am of Portuguese ancestory and have no known Italian relatives or history. We immigrated from Portugal in 1968 to Bridgeport Connecticut. Grandparent's name is Francisco and Maria Lino of Chaves, Portugal. She is deceased, he is alive at age 88 and living in Hudson, Massachusetts. Would really like to know of any other Lino's from Portugal, particularly from the North-central area of the country.
