Hi Betty, I suppose we should discuss this on a Jones list, but do you know if Rebecca Jones is the daughter of "Devil John" Jones and if you have any info on her parents' final resting place, I would appreciate it.

Debbie, I think that you and my hubby are first cousins and I used to email back and forth with your mom.

I want so badly to do more genealogy than I am doing right now, but my two kids have a schedule that is keeping me hopping. I will give you all an update from memory...I probably should finish reading this thread, because someone may have addressed all of this already. There were two Calvin Lintons; one died for the Confederacy and one died on the Union side during the Civil War, unfortunately. I accidentally ended up with responsibility for the Union Calvin (long story) at findagrave and so if anyone here has that Calvin in their line, please let me know and I can transfer that site to them. Our Calvin died in a Prisoner of War camp in the Chicago area, and it is not a good story, but worth reading about that camp online when you get a chance. Here is our Calvin's findagrave site: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=li...;. The elder Lintons lost more than one son to the war.

We tried to get as close to the Hillary Linton homestead as possible a couple of months ago, but it is hidden behind a ridge. We never seem to be able to get to the area when libraries, etc., are open.

I can't do this right now, but if anyone wants to help with this little project and you can send me an email in about a month, I MAY have a tin-type of Calvin and Susan's wedding. I have analyzed an older photo of Susan Aiken, and I believe this younger photo to be her. I have to tell you, folks, I cannot absolutely be certain, so if anyone wants to help me on that, it would be great. The tintype was in a box with my FILs families, and I have looked at the age and the grandparents of that time, and it looks the most like Susan. I don't really want the photo to be published on a site somewhere because I cannot be 100 percent certain it is them.

Also, if anyone has anything on Susan's parents, it would be greatly appreciated, because so far I am lost there.

And finally, for now, we did visit the cemetery where Henderson is buried:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=li...;.

It is not far from Hillary's (Henry's) and Rebecca's (Bekey's) homestead, and I really feel the two tombstones that are broken off are probably Hillary's and Rebecca's. They are in the same plot. I saw a site somewhere where someone else (independently) arrived at the same conclusion. Unfortunately, the church was closed when we were there. I will try to remember to call them and see if they have records for the cemetery. Here is Henderson Linton's site:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=li...;

I will talk to you all when the frenzy of the end of the school years is over, Linton cousins...thanks!
hi Clyn... been looking for family records, and I'm Mark Linton from London. My Fathers' name was Donald George Linton from St.Ann (Glasgow district). He had 2 sons that I know of in Jamaica, and he emigrated to the UK in 1951, He had a brother called Noel who died in the UK. Their Mothers' name was Miriam. I think Donalds' parents eventually moved to St. Dacre.

Any information would be a great help, and you can email me at lintonworx@gmail.com

if I can help in any way, let me know...

Sincerely

Mark

Linton Alabama/Louisiana line

George & Jeff Linton, sons of Julia Ann & James Linton from Butler/Pike/Crenshaw Alabama relocated to Bienville Parish, LA to join their Uncle Polk Myrick (brother of Julia Ann Linton). If you have info on this connection or the info below, please contact me or post.

I'm searching for info on Julia Ann Myrick-Linton's mother ‘Hallie Ann Measles’ born 1822 in Georgia, married John Myrick ca. 1837 in Sumter County, Georgia. Listed on Sumter Co, GA 1850 census as “Steff Myrick” and on Pike Co, AL 1860 census as “Aloof Mirick.” I feel that errors may have led to the spellings of Steff and Aloof, and her name is probably Aliff or this is short for Elizabeth. Elsewhere documented as Hallie Ann Measles, and I feel that her full name may have possibly been ‘Elizabeth Aliff Ann Measles’ or similar.

Notable is that William and Mary Measels are listed in Pike County, AL census records. Also notable is that John and Hallie Myrick had a son ‘Polk Owen Myrick’ who died in Bienville Parish, LA where other Measles family are also located on census records. My hunch is that ‘Hallie Ann Measles’ is Elizabeth Measles, daughter of William and Mary Love Mizell.

Per notes from Rootsweb on ‘Polk O. Myrick,” son of John Myrick and grandson of Henry Myrick referring to “Hallie Measles” as having a brother named William in Houston County, GA:

“… the letter found in Grandmother Carrie's [Huckabay - married to Polk O. Myrick] trunk by Uncle Myron Morell Myrick … written June 6, 1872 at Toomsboro, Wilkerson County, Georgia, to his sisters and brother living in Alabama.” [from Eli Lumpkin Myrick]…. “He also said that Uncle William lived in Ft. Valley, Houston County, (now Peach County), Georgia. Don't know whether he is a Myrick or his mother's brother.” [ - - Eli Myrick had an uncle named William Myrick, and ‘Hallie Measles’ had a brother named ‘William Measles.’]

Found at: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op...

Researchers/administrators… correct me if I’m wrong on this & please offer any suggestions.
Thanks,
S.E.

Believe my Laura Corella Purcell (b. 1952 d. 1941)daughter of Pendleton Purcell and Martha Moran is connected with this family. Laura has two brothers-John b. 1848 and Linton b. 1850 in Mercer/Washington County KY area. After death of her mother and father, the children were sent to live with relatives. In 1870, Laura Pursell(16 yrs.)is listed with the Linton and Sarah Moran family in Washington County. Her brother Linton is living next door with the Larkin Casey family. No sign of John. In 1860, she and her brother Linton are living with a Samuel Montgomery family. John is living with another family. Laura married Edward Green Borders and by 1880 is in Springfield Ky in a household with him and a few children. Would like to seeif there is a connection.

Hi David - my great grandfather was James Henry Linton who was a sea captain and settled in Nelson. He was born in England in 1845. Married Lydia Jane Frost in Nelson 1884. I have been trying to find out where in England he was born and when he arrived in Nelson but it is proving rather difficult!

Maxine, I have a connection to the Linton /Foye Line in England. When you mention Grandma Foye are your refering to Teresa Mary Foye b. 1834 at Wigan Lancashire. Some of her children moved to Aussie under the Linton name. She married Edward Linton in 1859.
Other names in my file include Back,Desmond,Olson,Roberts, Butler.

Could you email me off line and perhaps sort any connections out.

davey.gravey@sympatico.ca

Thanks,
Dave
Canada

Michael I have just found you by accident. Your father Raymond is my cousin, as is his sister Narelle. My mum is Jack's sister Elizabeth who was married to Walter MacDonald and they lived in Port Kembla most of their lives. I remember your dad and grandparents very well. Aunty Jean was a real character with a great sense of fun. I really would like to find out more about Grandma Foye, Mary Jane Graham who married William John and came out on the Ortona in 1908. No-one seems to get to her parents. I know she had a sister Elizabeth in Scotland. When I was in the UK I went to see the church where Mary Jane and William (Scotty) married, and also went to Bellshill. If you have anything to share I'd love tohear from you.

If he's from the Thomas county area, he's probably from the Edward Linton line that migrated to Thomas County from Abbeville County, SC.

Can you provide approximate birthdates for your family members. The names William, Benjamin and Thomas are repeated in most generations of this Linton family, so additional information would help pinpoint which man is your ancestor.

I am not certain of the relatioship between Frank and Lucy Johnson Linton, but my family is from the Tallahassee, FL/Beachton, GA area and I had often heard my father(Ben Linton) speak of having relatives in the ares which you named. However, he said that he did not know them.
My family stems from Will Linton(grandfather) married to Mary Mitchell Linton(grandmother). My father had several brothers and sisters(Tom, Will, Lenola, Lena, Susie, James, Howard,Herman, Albert Linton and Willie Kenner(the oldest daughter) and my father, Ben.
Most of my brothers and sisters still live in Thomasville,GA and I think their are some relatives who live in or near Coolidge, Boston and that area of Southwest GA.

Grandfather Will Linton

I am interested to find any information of what happened to my grandfather, Will Linton of Grady County Georgia/Cairo. He was married to Mary Mitchell Linton with a half-sister named Fronia Mitchell Cromartie. Mary and Will were; as far as I know married and sired several children. They include: my father; Ben Linton, Sr., Susie Linton, Tom Linton, Howard Linton, Albert Linton, Lena Linton, and others were all siblings who grew up knowing their father, however, he disappeared never to be heard from again.
It has always puzzled me as well as the rest of the family as to why this abrupt departure occurred and what happened to him after having such a large family with my grandmother, Mary Mitchell Linton.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts after leaving the Thomasvile, GA/Beachton, GA/ Cairo, GA (1900-1920) area or where his remains might be interred, I would appreciate any bit of information which could aid in solving this.

Hello David, I have some Linton ancestors starting with a Robert Linton who first appears in Liverpool England at the birth of his first child in 1796. he went on to have a total of 9 children. Some of these I have been able to trace, other not however at least two members of this family , later generations, emigrated to Australia. There is a possibility that members of my Lintons who have not been traced may be somehow connected.
Good luck and please keep us informed via this site for further developments
Dave D.

Hi Supergran. My name is David Linton and I only have a little family detail at this stage and would love to learn more if you can help. My Great grandfather was from England, worked as a Sea Captain and settled in Nelson in the early 1900's. I would appreciate any help you may be able to offer. Thank you.

Hi,
My great-grandmother was Mary D. Linton, born in Concordia, Cloud Co, Kansas 12 May 1875.She married my great-grandfather, Walter Howard Hannah 25 March, 1895 in Willsey Morris, Kansas. Thus the Linton name was lost to the Hannahs, who had only one child, Vera Philemon Hannah, who further confused things by marrying John Batzner Shinkle, in Kansas, 1919.

Her parents, John A. Linton was from Maine; his wife, Mary D. maiden name as yet undiscovered, was 'From Canada', where her father was born as well. What part of Canada, computer doesn't say.
There is a family legend that Mary D. the first 'spoke only French'. I do not believe this is necessarily the case, but it's an interesting tidbit.
Does this fit in with any of your work?

Cheers

Elizabeth Sheldon Holmans, direct descendent of Mary D. (Kansas) and John A. Linton, born in Maine in 1842. And a 13th cousin once removed from the Towne sisters, who were hanged in Salem, Mass for witchcraft. Rebecca Nurse is the most well known, but I'm descended from brother Edward. Whew!
