Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) was born 18 June 1870 in TN (probably Carter Co.) and died around 1898. She was one of 12 children. Logan was listed as widowed in 1900 census. They were married 15 Aug. 1891 in Carter Co., TN.

They had 4 children (2 sons and 2 daughters).

Linville Family History from c1618 Sussex, England

This is Dr. Alice Eichholz checking into this discussion forum, finally! No, I am not retired, yet, and I have continued to do research on our Linville ancestors. I am trying to make more time, every week, to spend on Linville work.
To date, I have added updated Chapters 1 and 2 of Linville Family in America and Linville Roots newsletters that I did in the 1980s-1990s and a number of original documents from England to the MyFamily.com Linville site. It is a private site, but any Linvilles who are interested can obtained access to it by emailing either me (research@newtrails.org) or Mike Linville (mikelgenes@yahoo.com). We maintain The Master Genealogist database of the family.
I have decided to not yet post it on the Internet for open access because too many people have used speculative data that I wrote over the years (from 1970-1990s) as fact and there is a LOT of wrong or misleading data out there as a result.
Until I was more certain that we had the right connections in the early generations, I did not want to confuse things more. However, I have now verified the first three generations and am working on a confirmed, documented genealogy that will also be posted on the MyFamily.com Linville site.
One of the major projects that still needs work is our DNA project. It will help, considerably, verify the fourth and fifth generations of the family where there is a very slim paper trail. If you are a male with the surname Linville, PLEASE consider participating in FamilyTreeDNA Linville surname project. To date, we have been able to confirm most, but not all, of the relationships back to these first three generations. We need more lines of males Linvilles (women, get your brothers, fathers, uncles, etc. to participate!) to clarify that fourth and fifth generation in the U.S. AND to help get the ancestry back further than the seacoast of southeastern England.
So, ask questions here, join the MyFamily site, and get those DNA samples in(it is an easy swab from inside your mouth, and not all that expensive)!

And more of all celebrate being a Linville -- whether by birth, adoption or whatever!
Alice Eichholz, Ph.D., CG
research@newtrails.org

In addition, since we loaded the book contents into a genealogy database (probably 20+ years ago), there has been a significant amount of additional information added. Much of the book contents are still valid but there have been some major corrections in places as well as much additional information. What specifically are you looking for - see if I can help....

I am looking for my grandmother, Alice (Allie) Linnville. She married Daniel Ford, lived in Grady Oklahoma, had 8 Children including my mother Elizabeth ford Russell. I know she had a sister, Mattie who married Eliot White. I believe mattie was born in 1863 (Not sure) and died in 1917. Alice was born in 1886 and died sometime after 1919. I am unable to find any other family members for either of them. They are said to be burried next to each other in the Bradly Cemetary, Grady Co. Oklahoma. I was able to find mattie but all 4 sides next to mattie did not have a headston or any other markings. But my Uncle, Tom Ford, claimed he knew they were togeather even tho he was about 2 years old when alice died. Can you help Me?

We have the Worley linville that is the father of Martha and Eleanor in our Linville database. Worley was actually born in NC in 1785. Moved to KY and then to AL (Randolph Co. area). Martha and Eleanor were born in KY. We have the same child count for both ladies ....

Thank you for your reply to my query. Just last night I entered the children of James and Sarah (Cole) Linville on to "My Profile" in my "Pedigree View Chart" and I noticed the name Willam Isom. I had never heard the name Isom before and wondered if it was a family name. I have the wife and wedding date and place but don't have his death date. Yes, I have three different editions of Alice Eicholz. I went to a 300 year Linville reunion that she planned. It was in Media, Pa. in 1982. No, I am not a member of myfamily.com. I just joined Ancestry.com and don't know how to share my family tree and write queries about other names I'm searching for. For instance, do you know anything about the ancestors of Sarah Cole? Thanks again.

I am descended from William Isom Linville and Bethany Hedgepath. William and Bethany's son James Holland Linville married Elvira Jones. James and Elvira's daughter was Ida May Linville who married Alvin Hockett. Ida and Alvin were my great grandparents. The Linville family is so huge that I basically have kept to my direct line ancestors for entering in my database. Are you a member of the Linville family group at myfamily.com? And do you have the Linville family book by Alice Eicholz? I have both and there is a ton of info in them that I have used to fill out stories about the ancestors.

James and Sarah (Cole) Linville are my gg grandparents, too! I descended from their son Jasper Marion and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Groves ... and their daughter, Martha Isabel Linville, etc.... I, too, have been to the Groves cemetery a long time ago but hope to go back again. The cemetery land was donated by Hiram Groves, father of Mary Elizabeth Groves. I would love to share whatever with you. From which son or daughter of James and Sarah did you descend? Hoping to hear from you, Mildred Ramsower

This book was published in 1982 and there are no copies left for purchase unless you can find a current owner who wishes to get rid of a copy. I will mention that there has been considerable subsequent research that has changed some of what was in the 1982 book and added much new information. All of the 1982 book genealogy data was converted to an electronic format where it has subsequently been maintained. Initial attempts to make this information available on the Internet seemed to cause more problems then it solved. Many extracted parts of the info and added their own version of the data and then published it as the truth. We were spending more time dealing with incorrect information that was claimed to have been extracted from the master copy then working on new additions so we gave that approach until we had a better idea. If you have a particular part of the Linville information in which you are interested, I an willing to work with you....

We have converted all of the genealogy contents to an elctronic version that the author and I maintain and update as we get new information. I am more than happy to look up your branch of the family and share what we might have.

The Linville family from around St. Joseph MO had a persistant story about a relative born in the early nineteenth century nicknamed "Blackhawk". He supposedly served in the Blackhawk Indian War and due to his age fought as an "irregular" bushwacker in the Civil War. Has anyone else heard of this individual? He was possibly named Joseph.
