The Lipan Reunion is held each Fall, either late August or early September in Wyoming County, PA. I don't have an exact time or date. But I will try to make contact with some members of the family and if I can learn more precise information I'll post it.

Thank you so much for your information. When I have more information, I'll pass it on to you. FYI - I live in Bozeman, MT but visit Michigan frequently as my mother is still in Bay City as well as most of the Smith family. My mother's brother Robert is still alive, Elaine passed away however, I can not remember the date and there is another sister, Jean, whom I don't know much info. Thanks again - Chris

Hello, Christina,
Good to hear from a fifth generation Leipham / Lipan descendant!

I checked my Leipham / Lipan genealogy blue book and found your line on pages 43 and 44. There is a copy of the obituary of Margaret Ellen Lipan Munley on page 44: [My notes are in brackets. Handwritten notation on page 44 for Margaret Ellen Lipan is d(ied). 4, 23, '30].

Munley - Mrs. Margaret Munley, of Cass avenue, died early this morning at Mercy hospital after a lingering illness. She was born in 1872 [book says 15 Feb 1871] at Carrolton, being the eldest of 9 children of the former Benjamin [officially George B. Leipham / Lipan in the book] and Margaret [McLinden] Lipan of Twenty-second street*, of this city. She is survived by her husband Michael, one daughter, Mrs. T. E. [Thomas] Cavanaugh, and son, Gerald; four sisters, Mrs. M. J Hurley, Mrs. Mary Walsh, Mrs. Dennis Byrne and Mrs. A. J. Raschka, all of Detroit; and four brothers, Albert and Arthur of Bay City, Edward J. of Chicago and Leo of Detroit. Funeral services will be held from St. James church Saturday morning at nine o'clock, the Rev. Fr. John Troy officiating. Burial will be made in St. Patrick's cemetery.
* Book says George B. Lipan born at Russell Hill, Pa (Wyoming Co, PA) June 9, 1844 - handwritten date of death is April 3, 1927 were living at 405 22nd St, Bay City, MI
with son, Leo. Not sure if this obituary refers to Bay Ciy or Detroit, Michigan.

Regarding Thomas Cavanaugh records indicate that he was born 16 Oct 1895 at Bay City, MI. He and Mary Munley, born 28 Oct 1901 at Bay City, MI, were married 12 Oct 1921 at Bay City, MI. Listed are two children: Elaine Cavanaugh, b. Bay City Aug. 4, 1922 and Robert John Cavanaugh, born Bay City, April 24, 1926. Since the original blue book was compiled in 1927 your mother, Rita Anne [Cavanaugh] Smith was not yet born and thus her name does not appear.

I have enjoyed connecting via the internet with members of the Leipham / Lipan family from as far away as Seattle, Washington and North Carolina. The family has an annual reunion in early September back in the Wyoming County, Pennsylvania home area. They continue to work to update information on descendants of the original Leipham / Lipan family. My direct email address is rep1943@epix.net if you have any updated genealogy that you would wish to share with the Leipham family.

LIPAN, George B. born at Russell Hill, Wyoming Co, PA 1844 went to Bay City, Michigan.

George B. Leipham, born on 9 June 1844 at Russell Hill, Wyoming Co, PA was the son of Peter Leipham ((1791-1868) and his wife, Catherine Berger Leipham. His parents were born in Pirmasens, in Bavarian Rhine Palatinate. George B. Leipham was their eleventh child - but shown as the eighth line in the Leipham Genealogy. George B. Leipham went to Michigan in his early manhood, and was a pioneer lumberman and expert sawyer. He shortened his name to LIPAN and his descendants continue to write it Lipan. George B. Lipan died April 3, 1927. His wife was Margaret McLinden, born in Canada, Jan. 11, 1852. They were married Jan. 10, 1870 in Saginaw, Michigan. In 1927 the family resided at 405 22nd st, Bay City, Michigan.
