I just read your post and since it was posted in 2008 I do hope you receive it. I am very interested in helping you connect to Lish in SC.

My gggrandmother was a Lish she was the daughter of Wade Willis Lish and Clara Collins Lyshe. She was born in SC in the Town of Bennett Spring. Let me also add that I am African American and I have been researching the Lish family line in South Carolina since 1988.

I originally found them in the 1880 census as Lish and could not go back any further. A women by the name of Alane Rountree who is doing extensive research in SC, alerted me that they were in the 1870 census but their surname Ashley, same wife and children in both the 1870 and 1880 census.

There are only 2 families in Barnwell County that were Ashley in the 1870 census and change their name to Lishe in the 1880 census. I assume it is Willis's relative or brother Joe Lyshe. There are no other families listed as Lish in SC prior to 1870. I would like to know where the surname Lish Orginated and why did Willis and Joe use the name Lish. I'll try and get this info straight ,Here goes William Harrison Lish is my Grandpa,His father my Greatgrand father was John Samuel Lish ,His father was my great great grandfather William Lish which is your plain ol'William born 1822 Virginia, Death Rutherford Tenn 1857.I'll dig out my Lish notes of my family to get you the information and History on our Oklahoma Family. Sarah Lish - Killala, Co. Mayo, Ireland

My 5x Great Grandmother was Sarah Lish. She was a widow who married Jerimiah (Jeremiah) Lonegan/Lanagan on January 25, 1771 at Killala, Co. Mayo, Ireland.

The marriage record doesn't state whether Lish was her maiden or married name. She was living in Killala, Co. Mayo at the time of her marriage.

Anyone out there researching Lish in Co. Mayo, Ireland?

Reseaching Lish family in TN - AK - OK

I am researching the Lish family that for the most part stayed in middle TN by the way of Virginia.

Names include William Burton Lish, William Rufus Lish and just plain ol' William Lish [no middle name known][1822-1857] who I believe was born in Virginia and migrated to TN after being orphaned at around age 5 and bound to a John Kimbro to learn brickmason trade. I think his father may have been named Hezekiah? If anyone has any information about a Hezekiah [Ezehiah] Lish who may have originated in NJ prior to moving to VA, would love to hear from you.

I believe this Lish line is also kin to those in AK and OK, but not sure.

Hello Luann, Well I do believe we are kin!! Your grandfather was my uncle....my father was Jesse A Lish the older brother of Wilbur Lish. Your father, we called him Sonny, was the adopted son of Wilbur and Helen Lish. I do have some extensive research into this side of the Lish family if you are interested.

Julia Emma Lish and McClelland Harvey are my GG Grandparents. I'm not sure how many kids they had, but one was Waitman T. Harvey.

Mabel O. Lish was my Grandmother. She had an only daughter, Emma Lou who was my mother. She married my Grandad Thomas Snook in 1927, I think. My mother was born before she married my Grandfather. They had four sons, James who passed away in February 2007, Thomas who is stll alive and Robert (who passed away at birth) and Carl who passed away in the 1970's.

It was your father that came to Colorado to pick up my Grandmother and Uncle Carl (he went because he was so young) and transported them back to Oklahoma so that your grandfather could see all his children one last time before he passed away. During this time a picture was made of the family. If you do not have this picture I may be able to provide you with a copy.

My mother married Harold Wright after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. I am the eldest of eight children.

Hope this gives you some additional information about your family.

My Grandmother was Mabel Ola Lish-Snook
My Grandmother was married to a Thomas Snook
They Moved to Colorado in the early 1930's They Moved to Pagosa Springs by train then.
My Grandmother had a brother named Charles and a number of sisters.
My Mother married Harold Wright on December 22, 1941.
She passed away on July 20, 2004 in San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington New Mexico.

Hello, I found your post and thought I'd reply! My maiden name is Lish, my father's name was Jesse Alexander Lish, his father was William Burton Lish born in Nashville, TN. My father had a sister Mary Elizabeth Lish and one brother Wilbur Lish (all now deceased). My father's mother was Elizabether Odom also of Nashville. William Stockman's brother Benjamin Stockman Jr also mentions an Elizabeth Lish in following land record
Book DD, p. 172, 24 Jun 1809--Benjamin Stockman, Jr. of Pequanach Twp. to Peter Hyler for $200, 25 acres, land conveyed to Benjamin Stockman by Elizabeth Lish and her heirs. Wit. Robert H. McCarter and Edward Condict.

I am looking to connect with a member of each branch of all the different Lish families in the US. I would like to create a project to identify all the Lishes in different censuses and other documents to connect them with the right branches. I am from the Henry Lish/Elizabeth Landon - northern NJ branch. Believe there is the Joseph Lyons Lish/Harriet Tripp branch; another branch from northern NY state, a Kentucky branch, and possibly a southern (SC?) branch. Lish in South Carolina

I am looking for the surname connection of Lish that may have resided in South Carolina, specifically in the Barnwell County area or there about. The towns they may be associated with are Dunbarton, Williston, Blackville, Bennette Springs and Myer Mills. My gggrandfather was Willis Lish and his wife was Clara. Willis had a brother by the name of Joe Lish he was married to a Mariah Dunbar. Listed with Joe in the 1880 census along with his wife and children is Sarah( 55yrs.) his mother. I will assume that she is Willis' mother also.

This Lish family may have been slaves, in the 1870 census their surnames are listed as Ashley.

I have poured through the census I have not found any other Lish in South Carolina except in 1790 a Mary Mack Lish in Charleston, SC and in 1860 3 male Lish living in Lancaster.

Need some help.
