lisle family

I have an ancstor (grandmother down the line) who was born about 1820 in Tweedmouth to a George Lisle and mother Joanna or joan laidler. They lived in Newcastle Upon Tyne in Northumberland England. I have been trying to find her baptism record in Berwickshire records but can't find the family at all. I am not sure where to look and would greatly appreciate any advice on where to find Baptism records for this area please.

Many thanks
This is the same Callie Isles. I have several newspaper articles on the death of some of her children and on her husband Wesley Sewell, but haave been unable to locate a death notice in the paper for Callie. The cemetery where Callie is buried has a bricked area with the name Sewell, but there are no grave makers left.
I am excited to find someone doing research on this family. Wesley is still an unknown. He is believed to be native American, and part of the family claimed he was "Black Dutch".

I am so glad to find someone that descends from Callie. If she is the same Caroline Lisle that I have been searching for all these years, thank you , thank you. Do you have any records showing her parents just to be sure she is the same one. On the 1870 Georgia census she is with her Mother, Mary AE Rogers Lisle and her siblings. The last name was misspelled which made it difficult to find the family. The Henry is my GGGrandfather Joshua Henry Lisle. Please check the information on our database http://ourfamilyancestors.com and let me know if your Callie is the same person. I have additional information from handwritten notes in the family bible but could never figure out who Callie married. Hope to hear from you soon.
1870 Census shows
Lyle, Mary	49/F/W Keeping House	GA
William	22/M/W
Jessee	20/M/W
Caroline	18/F/W
Mary	15/F/W
Henry	12/M/W
Jefferson	11/M/W
Aylworth or Ayleworth of Polstlow or Polstloe, Devon 1550-1650

I have John Aylworth Esq (b. by 1516, d.28/12/1575) of London and Polstlow/Poslewe married Elizabeth (d.10/2/1564) dau. & heiress of - Ashton.

John Aylworth was an esquire of the body to Anne of Cleves and MP for Wells in 1547, 1553, 1558, 1559, 1563, 1571 and 1572.

According to various websites they had 5 or 6 sons and one daughter.

One of the sons was Ashton Aylworth.

The daughter was Frances (b.c.1556-d.4/7/1605) - she married 3/3/1584 Sir Thomas Reynell of East Ogwell as his first wife.

Now my challenge is how to connect the above to John Aylworth of Polstlow, a Barrister of the Middle Temple whose daughter Elizabeth (bur.1687 at Evenly) - she married William Isle by licence dated 9/12/1661. He was of Evenley in Northamptonshire, MP for Brackley 1659-60 & 1679 & 1681, and JP for Northamptonshire 1689 until his death in 1716.

It seems logical that this John Aylworth was grandson or great grandson of the first John Aylworth that I mentioned - can anyone help me make the connection, please?

Many thanks,
Caspar
Janet,
As we understand it your Andrew (b1837) who married Charlotte Owens, was a son of James (b1786), a child of George (b1752) and Cristian Longlands. James (b1786) we understand had two brothers, John (b1791) of whom we haven't found any info, and Alexander (b1783) who married Cecilia Wilson (b prob 1880/1881). This couple with six children, and two cousins (James's children ) one of whom was called Margaret (later married Marquand) sailed to Australia together.
Two daughters of Alexander and Cecilia , Jane Lyell (b 1831/d 1878) and later Alison (b1840/D1932) married George Simpson, Russell's great grandparents were George and Jane Simpson (nee Lyell).

We apologise as we thought we had replied earlier, however we cannot find a reply on this message board.

Our email is boongara@bigpond.com , if you wish to follow up.

Russell Simpson

Not sure if this is helpful but this is what I have.

On 9/5/1891 John William Lawton (Furnaceman, 24) married Charlotte Lawton (unemployed, 26) in Pudsey (Richardshaw) St Pauls Parish Church.

Albert Lisle born in 1894 was the son of the above. Witness to the wedding was Boaz Lisle (my grandads, Grandad).

It also states that Charlottes father was Samual Lawton, a Boilermaker.

So it looks like my Great grandfather was Johns brother and witness to the wedding - Albert died a couple of years before my Grandad (also Albert) was born. I believe that my Grandads mum (he doesnt know who his father was as his mother died with him in her arms when he was 2) was obviously Alberts niece and must have been close as my Grandad was named after him.

My grandad was born in the street next to where Albert Senior lived (and died), and with a name like Lisle I think this is very much the way it was.

Interesting that you have a name change, but all the bits fit together and Lisle is a very rare name, and to know they all lived very close is convincing. All the Lisle's in Leeds are my relatives (not many left, hense why my first name is Lisle), the furthest I can trace back is, Richard Lisle 1786 from Durham, then in Yorkshire.

If you want to email more please feel free - lislewallace at gmail dot com

Hi there

I no longer have an Ancestry subscription so can't access any of the information you have added to their files. The Albert Lisle in my family was born in 1894, the son of John William Lisle and Charlotte Lawton Lisle. Does this match with anything in your tree?

Since I wrote my original note I have discovered that my grandmother, Frances Louisa Lawton, was not a Lawton at all - her father was named Charles Hughes. Her family tree is more of a shrub than a tree! Her mother married Samuel Lawton and had a number of children then, after Samuel died, she married his brother David. That marriage didn't last - due in part, I suspect, to my grand-mother's arrival.

I'm still interested in tracking down the Lawton daughters' families but more from the point of view of "Does anyone know who Charles Hughes was?"

Evelyn

My Grandad is still alive as is my Grandma, and can't believe that the name Lisle has many differing families from that area.

I have a good history of his mothers side (father unknown), if you are interested.

Chris,
John Lisle and Alice nee Beconshawe had some 11 children, 3 males 8 females. All the males lived long enough to be married, and certainly one son John was married, to Catherine Crook, who in turn had one surviving son Charles Crook Lisle.
My grandmother was a Lisle descended from the (originally) Isle of Wight Lisles.

Regards,
Mike

I know there are a lot of Hartnells from Taunton, Somerset, but my Hartnell line was in Dorset since the mid 1690's, so it doesn't sound like we are connected. I don't know where they were before the 1690's; they appear in Bradford Peverell baptism records for 3 children, after which they relocated to Winfrith Newburgh, Dorset. Eventually one branch of descendants made their way to Southampton, but it doesn't look like your Elizabeth is one of mine. Thanks for the reply anyway.

There is the possibility of a connection to my Hartnell family. Do you know the parentage of Elizabeth in your: "___2. Ernest Augustus LISLE (1831) m. Elizabeth HARTNELL" ?? My Hartnells were Dorset people, but one particular branch ended up in Southampton. Would love to discuss further if we can make a connection, as I am writing a genealogical history of the Hartnell family.
One of the winesses was Charles Pargent. Her father was Charles Pargent (I am assuming he was the witness) and is listed as a Gentleman on the marriage certificate. Frederick and Sarah proceeded to have 4 children. If you think this is your family, please let me know as I do have some additional information which I am happy to share. Good luck.

Hi Margaret, thank you for your message. I too am descended from Eleanor Bell Moor and James Lisle. They were my great grandparents. Where does your mother in law fit in? Eleanor and James had three sons and my line is via Thomas born 1878. He married Agnes Beddoes in 1900 and they had six children, the youngest was Frank born in 1916, my father. He died in 1986.
I have done lots of work on the family and made contact with some of the offspring from the brother William (of the three boys). I would love to know more about your mother in law's side of the family. And I'd love copies of any old photos if you have any.
Are you on genes reunited? My tree is up there. I think I have some info on ancestry.com but no so much. Let me know if you would like all my info. I go back with the Lisles to about 1760 but then it gets very sketchy.
if you google rebecca lisle you will get my email. Don't want to put it here for spam reasons. best wishes, rebecca

I know it's some time since this was posted but my mother-in-law is the great grand-daughter of James Lisleand Eleanor Bell Moor, if that is of any interest.
