My husbands family also come from Bristol as a direct descendant of Thomas Lismore mentioned in your post, as far as I can tell over a good few years of searching all the Bristol Lismores seem to have come from Thomas and his offspring. What would you like to know?

Hello, Thanks for your interest. My branch of Lismore are not Irish, as located in Bristol in the 19th century at least. According to family tradition, actually the last name was Loosemore, or Luxmore, changed to Lismore.
I'm trying to find information on Thomas Lismore and wife Mary Gunston or Gunstone, to find out if Thomas was or wasn't the father of Joseph Lismore (born 1847), wife Ellen Ryan, the only ancestors I'm really sure of as according to family tradition the eldest son was always called Joseph. Would appreciate any information you might care to give me.
I had a brief contact with a Canadian member of ancestry who mentioned the name O'Callaghan.

Irish Lismores were said to be a bastard line of the earl of Lismore near Waterford whose family name was O'callaghan, have limited info on Thomas b 1801 who married Mary gunstone

Dear Troy,
The black Lissimore ancestry is easier to trace thanks to FamilySearch (beta)which gives Colorado Lissimore born 03 Feb 1893 and died Hillsborough, Florida March 1974 aged 81.
Although he died as Lissimore this is not necessarily the spelling by which he appears in the US Census collection.
1910: Calarada Lissimore aged 18 born Georgia.
1920: Colorado Lismone aged 28 married to Mary Oats with 3 children.

Dear Nelson,
I am interested in how far back you have managed to get.
The black Lissimore branch used many spelling variations such as Lissamore and Lizzamore and were in the southern states of the USA as early as 1810.
I believe they originated from a slave supervisor of this name who originated in the East Anglian region of the UK.

I have always wondered if my Lismores/Lizmores were connected to the Lismores in Bristol. My Lismores go back to around 1795 in Middlesex but they swore they were Irish and the name was originally O'Callaghan. I was hoping that your Thomas was a brother or cousin of my Joseph.

I am interested in how you possibly made the jump from Lismore to O`Callahan?
There is of course a place named Lismore in County Waterford, Ireland with a famous castle but that does not mean that all Lismores came from there as there are in this world nine other places named Lismore most of which were named after the Lismore island in Loch Linne, near Oban in Scotland.

There are currently 4 distinct families using the Lissimore spelling variation. You belong to the Southern USA States group which were probably named after their slave owner named Lizamore, which is a spelling variation peculiar to the East Anglian region of England, United Kingdom.

Sarah Maria Lissemore married Abraham Battersby in 1870.
Abraham (son of Thomas) was aged 16 and living with his widowed mother Ann in 1861. Sarah Maria was the daughter of William Lissimore (1827 - 1861) and Caroline AKA Catherine nee Whitehouse who married Mark Reeves in 1863.

Hello, I found christening 30 march 1800 at St Philip &Jacob,Bristol,Gloucestershire,with names of father Thomas and mother Sara Mathews so I believe it's him.I was sent information on the 1861 census, where Joseph (the only ancestor I was a bit familiar with) his son appeared as a 14 year old, and that's how I found that Joseph's father was Thomas ( no family name for his mother Mary) and now his grandfather,also Thomas. Hi there, I also came upon your details in the same manner. Did you have any joy in your research? If so Id be real gratefull if you could help me:
My Father -Daniel, Joseph, Lismore- came from Dublin (Eire) from an area called "Smithfield" I believe. There were quite a lot of children although I only ever met a few (May, Kathleen and Michael). At his Funeral in 1989 I met a couple of chaps who were his Brothers and they were living in London (We have been raised in Manchester) UK. My Mother tells me that there were several bothers who went to live overseas and this is where my curiosity grows. Any help you can offer will be most appreciated.

Ive just seen your posting re William Lizzimore & wife Susan Butterfield m.1865. Your ancestor Mary Ann was their 4th child & my gt.grandad was their 7th child (10 children in all)!
I can go back 3 more generations on the Lizzimore side and 2 more on the Butterfields.

I have been researching my family and stumbled upon this message board. My family are descendants of Lizzimore, my great grandmother was Mary Ann who married Francis Stewart in 1901. Her father was William lizzimore and her mother susan butterfield and they married in 1865. Cannot seem to trace records for william lizzimore birth. 1891 census says he was born in ipswich, suffolk. can anyone help?

I have undertaken extensive research on Lizmore / Lismore, particularly in respect of those that were from Brentford, West London and then in Dartford, Kent and SE Essex. This includes the large contingent that emigrated from Essex to Ontario, Canada. There has always been great speculation that prior to being in Brentford the family originated from Ireland, however I am yet to see any hard facts that supported this ! !

I would like to hear from you if you are able to link into any of the areas above.

Good to note that you are still there. I trust you are also continuing to seek connections associated with the name "LISSIMORE," that seems to have a number of derivatives of which the name might also be a derivative. At last count, there were at least 45 name spellings that easily qualify. Anyway, it is difficult to really know who we are and where the name and or various ancestors came from unless there is shared information. Without that kind of cooperation, we are simply going in circles.

Thanks for writing and showing interest in the Lissimore Family. Actually, you happen to be one of only a few persons to respond to the message I posted a year or so ago. Your question is an honest one, since there are several families of Lissimores. When I attended public school in Valdosta, Georgia, I attended school in the same grade with another Lissimore. His name was John Lissimore and my name is John Lissimore. The clue you gave, in determining whether or not we are related, is your mention of the name "Hansel." The "Handel" or "Hansel" that I am familiar with was blind but was a great piano player. His name is inscribed in the cornerstone of Fountain Hall, at Morris Brown College (Atlanta, Georgia). I was proud to know that and often went by that location whenever I was having a hard time with some college subject. If this is the same person, then we are definitely related. If not, we may still be related. We simply need to know more about each other's family history.

By the way, let me encourage to continue doing research on the Lissimore Family. I encourage this because without young persons such as yourself learning who we are, we will never know.who we really are. So, keep on keeping on, ok? And, holler back!
