Here is an application of a grandson of Robert Hart Littell (b. 1824) named William Catlett Littell to be a Son of the American Revolution. This may be helpful: http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=sarmemberapps&...

I picked the Robert Hart Littell record because that seems to be a person that you know about. Open the image, and be sure to scroll through the surrounding images to get all of the details.

P.S. There are a lot of other applications for the SAR with information on different members of the Littell family. I hope this helps!

Thomas Eugene Littell

I have spent several weeks gathering information and I can finally verify the identity of this Thomas Eugene Littell. There are many sources ( I have hard copies and documentation for everything I am about to list) While I do not have the entire story and the search has not been easy, I think I can shed some light on why it has taken decades to find an answer.

First and foremost Thomas was born in Franklin county ohio June 3, 1933 at the Friends Rescue Home. (apparently a home for unwed mothers) There is no father listed for him. His mother was Cleo Geraldine Coffland of 856 Thomas Avenue, Columbus Ohio. Thomas was listed as illegimate.

In the 1930 Franklin County Columbus Census
Geraldine C Littell is living with Morris E Littell and his parents, William and Margaret.

Copied from their marriage license
Cleo Geraldine Coffland to Morris E. Littell April 24, 1926 The groom is 21 years of age on 3 day of Oct 1925 his residence is 1008 E Main Street Columbus Ohio. His place of birth is Columbus Ohio. His occupation is Trimmer. His father is Wm Morris Littell and his mothers maiden name is Margaret M Hellreigel. He has not previously been married. The bride is 21 years of age on 22 day of March 1926. Her residence is 892 E Spring St Columubus ohio. Her place of birth is Columbus Ohio. Her occupation is telephone operator. Her father's name is Enoch Coffland and her mothers maiden name is Pearl E. Gifford. She has not previously been married.

November 27, 1938 Columbus Dispatch page 6a obit
William Morris Littell, age 69, survived by wife, Margaret, one son, Morris E., one brother Charles L., and one sister Sarah A. Goldsmith. Interment Eastlawn (no mention of grandchildren)

November 29, 1939 Morris E Littell married Marguerite Amelia Niesz in Monroe County Ohio.

Novemeber 26, 1958 Columbus Dispatch page 4a. obit
Margaret M Littell, 1088 East Main Street Columbus Ohio, age 75, survived by one son, Morris and two grandchildren. (This is Morris' mother-note the obit lists two grandchildren)

Morris E Littell obit Columbus Dispatch Feb 28, 1977
1088 East Main Street Columbus, age 71, survived by his wife Marguerite, son Robert and daughter Marguerite Fuqua, Irving Texas, 5 grandchildren.

I have not been able to locate Geraldine after her step fathers obit

E.F. Coffland Columbus Dispatch March 19, 1936
died at his home 6171 Grandview Ave, Avalon Hts, Pittsburgh Pa. He was a former Columbus resident. Surviving him are his wife, Mary Jane, 1 son, A. Eugene Coffland of Paraguay, 2 daughters, Gerrie and Dorothy of Columbus.

Geraldine's half brother Albert Eugene Coffland is listed on the 1930 Census in Lake County Illinois at the naval training station. age 20 born in ohio, father born in ohio, mother born in ky.

As you may know, it is the mother's DNA that is needed. Whether he is or is not a LITTELL is not relevent to this project. Further reseach is necessary on what happened to Geraldine Cleo Coffland Littell and perhaps her half siblings. Any connection to them may prove helpful.

It seems sad that he did not list any next of kin on his military file perhaps he did not feel as though he had any. He was given the name LITTELL at birth, we are his family.

POW/MIA Korean War LITTELL

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Franklin County, Ohio as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: THOMAS EUGENE LITTELL
Born: 3 June 1933
Date of loss: 15 Feb 1951 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Other children Conrad whomarried a Foster I think, or a Nichols.

Conrad died in San Diego about 1960 or 1990 depending on handwriting. Cyril died in Helena Mt in 1996, and his wife there in 2005 age 106.
I don't need information about them in the States, I'd love to learn more about them all before they came t USa.

Thank you
Barbara

If anyone is interested I have Littell's going back to England. I also have several surnames that are assoicated with my Littell's. They are Taylor, Tuffli, Wright, Seyfang, for a start.
Bertha Littell, married Edmund S Taylor, in England, they had several children. Edmund died in 1908 in England, and Bertha and children came to the states in 1910. They first settled I believe in WI, and then MN.
One of her sons Cyril Wright Taylor married my uncles oldest sister Magadaleana Tuffli of ND. They had 4 childre3n.

Good luck to all

Barbara

I'm looking for info on their children. I'm questioning an Albert Sidney and an Alfred Sidney. There is an Alfred Sidney listed on an 1881 census with the correct siblings. However, there is both and Alfred S. and and Sidney A. listed in the Pittsburgh City directory of 1898. Alfred S.'s address is the same as Elizabeth, Charles and William at 18 Arch. Sidney A is listed at 21 Arch. Is Sidney A a cousin, and if so, whom are his parents. I can't identify a male lineage at this time. I'm also looking for a death date for Charles and his correct middle name. Is it Pomfret, or Pomfrid, or Pumford?

According to gov't documents, a request by Nancy Warrington Oct 1 1855 in Hamilton Cnty, Ohio to obtain a land warrant on behalf of her grown daughter Charlotte Jane Warrington Turner states that she (Nancy) was the widow of Samuel Littell and had previously received a Land Warrant for 80 acres as his widow. Nancy was born 1791, her husband Samuel Littell died Apr 13, 1820 in Hamilton Cnty, she married William Warrington Feb 4 1836, & Warrington died May 25, 1851

Although this is not my lineage (I'm lineaged from his 2nd wife Leah Townsend), I thought it might be of some help.

Which libraries might have "Littell Family Histories and Genealogy" by Noble Littell." There must be a family connection between Squire Littell of Butler County Ohio and my wife's family also from the area? Her line is Winant Winans Littell, son? of James Littell and Mary Miller Winans. Winant married Hulda Noble, daughter of Anthony Noble. The family ended in Fithian, IL.

I am trying to track down who Oliver was exactly as my great grandfather used the name Hardin Littel for one of his sons. Do you know of an Oliver, maybe a brother of Hardin?
Hardin Heth Littell (the 2nd) was my grandfather on my father's side. He moved from Buffalo, N.Y. to Tucson, Az. in the early '70's with my grandmother, Jane (Goodyear) Littell. This is where I grew up and where my father still lives. Anything you would like to know I can help you with, all the way back to my ggrandfather Hardin Heth Littell (the first). I also have a few handwritten documents regarding the Heth line of the family.

William Littell, died in Fithian Illinois, circa 1910. He was married to Sarah Stearns. Oral tradition has William Littell being born in Middletown, Ohio (Butler County) around 1840. A brother was also living in the Fithian, Illinois area at William's death. William's daughter Maude moved and homesteaded in Flat Willow/Roundup Montana in 1910. Maude died at my mother's 16th year and therefore much family information was lost.
Where did your William live? I have a William Littell born 1745 in what was then Essex County, NJ, d. Sussex County, 1804. He married (1) Sarah Baker and (2) Sarah Drake. Another Wm. was b. 1759, m. Phoebe Meeker and d. in Sussex 1819. I don't have a complete list of their children but may be able to get one, if your Wm. lived in NJ. The first William Littell I mentioned lived as a boy on a farm in what is now Berkeley Heights, Union County, NJ. Part of the farm, with the c.1760 farmhouse and other buildings is a Museum listed on the NJ & National Registers of Historic Places. It is owned by the local government and operated by the Historical Society. The buildings need much work, and matching grant applications are underway. A tax-deductible contribution toward the match, check to the Historical Society of Berkeley Heights, mailed to Daniel Palladino, President Historical Society, Town Hall, 29 Park Ave., Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922, would be very helpful.
