Thanks Sherri! I added Alfred to list of children of Milton LITTLETON & Angelina ROSE. Milton had two older brothers that died before the age of one. Thomas J. LITTLETON (c.1851 - 14 May 1851) and William John LITTLETON* (21 Aug 1852 - 27 Sep 1852). Only their dates of death are listed on their headstones. They are both buried at the Saulsberry Cemetery in Aden, Carter County, Kentucky. {*Death Record gives "Wm" as name with George & Mary Ann LITTLETON as parents. However, headstone lists "John" as name with same date of death.} The cemetery is around the property where my paternal grandparents lived long, which was once property owned by William Jesse LITTLETON (my great-grandfather), who was nephew to George C. LITTLETON

Edward H littleton, also called "Hiram" or "Bud," was an alcoholic (like his father) and a petty criminal. He spent large sections of his life in prison. Two of the stints were because of arson and train robbery, but there were many more. Records from the Ohio Stte Penitentiary indicate he used many aliases. He was a very handsome man (I have some photos). He had a relationship with my grandmother, Lette Marie Light of Ashland, Ohio, but they were never married. That union produced two daughters - Virginia Mae Littleton and my mother, Elnora Jean Littleton. He was married later, but his wife died soon after. He died in Columbus Ohio in 1966.

Finney Littleton

While going over some old pictures that belonged to either my grandmother Emily Banks Smith or her mother Martha Pryor Herndon, I found two old pictures that obviously went together. On the back of one was written Finney Littleton. The photograph appeared to be from somewhere around the turn of the century give or take a few years nd had several young children about the ages of 10 or so. My greatgrandmother Martha is was probably the owner. She, to the best of my knowledge only traveled through Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas. I've done extensive research on our family but have never came across this family as being related. There is a family in Ozark , Missouri that lives very close to her and has a child name Phinie, who was two years old, and is probably a relative. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi, Mark
Like you, I'm a descendant of Jeremiah Holloway and Sydney Littleton and, by a strange coincidence, have spent the last week trying to work out who Thomas Littleton's (her father) parents were. There's a suggestion that he was the son of Sir Edward Littleton and Mary Walter, which is certainly plausible although so far I haven't managed to substantiate this. The IGI has a baptism entry for Sydney Littleton, daughter of Thomas and Hester, on 18 Oct 1629 in Mainstone, Shropshire. This Sydney seems a bit old to have married Jeremiah Holloway on 1 May 1668 in Bitterley. She'd have been 38 when she married, in her mid-50s when her last child was born and 95 when she died in 1724. There's a burial for a Sydney 'Liceston', daughter of Thomas, on 26 Dec 1629 in Mainstone. My hunch is that this is probably the same Sydney Littleton and that Liceston is a transcription error, and that Thomas and Hester's first daughter called Sydney died as a baby and they later re-used the name for a younger daughter who then went on to marry Jeremiah Holloway. The only snag with this theory is that I can't find a baptism for a younger Sydney.
If any Littleton experts can shed any light on Thomas's parentage (he was buried in Bitterley 2 Dec 1676) I'd be very interested to hear from them.

Regards, Julie
Great work Terry. I am Bill Spencer in Nashville, TN. The number is Robert's Navy service number. That is how I found him so fast through the Navy muster rolls that are on Ancestry. In WW-II they wore both the 'dog tags' most people are familiar with, plus a bracelet with their name and service number engraved. This one is sterling silver instead of the issue stainless steel hence a gift fron Connie.

I've had trouble finding some connections as well, but some recent additions to Ancestry helped me close some gaps. I'm still having the most trouble with my relatives in PA around Pine Grove and Reading.

Thanks for jumping on this so quickly.

Bill

I talked to his other living sister last night and she said the facts all sounded correct and he was in the Navy. She also said that he did have a gorlfriend names Connie. That's about as far as we went with that topic but we will be talking more.

She asked what kinf of bracelet it was? Doesn't the numbers you mentioned sound like a military ID or service number to you?

This is very interesting. Wonder if he just found it or they knew each other? Dear John letter and he threw it away? Who knows?

There are so many times I wish my father was living so I could ask him questions that I never even thought about when he was alive. I didn't get deep into this genealogy stuff until after he died in 96. I have worked for over 10 years trying to figure out the parents of my ggg gf. I even have a birth date and place but can't figure out his parents.

I also now have a new problem - THANKS HA HA
It seems that no one can find out what happened to the father of Robert and his sisters. One of the sisters has a son who is into the family genealogy so I should hear from him and Roberts daughters. I'll keep ya posted.

Can you e-mail me your name and where you live? tlturbo@aol.com

Terry

At least if it the same Connie they kept it in the family!

I'm also curious as to where he might have lost it, or with the Connie situation, maybe he threw it away!
Family of Robert W. Littleton, USN, WW-II

I have found an ID bracelet that says Robert W. Littleton 818-52-74 on the face and it has "Love Connie" engraved on the inside. The records available here on Ancestry show that he was stationed on the USS Coates, DE-685 in Jan 1944 and on Midway Island in Apr 1946. It says he enlisted in Philadelphia on 16 Sep 1943. This bracelet was in my father's things that I am sorting through and he was in the Pacific theater during WW-II so no idea where he picked it up. If I can locate a family member I would love to return it to its' proper place. Thanks

Hi,

I'm looking for descendents of Sarah C. Littleton, born 1866 and died after 1930 in Delaware. She was married, first, to Phillip McDowell (children: Charlie H./Annie M./Lena S./Harrison C.) and , second, to David R. Smith (children Harry J. Smith, born 1901) Harry was living with his mother and his half siblings in the 1920 and 1930 census after his father David died. Any help appreciated! Looking to see if Harry ever married.

Joni

It does appear that 3 of Milton & Angeline (Rose) Littleton's children married children of William & Mary (Justice) Owens. I have only been able to locate the 1870 and 1880 censuses for Angeline when she reside with her parents, Henry & Mahala (Gulley) Rose in Lewis County, Kentucky. I have no marriage record for Angeline Rose & Milton Littleton. ~Kevin

I have that George Carroll (1880-1928) married Cintha/Cindy Owens about 1899. Was her maiden name Justice instead of Owens? I don't have anything on Cintha other than that she had two children (Lack and Elva) with George. ~Kevin

Thanks Kevin,

This is not my family but I have a distant cousin that is a Littleton and her father left when she was a small child and she didn't know anything about that side of the family and asked if I could find her family history for them. Her name is Joanne Littleton Thompson and she lives in Ohio. I live in Fla so I had to rely on the internet to find my answers for her. I just sent her all the info that I have found and I think I just overwhelmed her. :-)

I did go by Milton's death and put John has his first name. Joanne's line is: George C. - John Milton - William Milton William Harold - Joanne.

I only have 6 children listed for Milton and Angelina Rose: William Milton b. 9/20/1883 d. 2/28/1970, Mary b. 2/1885, Levicey "Vica" b. 12/9/1887 d. 4/11/1972, Mahala Belle b. 2/15/1892 d. 9/11/1961, Angeline b. 5/1892 and Alfred b. 3/13/1896 d. 3/13/1896. You don't list Alfred and I am missing Thomas and Haley.

I noticed on Milton's death record about the confusion with the "father and mother". It's amazing what are on some of these records. We really have to pay attention to the truths and falses...

I found George C.'s civil war record. That's always a bonus. It's great that we have modern medicine now because alot of the deaths back then can now be prevented.

If you want I can send what I have in the computer but it's not complete. I didn't list any of my sources or put all the lines in my database. I have it in the paperwork and I sent all that to her.

Thanks
Sherri

Re: Milton Littleton Carter Co., Ky

Sherri, This too has been a quandary for me. Here are a few notes...

(1) Milton's 2nd wife is Angelina "Lina" Carroll, born 1878, the daughter of George Washington Carroll & Martha Dean. Lina's brother, William "Bill" Madison Carroll, is my great-grandfather. Milton & Lina (Carroll) Littleton had 6 children that I know of: Milton {AKA "Pad"}, Ruby, George, Myrtle, Gracie and Virginia.

(2) You already mentioned his 1st wife, Angelina Rose. I have 7 children from their marriage: Belle, Thomas, William {AKA "Pid" & "Willie"}, Mary, Levisa {AKA "Vica" & "Dutch"}, Haley and Angeline.

(3) My Aunts & Uncles refer to Milton as "Old Milt" and told me that many of his children had the nicknames, Pad, Pid, Pud, Dar, Dur, etc... This makes it difficult for them to help with some information, as they only knew them by their nicknames. Milton's oldest son by his 2nd marriage - Milton "Pad" Littleton, is listed in my grandparents family Bible. Or rather his name and date of death is, which coincides with his West Virginia Death Record.

(4) Milton's father, George C.T. Littleton, died 01 Aug 1864 in a New Orleans Hospital during Civil War.

(5) From the first reply you received, it would seem apparent that Milton is in fact the son of George C.T. Littleton & Mary Ann Saulsberry.

(6) Regarding Milton's first name: The 1920 census states "James M. Littleton" but his Death Record states "John Milton Littleton." However, it should be noted that his death record also lists himself as father and his 1st wife as his mother. Someone was really confused when filling this record out.

Hope this helps! ~Kevin

AFRICAN AMERCIAN LITTLETON OF NORTHAMPTON, VA

My father's name was Edward Littleton Giddings, who was born 1903 in Cape Charles-Bay View-Eastville, VA. I am really researching the Giddings line, but thought that looking at his middle name would give me more places to search.

As I searched the history of Northampton and Accomac Counties, I came accross the information that the first slave in Virginia was sold by Nathaniel Littleton about 1642.

I am trying to find as much information as I can. My father's father was Edward Giddings-born about 1876. His father was Levin (Goffigan) Giddings-born about 1845 and his father was George Giddings born about 1781. George Giddings was the son of John Giddens and Sarah- his slave.

Since first writing this message, I have learned that the Littleton name comes from my father's grandfather who was named Littleton Burton born 1840. Littleton's wife was Henrietta born about 1850. Thank you

Can anyone help me?

Elenora

I am trying to trace the parents of William Littleton (Lyttelton) who was born around 1741 in Devon. He was married to Elizabeth Hooper in the parish of Hatherleigh in 1766. Their children were (as I know):

Sarah born 1766
William born 1770
John born 1772
Edward or Edmund born 1777
Joseph born 1767 - married to Elizabeth Bray also known as(Betsy Bray)

Joseph went on to have a son called Thomas born 1812 in Launceston and married 1st wife Elizabeth Whittam and then 2nd wife Mary Ann Dainty.

I would be most grateful if anyone can help me to progress my research with William.

Many thanks

Eve

Your posting is many years old. Have you made any connections with your Littleton side of famiuly? Ive been searching for a EDMUND LITTLETON and son CHARLES SIMMS LITTLETON since the 1970's. About 3 years ago I found out that their roots were in Wilmington Delaware. (Not The Philadelphia - New Jersey area that my parents hd told me).
The name "Charles (Sims/Simms)Littleton" has been carried several generations. (I know of 4 and possibly 5) Charles Jr. was born & raised in Philadelphia; had only one son and he moved to Texas about 1940's. (Charles Simms Littleton Sr. was my father's grandfather and the household in which my father was raised.) If you have any information please contact me directly at Lakegirl05@aol.com or BJRobertsOkes@aol.com using LITTLETON as subject.

Barbara Okes
