There are atleast Four Francis Marion Livelys all over the south but from different families. It was very confusing. I am confident I have the right line now.
Thanks again.
Anete

Livelyroots has listed Anderson Lively as your ancestors father for many years. Have you ever been to that site? Just google your "Francis Marion LIVELY" and you should get to the site easily. I believe the information they have came from "The Lively's of America".

Barb

How do I go about purchasing the book from the organization?

The original book contains family names up to my mother and Uncle. My Great-great grandfather was James H. Lively, who supplied the foundation for the original book. I have a transcribed copy of the original papers that were held by my grandfather. But, I need information from the book to help validate my application to DAR.

Please send me information and contact to the organization so that I may purchase, communicate and possibly join the organization.
thanks,
B.
The National Lively Families Association is doing well and will meet in St. Simon's Island Ga this July 20-22nd. Unfortunately our Webmaster died suddenly just as the site was to be updated and no one had his password. We plan to re-instate the site soon. The third book (called the second suppliment) can still be purchased from the organization.

Thank you. That helps a lot.

I don't know if anyone in my family ended up with any of the information. I have an uncle and 2nd cousin that have taken over where my grandfather and another uncle stopped before they passed away.

It appears from DAR & SAR records that this is one of the lines that has not ever applied for admission in the organizations. Therefore,it is going to be essential for me to prove my line to Cottrell.

James H Lively died in Nebraska, I have a photo of his headstone on my tree. He is buried near Melsina, William and my grandparents.

thanks again, Brenda

Got the copies -- thank you very much (you saved me a long drive into town to visit the library)!!! A year of death was listed for Nathan Taylor, which is helpful because we have been unable to locate a death or burial record on him. Obviously something exists somewhere since the author had the date, so we will have to keep digging.

Thanks again for your help -- very much appreciated!
Page 462 of Livelys of America has your James & Mary Ann Forrest on it, showing Melsena b. 18 May 1870 and married William Naysmith.

There may be a clue here for you also:

"James H. Lively lived lastly at Gas City, Grant, Indiana. James H. materially added to the genealogy of Cotrell Lively decendants when he gathered a considerable number of Lively records in the early 1900s and compiled this information in manuscript form. This has been widely used in compiling this genealogy.
~~~~
I'd get in touch with Grant County, Indiana if I were you. The townseat is in Marion - I know because my mom used to live up that way :)
Hi! I started this thread and never got the page copies someone offered to send.
I'm interested in page 309 of the book; here is what I posted at the start of the discussion:
"The page in question is pg. 309, for John Lively, b. 1790-1794. His wife was Milbra (Milberry) James, b. abt 1800."
I'm particularly interested in anything they mention about Milbra/Milberry. Her second husband was Nathan Taylor, my ggg-grandfather. When I found the marriage record for them (Nathan and Milbra/Milberry), we didn't know there had been a 3rd marriage for Nathan. Hence I'm curious to see what, if anything, is mentioned about them.
Thanks for your help! If there are lots of pages to scan, I learned from another of your posts here that I'm blessed with a local library having a copy of the book -- just need to find the time to get there (I work full-time and the library isn't open when I'm off).
Actually, Brenda, if you go to your local library and speak with the librarian there, they should be able to locate a copy for you anywhere in the United States. Your library would contact the library in Anywhere, USA and they would mail the actual copy of the book to your local library and voila! You will have it within your very hands :) I know for a fact that the DAR Library in Washington, DC has at least one copy Washington, DC as that's the first place I saw the book.
Oh, I should also say that by "local library" I mean ANY public library. It doesnt have to be a Family History library or other genealogical one :)
I have a copy of it, but the book is 830+ pages. I double-checked really quick and the Cottrell section of the book runs around 300 pages alone.
I think that the interlibrary loan is the best way to go, otherwise I'd be happy to help.
Happy to do quick lookups :)
You may be able to do an interlibrary loan possibly on the books from a library in the Randolph County area of Illinois.
I took some photos on my recent trip. But it is about 100 pages... so it's a problem to send all of that.
What did happen to the Lively Family website and group?
Genealogy.com indicated that Copies or supplements can be ordered from Russell Lively in Ringgold, GA. Russell was the Treasurer of NALF.
At that time is was said that John A. Lively was President of the Association.
Does anyone know what happened?
Also, I am looking for information (Albeit scanned pages from the book) on my line that starts with Cottrell to Joseph to Loammi to JH (James Higgens) to Melsina Lively Naysmith to Victor Vernon Naysmith to Norma Naysmith.
It is my understanding that all are named in the book. I need the verification for a DAR application.
Thanks Brenda
George Albert Lively 1873 -
I posted about 12 years ago about this, but thought I'd start a new thread with new information. Maybe someone out there is looking for the same thing?
George Albert Lively, born 1873 in Randolph County, Illinois, USA. Parents are William and Luvisa (Burton) Lively.
In 1910, the census has him working in a logging camp in Getchell, Washington. In 1916, he crossed the border into Canada. The record states that he was a farmer from Spokane, WA, and was headed to Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. In 1920, he crossed the border into Canada again. This time to British Columbia and headed to Calgary, Alberta. It still lists him as a farmer from Spokane, and gives a reason for going to Canada...but I can't decipher the writing.
This is the most recent record I have found. I would love to know if he married...had children...when he died... where he died, etc. George is a Great-Great Uncle of mine.
I went to the library there in Randolph County where I found a copy of this book. I may have a photo(have to check) from that trip on my genealogy vacation. If I do I will send it. The Lively Family website for some reason was not renewed and the family isn't meeting anymore evidently. That book is going to be RARE. I've called and emailed that family to try and get a copy to no avail. The only copies I'm aware of with public access is in the surrounding libraries. I'm trying to remember which library I went to as I went to half a dozen. When I found it, I took photos of about 100 pages for my personal records. Simply because I can't find the book. You might could get the book on interlibrary loan!!!! I would do so if I were you. It is chocked full of details. There is also a video done on PBS of the "Lively Massacre" which has some interesting details. Simply google it and you should find it.
I have him married to a Frances Davis, but other research and trees have him married to Ruth Davis in 1810. I want to know if he was married to Ruth in 1810 or Frances in 1810. also, I am trying to find out about his parents, but the trees I find have he father's last name as being Davis. Anyone that can help me figure this out would be great. I am working on my tree with 2 cousins and 1 of my aunts so please help us out on finding more information about Shadrock's wife or wives as the case may be...thank you in advace....Lynne
