Am trying to trace the above family. They were last known to reside in Forgue, Aberdeen in 1841. Known children are George, Catherine, Helen, Jane and Robert. Helen Wight's brother Robert is my gggrandfather. Did they immigrate to Canada? None of them appear on Scotland's 1881 census.

If you have a copy of this book and are willing to do a lookup or would like to sell the book, please contact me. I think that the book chronicles the Livingston family in colonial Hudson Valley, NY. I am trying to document several generations for a lineage society application. Many thanks, Margaret

Hi,

Im looking for information on the Livingston family tree. I'm looking for descendents of John Livingston from Nova Scotia. He had children named Isobel and David. I believe they relocated to the Toronto area in and around 1945. David may have resided in Hamilton Ontario. If there is anyone that has information on this family can you please contact me. Isobel was born approximately 1925. I'm researching this for a work colleague who has been trying to fill in the gaps in her family tree.

Those webpages: a note

Looking at recent posts, I want to point out that in those webpages I recently mentioned we have two separate Livingston families from Germany, and quite a few more than two who have Hudson Valley connections.

In both cases, the DNA surname project has shown that things are NOT quite so simple as modern popular genealogy would like to think. Far more evidence is needed, and the surname project is probably the ONLY possible way in which questions will be resolved.

My normal e-mail address: andrew.lancaster@skynet.be

Best Regards
Andrew

Hello Livingston researchers

I have spent a good portion of the weekend making a long overdue update to the webpages of our Surname Project now divided on to 2 pages, for genetic reasons...
http://users.skynet.be/lancaster/Maclea_Livingston%20R1b.htm
http://users.skynet.be/lancaster/MacLea_Livingston%20Other.h...

This is getting to be a big job, and I would appreciate it if keener Livingston genealogists would have a look and tell me about any errors, or unclarities, or anything which leads to new interesting ideas!

Best Regards
Andrew

Robert C. Livingston of Penn.

Robert C. Livingston

Robert C. Livingston was born in York County, Penn., in 1815, a son of William and Margaret (Cook) Livingston, of York and Cumberland Counties, respectively, and of Scotch descent. His grandfather came from Scotland in a very early day and settled in York County. The father, a cooper by trade, followed farming in York County for many years, and died in 1846 at the age of sixty-eight years. He had the following children: James (deceased), Mary, William, Ellen (deceased), Robert C., Hugh )deceased), and George (deceased). Robert C. Livingston was brought up on the farm until the age of eleven years, when he went to live with William Diven, Esq., with whom he remained until the age of twenty-one years. During that time he learned the tanner’s trade, which he followed for thirty-one years in Adams County, Penn. He owns about eighty-one acres of well cultivated land in Franklin Township, where he resides. In 1838 he married Lydia Beles, daughter of Josiah Beles, of Adams County. James, Caleb, Robert A. (deceased), Lorah M. (deceased), Mary E., Lydia J., Anna C., Margaret D. (deceased), Ida C. (deceased) and Fletcher (deceased), are the children born to this union. Mr. Livingston is a member of the Presbyterian Church, and his wife of the Episcopal Church. The eldest son, James, was a soldier in the late war, and their third son, Robert, died when in the service.

Taken from the book, “History of York County, Illustrated 1886” by John Gibson, Historical Editor

Harriet Livingston and Robert Fulton

I am trying to get the correct relationships between families involved in the boat business and their connection to Lewis and Clark Expedition out of Pittsburgh.

I believe Harriet Livingston the youngest sister to Judge Robert R Livingston was married to steamboat builder Robert Fulton.

I believe that Judge Robert R Livingstons grandmother was Margart Schuyler of the General Phillip Schuyler Family.

I believe that Alexander Hamilton was married to Elizabeth Schuyler the daughter of General Phillip Schuyler and Catherine Van Rensselaer. Elizabeth Schuyler was George Washington godchild.

It is my understanding the Judge Robert R Livingston arranged the Louisiana Purchase from Napoleon and that Judge Robert R Livingston was in the boat business with Robert Fulton at the time.

As a result of the Louisiana purchase, a boat was commissioned in Pittsburgh for the Lewis and Clark expedition.

I have records that Caption Meriwether Lewis served under Col Alexander Hamilton during the control of the Whiskey Rebellion in Pittsburgh in 1794.

I also have records that Thomas and Elizabeth Pollock, the grandparents of Alexander Hamilton were living with Robert Fulton's mother, brother and three sisters just 13 miles south of Pittsburgh in Washington Co in 1795.

Then I have a record that Judge Robert R Livingston swore in George Washington as President in 1789 with Thomas Jefferson as the head of the Dept of State and Alexander Hamilton as the head of the Dept of Treasury thus the Whiskey Rebellion.

I also have a record that a special keelboat patent was issued to Alexander Lewis of Pittsburgh who was George Washington's grand nephew and Meriwether Lewis second cousin. It was issued by Thomas Jefferson the day George Washington was sworn into office as President in 1789.

I was wondering if anyone had any comments on these relationships.

Mary Moncrieffe Livingston [1869-1956] Ulster Co., NY, and Baltimore, MD

I am helping a writer compile a history of the Garrison Forest School (MD) which was founded in 1910 or 1914 by a Miss Mary Moncrieffe Livingston. We don't know where Miss Livingston was born, the best we have been able to find was the census which just says "NY". Can you help pin that down more?

2. We have only a simple death notice from the Baltimore papers. Was a more complete obituary published in Kingston? Or in her home town?

3. Were the Livingston School and the Livingston-Jerson Kindergarten one and the same?

4. Where in Kingston were they located?

5. What became of these schools?

Any assistance you can provide would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

--
Regards, Rod Dav4is / P.O.
LIVINGSTON, William Sandbourn, Vermont & Canada

I'm trying to obtain further information about my great great grandfather, William Sandbourn Livingston, who lived in West Berkshire, Vermont from ~1841 to perhaps as late as 1920. He's sometimes listed as "Sanbourn Livingston."

I'm particularly interested in the full name of, and any other information regarding, his (first?) wife, who may have been Jennie M. (unknown) or Jane Crawford (b. ~1841, Canada). If there's more than one wife, my particular interest is in the one who was the mother of Anna (b. ~1873) and Asa John Livingston (b. 1877), both born in Vermont.

I'm also interested in confirming or learning the names of WSL's parents and grandparents. On the trees of other ancestry.com folks I've seen information indicating his father was Samuel W. Livingston (b. ~1810 in Vermont); that his mother was Ann (unknown - possibly Gale; b. ~1810 in Elizabethtown, ON, Canada), and that Samuel W.'s parents were James Livingston (b. ~1778, possibly in Massachusetts) and Elizabeth Kelsey (b. ~1818).

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Janet
John Livingstone b. 1656, Scotland; d. unknown date, Chelmsford, England or Massachusetts

I'm looking for the parents of, specific place of birth of or any other information regarding this John Livingstone. His surname appears variously as Livingstone, Levestone, and Leviston, although in OneWorldTree it's spelled Livingstone. He died on an unknown date in Chelmsford, England or Chelmsford, Massachusetts -- although I think Mass. is more likely, since he lived in Mass. for a long time, and was still living there in 1703, when he was about 47. But I did see another member's tree stating that one of his daughters, b. 1703 in Mass., died in 1705 in Ireland, so perhaps he did jump back over the pond.

I've seen this John Livingstone in the family trees of numerous other ancestry.com members, and everyone's information seems to hit the same dead end. They all have virtually the same info: birth in 1656 in Scotland (no town), and nothing about his parents.

He married Margaret Ross, and they had at least 11 children, although I know of only 3 that lived to adulthood. I've read that 5 of his children and his mother-in-law were killed, and a 6th child was kidnaped, by Indians in a massacre on 5 Aug 1695 in Billerica, Mass. (A 7th child, a 13yo boy, was absent from the home at the time and survived.) John and Margaret then had another 4 children (including my ancestor, who was already on the way at the time of the attack), but my info indicates that only my ancestor, the boy who survived the massacre and 1 girl who was among the 4 born afterward survived to adulthood.

If you know anything about this John Livingstone, I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd let me know. Thanks!

Gov Thomas Mifflin, Catherine Livingston, and Susannah Mifflin?

Hello,

I have what one would call an "issue", and I could use some serious help!

I am a descendant of Henry Reighley, son of Matthew Reighley and Susannah Mifflin.

Henry's daughter Jennie (I have also seen her called Jane)Reighley Steen was my ggggrandmother.

I have searched and searched and came up with Thomas Mifflin as Susannah Mifflin's father, and Catherine E Livingston as Susannah's mother.

I know Thomas Mifflin was married to Sarah Morris. It is my understanding that he had at least one(likely more) child out of wedlock. Susannah is supposedly one of them.

However, on some of the family trees I have looked at, Susannah Mifflin's mother is a Mary McLanahan, father still Thomas Mifflin, but possibly another Thomas Mifflin.

I find a Catherine Livingston married to a Peter Close, but no daughter named Susannah mentioned. This raises another question... What was Susannah's legal maiden name? Mifflin? Livingston? Close? I have only ever seen it on other family trees as MIFFLIN.

Everytime I am sure I have the correct Susannah Mifflin, it seems I don't. Everytime it seems I have the correct Catherine Livingston, it then seems I'm wrong.

I wish I knew something I was certain of, but as of now, my genealogy for this branch is all 'soft copy' or 'rough draft'.

So far as I can tell, it does seem like Susannah's name was MIFFLIN and that her parents were Thomas Mifflin and Catherine Livingston. I feel almost certain, ALMOST, that Catherine is the daughter of Henry Livingston and Susannah Storm of NY. Of course I am nearly as unsure of all of this as I am sure of it. I can get little to no actual sources from historical or vital records. Much of what I am basing this off of is various websites of Livingston, Mifflin, Crissman, or Reighley family trees.

Any info would be appreciated. I will gladly share what I have, even my 'rough draft' Reighley/Mifflin/Livingston lineage.

Thanks.

Lisa Cadry

My several greats grandmother, Elizabeth Livingston was bornin Schoharie County, NY in Mar or April, 1785 or 1786 - could be any combo of those dates. She married Rev. The Big question is: WHO WERE HER PARENTS AND SIBLINGS????????????
I have looked and looked and looked for so long and can't find them.
They may have been originally Lowenstein - the Lowensteins changed their name to Livingston in the late 1700s.
I would be so grateful for help with this woman.
Marlena

On the Web:
http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=1...

IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 906-07
July 20, 2007
Missing WWII Sailor is Identified

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that the remains of a U.S. serviceman, missing in action from World War II, have been identified and returned to his family for burial with full military honors.

He is Fireman 3rd Class Alfred E. Livingston, U.S. Navy, of Worthington, Ind. He will be buried on Saturday in Worthington.

On Dec. 7, 1941, Livingston was assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma when it was attacked by Japanese torpedo aircraft and capsized in Pearl Harbor. The ship sustained massive casualties. Livingston was one of hundreds declared killed in action whose body was not recovered. In the aftermath of the attack, some remains were recovered from the waters of Pearl Harbor. One set of sailor's remains was recovered and thought to be associated with the USS Arizona losses. However, when efforts to identify the sailor failed, it was inconclusive what ship he was assigned to and he was buried as an unknown in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, known as The Punchbowl.

In 2006, a Pearl Harbor survivor and researcher, contacted the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) and suggested that the biological and dental information on file for the unknown sailor may be correlated with Livingston's personnel file. JPAC's analysts studied the documentation and found enough evidence to support the researcher's findings that Livingston was actually recovered after the war even though he was originally listed as one of the hundreds of unrecoverable servicemen from the attack on Pearl Harbor. In February 2007, the grave for the unknown sailor was exhumed.

Among other forensic identification tools and circumstantial evidence, scientists from JPAC also used dental comparisons in the identification of Livingston's remains.

For additional information on the Defense Department's mission to account for missing Americans, visit the DPMO Web site at http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo/ or call (703) 699-1420.

James Livingston, Southington, CT Line

I am researching my Great Grandfather James Livingston of Southington, CT who was born in NYC, NY. He married Sarah Wagstaff 12 Sept 1880 in Southington. I have a copy of the certificate. They had 11 children between 1881 and 1895. I believe that James died between 1895 and 1900 because I found Sarah and 10 of their children in the 1900 Plainville CT census. Sarah died in 1919 in Pittsfield, MA. I also found this tree posted in the World Family Tree Vol 13 tree #1102 but am unable to find any contact information. Any help would be wonderful.

Diane

Pulaski County GA Livingstons 1818-1820 George; Ann

There is a George Livingston listed on the 1818 Pulaski County Tax list. No poll tax due, leading me to believe that he was 60+. Can anyone link him to a family? Also listed was Martin Livingston, 1 poll tax due. This is most likely the Martin Livingston, brother to Jacob Livingston.

There is also an Ann Livingston on the 1820 Pulaski census. Does anyone know who she might be? Could she be widow of George? Or mother to Jacob and Martin Livingston?
Bernice

Christian died in Somerset County, PA in early 1800 (Estate #2). He was my g-g-g grandfather. He is listed as Livingston although documents were signed in German by his family as Lowenstein. His descendants apparently use Livingston. He was second husband to Anna Mueller Spangler when they were married 1 July 1778 in Hagerstown, MD. Any information on his ancestry most appreciated.

Livingston/Livingstone, Scotland to Canada, ca 1850

I am looking for the male Livingston/Livingstone, who is suppose to be of Appin, Argleshire, Scotland, that married Margaret McCallum. This male Livingston died before 1850. His wife, Margaret was born in 1779 and died in the Township of Plympton, Lambton Co., Ontario, Canada in 1867, later, some of the family moved to Forest, Lambton Co., Ontario. In about 1850, Margaret and three daughters and their families immigrated to Canada. The only daughter I know about is Elizabeth Harriet (Betty), who was married in Scotland to John Livingston (who died after 1859) of Appin also. This John is said to be a first cousin to Dr. David Livingstone. John and Betty had two sons and three daughters, all born in Scotland. They were Christina (b. ca. 1831 & my ancestor), Daniel (b. ca. 1835), Margaret, Duncan (b. ca. 1851) and Mary Livingston. I am also looking for the parents of the John Livingston that married Elizabeth Harriett Livingston. Looking for descendants of this family to correspond with. Sure need some help, Thanking you, Jim Kirby (slohandx2@aol.com)

Looking for info on Vada Livingston and her descendents. Vada was the child of Lillie Jane Noland and John Livingston, was born on August 11, 1894, probably in Tuolumne County, CA, was living in S.F., CA and married to Edward Poole in 1920, and died on Feb 18, 1975 in San Joaquin County, CA. I am a Noland descendent and am specifically interested in info on Vada's mother, Lillie Jane Noland Brunson (1874-1947), and Lillie's parents, Edgar A. Noland (1850-1896) and Mary Walton Noland (1855-1921). I am hoping that some Noland family history was passed down through Vada's family.
The only info we have at this time is that he was married to ? Naismith and they lived in Ontario, Frontenac County and he was born in Scotland. They had several children including James Naismith Livingston(e) born 4/25/1874

I haven't had much luck tracking any additional information on him. My sister is hoping to track down a copy of jame's birth certificate which we're hoping will have additional info on it and possibly backtrack from there. I haven't been able to find this person on the Canadian census either

Jame's obituary here in WA state just states that he had several siblings in Canada still, presumably Ontario

Any info anyone has is greatly appreciate.

Suzanne

Wm LIVINGSTON m. Margaret HOUSTOUN 1615

Sir William Livingston of Kilsyth is most probably the son of Sir William Livingston of Kilsyth and Christian Graham. This William died c. 1626 -27, and was therefore the only Sir William Livingston of Kilsyth to have been born in the correct timeframe to have a daughter that married John Forsyth.

William Livingston m.1stly Antoinette de Bord, dau of Pierre de Bord.

Their two children were Sir William Livingston of Darchester who died before 1615,
and Cristine, who married in 1602.

William Livingston m.2ndly 27 Jul 1615, Margaret Houstoun, dau of Sir John Houstoun.

William and Margaret Livingston had two children:
Sir James Livingston of Barncloich, 1st Viscount of Kilsyth (b 1616),
and Margaret Livingston bc.1617-18, which puts her just a couple years younger than the approximate age for John Forsyth. She m.2ndly (?) after 10 Apr 1656, Robert MONTGOMERY of Haslehead. This would have put her close to 40 years old, and thus unlikely to have been her first marriage.
Margaret Livingston possibly m.1stly John Forsyth, who d. prior to 1656 when Margaret apparently remarried.

James Forsyth inherited the land of "Kilsyth Easter(n)" from his mother.

In 1620 William Livingston acquired the eastern half of the Barony of Kilsyth, presumably from his father. Sir William Livingston of Kilsyth, a lawyer was appointed Lord of Session as one of the Senators of the College of Justice in 1609. He was later made his Majesty's Privy-Council and Vice-Chancellor of Scotland.

In 1614, Sir William Livingston purchased a portion of the estate of (Edmonston's ) Duntreath for 20,000 merks.

In 1630, after Sir William Livingston's death, the estate returned to Sir Archibald Edmonstone, 7th of Duntreath.

The estate of Duntreath lies on both sides of the Blane Valley some twelve miles to the north of the city of Glasgow, Scotland.

The original Barony of Duntreath consisted of Duntreath, including Craigbrock. Arlehaven Edmonstone, including Auchentail, Dumgoiach (Dumgoyach) Blairgar, including Blairgarmore, Blairgar Begg, and Caldhame; Ballewan Edmonstone, or Middle Ballewan; and Cult Edmonstone, including Corriedale.

Agnes Livingston b.abt. 1750 Perthshire, Scotland d. 1822 York Co., PA

I'm trying to link my ancestor Agnes "Nancy" Livingston(b. abt. 1750, d. 1822) to the Rev. John Livingston (b. 21 June 1603 in Sterlingshire, Scotland). Rev. John (and wife Jannet Flemming) had three sons who survived into adulthood: Robert Livingston (1st Lord & NY patriarch), William Livingston (b. 1638) and James Livingston (b. 1646; father of "the Nephew" Robert Livingston of NY).

My Agnes Livingston married David Proudfoot/Proudfit in Scotland I think (bef. 1770). David came to America abt. 1759, with/after David's three brothers, one of whom was Andrew Proudfit who was married to a Sarah Wallace.

Agnes and David had children in York Co., PA: Andrew (m. Mary Marshall), Elizabeth (m. Shadrach Corbin), John (m. Elizabeth Lyle), James (m. Catherine Smith), Nancy, Robert, Mary (m. John McCalmont) and my ancestor Jane (m. John McAllister, s/o James McAllister and Eleanor Anderson- both buried in the McAllister Cemetery in East Hopewell Twsp, York Co., PA).

Long rumored within the family to be "related" in some way to "The Signer" and to a "Lady in waiting to the Queen" (possibly Queen Mary of Scotland). Both these claims would be true if I could prove the relationship to Rev. John Livingston and his wife Jannet Flemming.

Agnes could possibly be a grand dau. of the afore mentioned William or James. My great great grandfather was born in Cross Roads, York Co., PA in 1852 and was named Rev. John Andrew Livingston Smith. My uncle also has the Livingston name. I'd love to tie it back to Scotland if possible.

I've been told of a 2002 reprint of the 1911 Historical Sketch of the Proudfit Family that states Jane as the daughter of David Proudfit and Nancy Livingston, but I have never seen this. My Jane Proudfit and John McAllister marriage info is apparently in this record too.

Please e-mail/respond to this message if you have any ideas. Thank you for your time!

Livingston/Nasmith (Ontario)

hello all. I'm hoping someone might have some info on this. We just received a copy of my great grandfathers and great grandmothers marriage certificate from Montana

My great grandfathers name is James Nasmith Livingston (or Livingstone). I believe the marriage certificate says his fathers name is George and the mothers maiden name was Nasmith, but it doesn't provide the mothers first name

James is believed to have been born in Ontario on April 12th 1874. We're trying to track down any other information on this side of the family. We believe George was most likely born in Scotland, but we dont know the date or the location yet.

Any information anyone has is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to email me directly at
livingstoneancestry@comcast.net

Thanks, Suzanne Livingstone
