Hi good to hear back from you Bryon.

Well I was able to make a contact that has some research regarding pioneers at West Nottawasaga Church and he sent me a file with a faily detailed tree. I would like to send it to you to help you with your information and see how it lines up. Can you provide me with your email as it is a word.doc

Alex

Hi Alex: If the indications are right; and everything seems to point in that direction, then Cathatine "Katie" Livingston(e) would be my great grandmother.
I came across a website about the history of clearview Twp, formerly Nottawasaga and Sunnidale Twp. with a history apparently written over a 100yrs ago that mentions the Mcallum's, Currie's,Livingstones, etc. and a John Macgillvray
who arrived with his family in 1848 "After having lived a short time in N. Carolina. He settled on lot 27, Con. 12 where he lived until his death on Apr. 21 1892. Several members of this family of this pioneer have occupied prominent positions inthe country". There is also an old map
with a location of the farm of a "D" Macgillivray, wether this is Duncan's farm I do not know! Regards: Bryon

Hi Bryon, Well if what I have found is correct. There is a Duncan McGillivray is buried with my great great Aunt Catherine "Katie" livingstone McGillivray at West Nottawasaga Presbyterian Church Cemetery. It lists some chirldred on their file. There is an Archibald, but no Daniel listed.

Try googleing that cemetery name, and navigating around it to see what matches what you have. And please get back to me and we can try to figure out if or where we are connected in our tree. ttyl

Alex

I am looking for the family of Daniel MacGillivary (MacGillivray) born 1874 Nottawasaga Twp., Simcoe North, Ont.I do not have much to go on. Family says he came from the Collingwood area. His marrige certificate list his parents as Duncan Mcgillivary and "Katie" Livingston. He had a younger brother Archibald "Archie", who moved to Saskatchewan and eventually died in Calgary about 1961. There seemed to be a number of similarities on your tree for Duncan MacGillivray and Catharine Livingston, and that is why I contacted you! Apparently the surname MacGillivray was changed to MacGillivary by a school teacher in Alberta!
Thanx: Bryon

Hi Bryond1, You may want to check the Clan Livingstone/Mclea society forum out. They have a few very skilled historians that are researching livingstone all the time. If you are in search of a daughter of Alexander and Flora it would seem we share some distant connection. Catherine is the sister of my Gr Grandfather Angus Livingstone.

Amelia Jane Livingstone B1879 Vic Aust D1960 NSW

Hi. I am trying to search the forebears of my wife's 2x great grandmother Amelia Jane Livingstone. She was born in Carlton (Melb) Victoria 1879 and died near Bulli NSW in 1960. She married a Frederick Ernest Edwards in 1908 and they had 5 Children (1909 to 1917), Vera, Iris, Fredrick, Alma and my wife's grandfather Eric Ernest Edwards.

I am trying to find out more about Amelia's parents. Her father Alexander Livingstone apparently came from Scotland (possibly Glasgow) and her mother believed to be Sarah Baskerville also came from Scotland. Alexander allegedly came via boat around 1866 from somewhere in Britain.

There is also a family story that this Livingstone line goes back to a brother of the famous Dr David Livingstone.

Any help would be great appreciated. I have tried Scotlands People but so far have not unearthed anything, but 4 possible relatives around the same time frame.

Thanks in advance

Brendan Hamilton
brendanham

If you have a look in the Clan McLea/Livingstone site, there is quite a bit of info I have found & posted, also quite a bit on Ancestry,
John

Seeking information about C. R. (abt. 1824, N.C. – 1893) and Lavinia Livingston, sometimes written as Livingstone (abt. 1830 N.C. - 1886) of Batesville, Arkansas. This couple is buried in Oaklawn Cemetery, as are sons Adolphus (1850 – 1925) and Falconer O. (died 1892). Daughter Alice is believed to have married George O. Magness and moved to Texas. Interested in any possible relationship to the William S. Hopson family. One of Hopson’s orphaned sons, John B. Hopson, was in the Livingston household in the 1880 census for Batesville, Independence County. Thanks in advance for any information.

My family tridition holds that we are related to David Livingstone.
I have written a brief "family tree" history which I'll attach below.
Bill Livingstone, Santa Barbara, CA

SOME OF THE OLD BIRDS IN THE FAMILY TREE	f:r-famtre.e

SAMUEL LIVINGSTONE (fraternal great-great-grandfather of Wm. and Richard Livingstone)
Samuel and was born (date unknown) in Scotland but moved to Ireland. According to family tradition, Samuel had a brother who moved from Ireland to Scotland and became the father of David Livingstone (1813-73), the famous explorer and missionary in Africa.

ROBERT LIVINGSTONE (fraternal great-grandfather of Wm. and Richard Livingstone)
Born in Ireland, probably in the 1820s. He emigrated to Crown Point Indiana in 1852. He and his wife had nine chidden, only two of whom were boys: Samuel Alexander and Moses who died in a train accident in 1899. Robert lost a leg in the Civil War and wore a wooden leg after that.

SAMUEL ALEXANDER LIVINGSTONE (fraternal grandfather of Wm. and Richard Livingstone)
Born 7 Feb 1852, Belfast, Ireland; died 1934 in San Diego CA. His family emigrated to Crown Point Indiana when he was only one year old. There they lived among friends who were also from Belfast. Samuel had eight sisters and one brother, all but one of whom were born in Crown Point. He was a Presbyterian, but married Margaret Hennin in September 1880 in Chicago IL. She had been raised a Catholic. They had five children, Margaret, May, Robert (William and Richard's father), Jesse, and George. Samuel was a veterinarian specializing in domestic livestock, and made a number of trips across the Atlantic on cattle ships. Later he was a farmer. Because of his drinking problem, he and Margaret separated sometime around the turn of the century when he went to Oklahoma to live with his sister Belle, and later to California.

MARGARET HENNIN LIVINGSTONE (fraternal grandmother of Wm. and Richard Livingstone)
Born 30 Sep 1962, Belfast Ireland: died 1936 in San Diego CA. Her family emigrated to Crown Point when she was only a couple of years old. She was from a large family, and when she was about ten years old she became a servant girl to a Catholic family in Crown Point. The family raised her as a Catholic, made sure she finished school, and had an appreciation of education. This was born out later when she made great sacrifices to make sure that her own five children all went to college. She owned a boarding house in Edmond, Oklahoma, where University of Oklahoma students lived.

WILLIAM HENRY LAKE (maternal grandfather of Wm. and Richard Livingstone)
Born on 14 Sep 1867 on a farm in Aurora, Whiteside County, IL; died 1936, Van Nuys CA. He married Eliza Mary Gebhart on January 27, 1882 in Aurora NE. He and Eliza lived on a farm in Nebraska until they moved with their six children (Cecil, Mary, Arnold, Hattie, Ira, and Rachel) to Montana about fifteen years. The family then moved on to Kennewick, WA, where, among other things, he managed a movie theater. In 1923, he and Eliza moved to the San Fernando Valley in California where he had a produce route and raised poultry before he died. He was a large man with high cheek bones and a prominent arched nose. He was a very friendly man who loved to play the fiddle and harmonica. His children and grandchildren all loved him dearly.

ELIZA (LYDE) MARY GEBHART LAKE (maternal grandmother of Wm. and Richard Livingstone)
Born September 15 1867 in Illinois; died January 1960 in Los Angeles CA. Her father's name was Sidney Bound Gebhart born in 1841 in Miamisburg OH. Her fraternal grandfather was Adam Gebhart (or Gephart) born in 1814 or 1818 in OH. Her fraternal grandmother was Eliza Mary Denice born in 1818 or 1823 in OH. Her mother's name was Rachel Matthews Gebhart who was born in 1842 in Indiana. Her maternal grandmother was Vianna Clawson Matthews, born in 1808 in Montgomery County OH. Her maternal great grandmother, on her mother's side, was Sophia Cavolt Clawson, born in 1775. Sophia's mother and father were Abraham and Lois Pendelton Covault, both born 1743 in Sussex County, New Jersey. These last two people were Lindsay, Kathy, and Dana Livingstone's great great great great great great grandparents, making them 1/128th Covault and 1/128th Pendelton, a Revolutionary War family that lived in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

ROBERT LIVINGSTONE (father of Wm. and Richard Livingstone)
Born 29 Jan 1892, Hammond Indiana; died 10 Dec 1960, Riverside CA. Spent a stint in the Army during World War I after graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1917 (his sister May and Brother George graduated from OU the same year). After teaching school in both Arkansas and Washington, he married Rachel Lake in Kennewick Washington in 1923. After they moved to California, that same year, worked as a building materials salesman and for the last 28 years of his life owned (together with Rachel's uncle Tobias Gebhart) the Velvetone Stucco Company in Los Angeles CA. He had been retired for two years before he died of a heart attack. He was a wonderful man with hundreds of friends who all loved him dearly.

RACHEL ISABEL LAKE LIVINGSTONE HANSEN (mother of Wm. and Richard Livingstone)
Born 29 June 1904 in Aurora NE; died 20 Jan 1983, Los Angeles, CA. Born in Nebraska and raised in Montana and Washington, she worked as a dental assistant before she was married. She was a devoted mother who was always interested in her children's welfare. She was active in civic affairs during World War II, and was president of the 54th St. School PTA in Los Angeles where her sons Bill and Richard went to school. For about two years before her husband Robert died and for about ten years after he died, she worked as an optometric assistant to Dr. Norman Fox in Riverside, CA. In November, 1979, almost 19 years after Robert died, she married Sylvan R. Hansen in Brentwood, CA. Rachel died at the age of 79. Syl Hansen died in 1995 at the age of 98.

RICHARD SAWYER LIVINGSTONE (Wm. Livingstone's brother)
Born 30 Oct 1928 in Glendale CA; died May 1988, of cancer, in Champaign, IL. Raised in Los Angeles CA, Richard was a good high school athlete, having played both baseball and football. He graduated from Dorsey High School in Los Angeles in 1946. After his stint in the US Army of occupation in Japan in 1947 and 1948, he attended El Camino College in Torrance CA. He married Joyce Louise Denny in June 1951, at the Angeles Mesa Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles CA. After working for his father between 1951 and 1953, he went into in the building material business with his brother Bill until 1958. Rich worked in the automobile tire business until about 1980 when he and his wife Joyce opened a Christian book store in Champaign, IL.

WILLIAM ROBERT LIVINGSTONE
Born 23 February 1928 at home at 833 West 84th Street, Los Angeles CA. According to family tradition he was supposed to be named Samuel, because for the last 13 generations the eldest sons in the Livingstone family were supposed to be alternately Robert and Samuel. But Bill's father (Robert) wasn't too fond of his father (Samuel), so he broke the tradition and named William after his maternal grandfather, William Henry Lake. Raised in Los Angeles CA, William was never much of an athlete, but was interested in Boy Scouts, and school service activities. He graduated from Dorsey High School in Los Angeles in 1942. After one semester at the Univ. of Southern California, he was drafted into the Army Air Corp in January 1943 where he served during World War II until October 1945. He then returned to USC where he graduated in Architecture in 1950. Three months after graduation from college he was recalled into the Army for one year during the Korean War. He married Theresa Margaret Hendry on July 30, 1946 at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles CA. They had three daughters; Lindsay, born January 6, 1949 in Inglewood, CA; Kathleen Theresa, born November 26, 1951 in Inglewood; and Dana Margaret born April 20, 1956 in Riverside, CA. After working for his father between 1951 and 1953 he went into the building material business with his brother Rich until 1958. He then went to work for with the Riverside County (CA) Planning Department, to start a 35 year career in urban planning. He worked in Irvine, Long Beach, and Santa Barbara in both public and private planning. He retired in 1993 and started writing his memoirs which he considers to be his final career.
Most of the Livingstone family genealogical information was collected by Bill Livingstone's cousin George Powell of Bethesda Maryland. Darrell Mason of Lincoln NE, his cousin once removed, did years of research to gather about an inch thick stack of data on the Lake-Gebhart-Matthews-Clawson-Cavolt families.
David Livingstone connection.

There is a traqdition in my family that my ancestor Margaret Fraser (1832-1901) was first cousin of Daid Livingstone the African explorer.

I contacted another person on here who also had Margaret Fraser in her family tree and was fascinated to discover that her family had the same tradition.

Margaret's mother is Janet Livingstone (1790-1862)

The lived in Ballachulish, Argyll.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can confirm if Janet is linked to David Livingstone's family.

Many thanks

I have a ancestor named Elizabeth Livingstone but no information regarding her except that she supposedly was born Feb. 1793 in Glasgow. There has always been a family story about a relation to Dr. Livingstone so I'm trying to see where it fits in.

Hi,

I am looking for more info on my Livingstone/Johnston line.
Mary Livingstone born Scotland.. not sure what year and don't know who her parents were. She married Alexander Johnston who was born 1837 in Scotland and died 1917 New Zealand. They had 3 children (Mary Johnston, Elizabeth Johnston, Alexander Robert Johnston b 1874 Invercargill New Zealand and died 1905 Herberton QLD Australia). I am connected through Alexander Robert Johnston who apparently married Minnie Mildred Elizabeth Tranter and their daughter Jessie Anne Johnston who married John Marquis Smith. but I can't find much on them either.. something isn't right as I have information that Alexander Robert Johnston died 1905 but Jessie Anne Johnston (his daughter) was born 1916??
I am with the understanding that the Livingstone Family were quite an important family in Scottish history with Earl's and Lords etc.
If anyone has any info it would me much appreciated.

Thanks,

Stacey

My husband is a direct descendent of Theodore Parsons (Ira, Kenneth). We traveled to Oxbow, Saskatchewan this past summer and did some research at the local cemetary, as well as spoke to some of the old timers still living there. I also had a brief vistit at the Regina Archives where I researched a bit through the old Oxbow newspaper. Would be very interested in hearing from you.

Livingston(e) - Scotland/Georgia/Colorado

The 1900 Census for Boulder has a Donald Livingstone, born May 1863 in Scotland listed. He has a wife, Mary A, born Feb 1872, and there are three children all born in Georgia: Anna K, b Dec 1891; Flora J, b Aug 1893; John W, born Jan 1895.

Does anyone have any information on them - I am trying to prove that Donald is or is not my Donald, born May 1863 in Glasgow, son of Dugald Livingstone and Catherine McDonald. Or can you tell me how I can find records for them - I'm on the other side of the world. Thanks.

I have information on a Levingstone family in Ireland, who had a son John (1868-?) who came to the USA in about 1891. This John Levingstone started using the spelling Livingstone before the 1910 USA census. This John Levingstone/Livingstone married Hattie Leona Loonius in 1903 in Michigan, USA. This John Livingstone (formerly Levingstone) lived in Sheridan in Clare County, Michigan in the 1910, 1920, and 1930 USA census with his wife and the following children - Martha L, Homer M, William J, Emma M, and Floyd L.

I am looking for information about Martha Livingstone who emigrated from Ireland in 1829 to New Brunswick, Canada and married William Dysart in 1832.
We have information about her children and so on, but nothing about where she came from in Ireland,( may have been Armagh), or who her family was. I can't find any passenger lists for that year. She probably came into the port of Saint John. Her surname may have been spelt Leviston. Help!

James Livingstone - Master Blacksmith

Hello All,

Hammermen (i.e. blacksmiths and some other workers in metal). The Incorporation of Hammermen in Dunfermline, Fife is of great interest to me since the Minutes and Accounts of the Craft 1537 to 1841 may be a source that could throw some light onto an ancestor of mine - James Livingstone, who married Janet Cooper at North Church, Dunfermline in May, 1851.

On various Census papers, James gave his occupation as a Blacksmith Journeyman, his birthplace as Dunfermline, and his birthdate as c.1828. Surely, to be a Journeyman, James must have entered into an apprenticeship, probably when he was about 12 or 13 years of age. Wouldn't it be reasonable for me to assume that the apprenticeship would have been registered in Dunfermline, or am I really treading on dangerous ground making any such assumption?

Are there any kind souls out there who could pop into Dunfermline Library and enquire into that line of thought. Please don't think that I'm excluding other researchers from other areas from my line of thought. On the contrary, I would be delighted for any assistance and, naturally enough, work shoulder to shoulder with anyone in order to resolve the problem of who the parents of James Livingstone were and where they were living during James' apprenticship.

My very best wishes to you and yours,

Tom.

Dr David Livingstone

My grandfather told me we were related to the explorer through his maternal side. His grandmother was Janet Livingstone and was David'd sister. However, my research shows that our Janet was born 1827 which does not tally with David's sister dob of 1819. My Janet's father was Robert dob 1806 but I cannot find a Robert in the explorer's family tree which fits that date. So I am flumoxed. My grandfather was adamant that there was a relationship. Maybe it was more distant than he thought. Appreciate any help on the subject.
Angela

They went to Sheet harbor , N S. Siince so many from eastern Canada went to Michigan I thought I would write.
My grandfather said his family related to David Livingstone but so many said that, too, I have never taken it seriously.
Kay in Tennessee
