Thank you "Yorkshire Rose" - the glass works is a different business, but the area had a number of glass and marble works in it. The Marble works was essentially a stone-mason's works - possibly carving things like fire-place surrounds, statues, maybe monuments. I have found a couple of references to it in trade directories and Ann Lodge ran it until she was in her 70's. I am still looking for her husband (not sure of his name) and their family. Thanks for replying! Cheers, Louise

I found this very limited info I know but, may help you progress...Islington Glass Works
Birmingham, England (19th Century)
Listed 1803 as operated by Owen Johnson. 1849 became Rice, Harris & Son. 1860 became the Islington Glass Co. Some paperweights include canes lettered 'IGW'.

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=6HM6AQAAIAAJ&pg=PA183...
Hope the 2nd link works.

I'm seeking info on Ann Lodge, who ran the Islington Marble Works in Birmingham in 1841. I believe she is John Lodge's mother - John emigrated to NZ in 1939 with his wife and family. Does anyone know about the Marble works?

LODGE: in Hammersmith, London - c.1905

Christopher Henry Lodge Thomas was the son of Christopher Henry Thomas and Lilla Maud Lodge b. 1881 or 1882, who was the daughter of Stephen Lodge a Fruit Salesman who died prior to 1905, presumably in Hammersmith.

Christopher and Lilla Maud Lodge married in Wandsworth, London, 4th March 1905. A witness was an H Lodge, possibly Lilla Maud's widowed mother, or a sibling.

Does anyone know ANYTHING about Stephen Lodge, H Lodge, or Lilla Maud Thomas (nee Lodge)?

Thanks,

Best regards,

RouX

UPDATE:

(Arthur) Harvey Lodge was a pig farmer.

This Lodge line comes down from CANN, near Shaftesbury in Dorset. The family had been there at least from the 1700s, probably earlier.

The line may be connected to Lodge family members around the Portsmouth / Southampton area in Hampshire, UK. It is possibly an early line from the ancestral home, Loges in Normandy, France.

Does anyone here KNOW they are descended from the Cann, Southampton, or Normandy Lodges?

regards,

RouX

Perhaps, if you can find him, he may well be able to help.

If you do find a link though it would be nice to hear again as my younger brother is also trying to discover our roots.

Good luck, Steve

So far they all seem to be in Stanley Cum Wrenthorpe, Wakefield. Have got some further back but, as yet unverified poss from Flockton area, would need to do some more research . My Mary Lodge was born abt. 1885 I do have another abt. 1858 so afraid at this stage am able to help sorry. As you go further if you can relate to any places, areas, names etc. please get back to me, gladly exchange info. The Lodge message board doesn't to be a busy one.Maybe just a coincidence that we both have Lodge/Appleyard.

Hi, The Appleyard side of my family originated in Conisborough, so from what I have seen so far seems disconected from Wakefield. The name Albert is also missing from my tree at the moment.

On the Lodge side I have a Mary Lodge born 1873 Normanton, Yorks. She married a John Woodward in Campsall 5 Apr 1893. Both Altofts and Normanton are in the Wakefield Registration district.

Joseph also appears to have had about 10 kids between 1857 & 1875. The males I have are Walter (b 1857), Alfred (b1859), Henry (b 1860), Joe (b 1865), Benjamin (b 1870), Frederick (b 1875.

Or have you come across this lady at all? Albert was also from the same area.

I am seeking information about Francis Lodge, married to Nicholina (?Helena), b ca 1812. John Edward L may be a brother of my great grandfather Charles William L, b Kilkenny 1856. Other possible siblings include Francis Drake L, b ca 1847; Nina Helena L, b 1849, Margaret and Annette (who died young). Francis L is recorded on my G grandfather's marriage certificate as 'Farmer'. He was a child of the first (Irish) family of Rev Oliver Lodge and Dorcas Cromie. Rev Oliver had 3 wives and 25 children. The first child born to his third wife, Anne Supple, was named Oliver and he was the father of Sir Oliver L, b 1851 - your link to the notable physicist. I would really like to know more about the 'Irish' family.

There Were Lodges in Albany, More Guilderland area than Delmar. There was and is a LOdge street in Albany and a Lodge store. No longer connected to any Lodges - interesting old place though. There was a fancy city residence and branch of the faimly and a farm with another whole crop. My Husbands Grandparents are likely the generation after the one you seek info on. This generation has spread throughout Albany, Schenectady, and Schoharie counties, branching from there. Some are up around Cornell University, some down in New Jersey and there are some in Calafornia. I would be interested in Information you have gathered.

Hi,

I'm trying to find my father.

It's looking like he was a man called Christopher Henry Lodge-Thomas, b.1909, the illegitimate son of Arthur Harvey Lodge and Sarah Elizabeth Thomas. They (and my birth Mother) all came from the West Lavington and Easterton areas of Wiltshire, UK.

ONLY yDNA matching can solve this.
My great great grandfather, John Harris Lodge, born in 1832 in Manchester, Engalnd immigrated to America in 1849 and settled in Philadelphia. Married Hannah Thomas Gaul. Naturalized in 1863. Do not know if he came over by himself or with other family members. The trail ends there. His father maybe Thomas Lodge. No record of Thomas being in America. No help with 1832 birth records in England. He and Hannah had daughters, Clara who married a sulger and Amanda who married a Wallen. John and Hannah and their daughter Clara are buried in Fernwood Cemetery outside of Philadelphia. Lodges in Salem and Cumberland Counties in South Jersey are related to John Harris Lodge.

Terry Lodge tmlodge@hotmail.com
