SCHENEVUS — Dorothy Rose Loft, 81, of Schenevus died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

SCHENEVUS — Dorothy R. Loft, 81, of Schenevus died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
She was born Feb. 21, 1917, in Richmondville, the daughter of Andrew and Frances (Hayes) Sperbeck.
She married Dewey W. Loft.
Dorothy was a graduate of the Richmondville Central School and the Wilson Memorial School of Nursing in Johnson City. She has lived in Schenevus for over 50 years.
For over 40 years Dorothy was a dedicated registered nurse employed at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, the Oneonta Nursing Home and was Director of Nursing at The Meadows in Cooperstown.
She enjoyed watching the happenings of nature from her front window, knitting and crocheting. She also had the ability to grown beautiful African Violets.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dewey W. Loft of Schenevus; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Nancy Loft of Worcester, George and Inge Loft of Schenevus, and David and Sylvia Loft of Worcester; daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Richard Skinner of Horseheads; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold `Jack' and Margaret Sperbeck and Clifford `Kip' and Marjorie Sperbeck all of Richmondville; two sisters, Ulah Hamm of Worcester and Edna Sperbeck of Richmondville and many nieces, nephews, cous"ins and aunts.
She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Archie and David Sperbeck.
As Dorothy requested, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus, with the Rev. Bonnie McGraw pastor of the Schenevus United Methodist Church officiating.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, from 7 p.m. to service time at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Lung Association of Mid-New York, 311 Turner St., Suite 415, Utica, N.Y. 13501 or the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 272, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155.
Funeral arrangements are by Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.
