Eliza H. Lofthouse

Trying to find information on Eliza H. Lofthouse. I find her on the 1920 federal census with a Jacob M. & Stella Jane Lofthouse that could be her parents. She married a Jesse W. Hall in 1921 probably in San Francisco. Jesse showes up on the 1930 census and has a wife with the first name of Lyla. Her birth info is the same/similar to Eliza H Lofthouse on the 1920 census so I'm assuming it is her.
Jesse died in 1950 and I don't know if he was still married, divorced or she died but there is no info concerning her when he died.
Anyone who has any helpful information to share would be appreciated.

Herbert Lofthouse

My Great Granmothers sister Ethel May Gowing Married Herbert Lofthouse of Yorkshire. The only Herbert Lofthouse I can find was baptised 12.5.1878 Dallowgill, His parents were Thomas Edwin Lofthouse ( the watcher ) and Mary, Crosshills, Dallowgill. I know my great aunt was born 1889 but at the moment thats all the info I have. As I now live in Stockton on Tees and my partner is From Loftus, I thought i would try and find out more about this branch of the family, is this info of any use or does anybody know more. Thankyou Mandy

Harold Walter Lofthouse born 1910, Leeds

Hi

I'm after any info around Harold Walter Lofthouse born 1910, Leeds. He seems to have married a first cousin (2x removed) in Tonypandy 1942, Eva Brookstone, but this leads to a contradiction with other data. I think the other data is probably at fault, seeing as it relies on family memory, but anything to back it up would help!

Cheers

John

Family History

I am just now searching my family's history. My father passed away in 2006 and I dont know that much about that side of my family. His name was Gary Lee Lofthouse, born 06/14/1945 to Joseph and Betty Lofthouse. In my research so far, I know my grandfather, Joseph, passed away in 1974, in Illinois, which is where my father was born and raised also (Rockford, Ill.). I really want to discover my family's roots. I believe they branch from England and Germany. If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Grandfather is Joseph (middle name, not sure, but think it started with a W) Lofthouse. Had 3 sons, Gary, Danny, and Mark. Gary is deceased (my father), Danny is still in Rockford, and Mark is in Colorado.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Sincerely,
Gary Lee Lofthouse, Jr.
San Antonio, Texas

Yes absolutely, Most Brammas were from Yorkshire either Leeds or York. Since the name change from Bramal it makes it easier to connect family. In Leeds there was the Bramma Bros. millwrights. 1806 If you can go back even a couple of generations I might be able to connect some for you.

had to change the name etc.
thank you for your post. i will look forward to hearing from you and continue to sift through the posts i see here on the bramma name, so far.
though, i was born in surrey, it looks as if most of the bramma line came from further north. the arts run on both sides of our family line. most of our ancestors that i am aware of were whitesmiths, woodcarvers and master craftsmen. does that help?

Re: Lofthouse's in Kirkby Malzeard

My tree has such very strong connections with Kirkby Malzeard and Dallow Gill we must be related in some way - determined to get to the bottom of this one for some reason! We have three Georges, 1 born #1680, his son born ~ 1714, and his son born ~1743, all in Kirkby Malzeard. We have the latter down as married to an Ellen johnson (b. ~1743) but this could have been a second marriage, and there was a ? by it (I dont have a certificate for it).

If the latter is your george, he and ellen had at least 5 children (Elizabeth, Joseph, Robert, Ellen and Ralph.). In order to state he was your gggggrandfather, I assume you might have the names of Georges brothers and sisters? If we have the right tree, there is an entire Mormon town in Utah (called Paradise) which one of your distant cousins founded. I also have photos of the family farms in Dallow gill and KM, and can direct you to St Andrews Church in Kirkby Malzeard, where my Lofthouse ancestors and many others are interred.

A cousin intermarriage united two branches of a Lofthouse family - one decended from George (b ~1680), the other from a Ralph Lofthouse (b. circa same time). They were distant cousins, but we cant go back any further on Parish records. The Ralph I listed above (if he was your George's son) had 10 children (george/bridget/margaret/anne, henry, sarah, john, ellen, robert and anthony, all born in Dallowgill) and Anthony married one of his fourth cousins , Anne lofthouse (b 25 dec 1804/5), who was a niece of my direct ancestor.

These two Lofthouse families lived respectively at Knott Farm and Ladyhill farm, both of which are still standing, and which i will email you a jpeg of if things tie in with your family - do you have any more details about your George that might help tie this in definitely with my family? Please email at either nita.lofthouse@O2.co.uk or drlofthouse@lycos.co.uk as I'd love to know a bit more, and can connect you with other relatives in usa, canada, wales, london and australia

best wishes and rsvp :)

Emmeline was born in 1853 in Kirkstall, Leeds and Thomas was born in 1851 in Wood-something (?), Northamptonshire. They married in 1875 in Leeds and had 4 children that I know of; Beatrice, Horace Alfred, Mina and Annie. In particular, I'd like to know who Emmeline and Thomas's parents and siblings were.
Re: Lofthouse / Loftin Surname DNA project

Liz, thanks for the reply. Sorry, but there is no specific project for Lofthouse. If you go to the web site it will direct you to the Loftin project. However, this does not mean it can't serve your purpose anyway.

There is speculation that the names have the same origin and this would be one way of helping in debunk or prove this theory. As part of the project I am attempting to get several memebers with various variations of our Surnames to see what link there is if any. Some of the variations are as follows: Lofthouse, Loftus, Loftis, Loften, Loftin, Lofton.

Additionally, by joining the group individuals receive about $60.00 off the regular price. Also, to encourage participation I am willing to assist in paying for the test of at least the 1st memeber of any variaton of the Surname.

I have had several emails about interest in the project, however, all have been from females, who cannot be tested for the Male Loftin line or males with different surnames who have a Loftin in their ancestry. So please pass on the information to anyone with a variotion of the surname and encourage their participation.

I am not sure if you wished to have your DNA analyzed, but if you did I just wanted to let you know you cannot get your paternal line done. This is only for males. Males however, can have their paternal and maternal lines done. (Just costs a little more.) I would encourage it either way, becaus I enjoy my ongoing experience with the tests and it is interesting looking at the results and comparing them to others. The nice thing about the DNA is that it goes to a time before surnames, so you will get partial matches from distant cousins who have completely different names, but who come from the same region of the world.

Hope this has been informative to you and any others who may wish to consider being involved in the project.

Jeff Loftin

Lofthouse / Loftin Surname DNA project

I was wondering if anyone would like to participate in the Lofthouse / Loftin, Lofton, Loften Surname DNA Project. I recently had my DNA processed at www.FamilyTreeDNA.com and have initiated a Surname project in hopes other Lofthouse's / Loftin’s etc. would participate. Additionally, by joining the group it will save each person about $60.00, depending on the test.

There are several types of tests available, but I believe the most useful tests for genealogical purposes are the Y-DNA (Testing your fathers, fathers, fathers, etc. line) tests. There are 3 basic Y-DNA tests:

The Y-DNA 12 Marker Test:
Loftin Group: $99.00
No Group: $159.00

The Y-DNA 25 Marker Test:
Loftin Group: $169.00
No Group: $229.00

The Y-DNA 37 Marker Test:
Loftin Group: $219.00
No Group: $289.00

In my opinion the 25 Marker Test is the best to start out with. This is because with the 12 Marker Test you get a few too many matches. I think I had 166 Matches with the 12 marker test (One of which was to LOFTIS). With the 25 Marker Test I had no exact matches, but had 7 with a genetic distance of -1, and 57 with a genetic distance of -2. (The -1 and -2 does not mean they were only 1 or 2 generations difference). Without an exact match I don’t see the need for a 37 Marker Test.

My hope is that if we can obtain enough Loftin volunteers we can have a general idea about our families’ migration patterns, and can obtain a reasonable determination about what region our family originated from. This is due in part to the fact that our DNA will results go back to a time well before there were Surnames. Additionally, we can assist each other with adding some cousins to our family trees and may be able to tell how well connected the different spellings of the surname are connected.

If you are interested please feel free to email me or to check out the Loftin group project:

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Loftin

Jeff Loftin
My late grandfather was thomas percy lofthouse, born 1989 in either bethnal green or sw hackney. His mum was sarah, father thomas raper lofthouse (there is an entry for them and three children in the 1901 census which is online). He had 14 brothers and sisters, so at least 11 were born after 1901,

most of his siblings emigrated. one brother to persia, one to usa, a sister to australia, and another sister to argentina
does this connect with your mother? Would love to know

nita

Widow, Mrs Maggie Lofthouse,m. Anderson Hodges, 1884, Hickory Co., MO??

Maggie must have been a widow when she married my grt grt grandfather in 1884 at his home in Cross Timbers, Hickory Co., MO. They were married 18 Jan 1884. It was a short marriage. She left a few months after they were married and never returned. Anderson divorced her in May 1885, because she never came back, he remarried in July 1885. Does anyone have any history of this lady? I am curious of who her first husband was and if she had any children prior to marrying Anderson. Also if she remarried. I find no history of any Lofthouse's in that area. I would appreciate any help on this.
*THANKS* Gerald Hodges*ghodmgil@aol.com
