Hi would anyone be able to tell me how to find the old St Mary (Marie) cemetery in or near Marieville, Rouville, Canada. I spent hours yesterday going around in circles and everyone that tried to help me sent me back to the same cemetery, Soul Chemin Jesus, on Rou Saint Cesaire. I am looking for burial of Pierre Loiselle and is said to be in St Mary Cemetery in Marieville. The one in town on St Cesaire is too knew but one person told me there were two cemeteries. Thanks for any help you might have. Alan Lathrop, Bristol VT

i am from louisana, and i live just up the road on highway 182 east, which roadway runs between the towns of jeanerette, louisiana and new iberia, louisiana, and there was a loiselle plantation and a sugar factory that was named for the loiselle family and i have always heard that the surname of loiselle was pronounced wisell in french long ago by the french speaking people of louisiana. this was the plantation of jean louis loiselle, who came to louisiana from paris, france, and while jean louis loiselle was in attakapas district of louisiana, present day st. martinville, louisiana, he married the widow of Pierre Borel, Catherine toupard Borel, and they had one son, Nicolas pelagie Loisel, and Nicolas Pelagie loisel married eleanor provost and they were the parents of several daughters and one son who was handicapped. the land that comprised the loiselle plantation was originally the land grant of a son of the wife of jean louis loiselle, joseph borel, who sold a portion of the land to his step father, jean louis loiselle, and then after a few years of marriage catherine and jean louis loiselle were divorced in the city of new orleans, any information about jean louis loiselle, would be greatly appreciated, thank you

i am searching for any information about jean louis loiselle, who came to the province of louisiana in the late 1700's from paris, france, and he was married in louisiana to catherine toupard, who was the widow of pierre borel, and after marriage he purchased some land from joseph borel, who was a son of catherine toupard borel, and that was where jean louis loiselle and catherine made their home and presently that area along highway 182 between the two towns of jeanerette, louisiana and new iberia, louisiana bears the name of loisel and there used to be a sugar factory that was named loisel, which remants can still be seen today. I know that Jean Louis Loiselle and Catherine had one son, Nicolas Pelagie Loisel, who married Eleanor Provost, and they had several daughters and one son, who was handicapped. any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Hi Joni! I have some information that could be of some interest for you. It's regarding TOUSSAINT COTÉ and Catherine GAUTHIER/DELISLE, parents of CÉLESTE Côté (born 1819 - on Québec, Cda) married with Jacques LOISELLE (born 1820 - in Québec, Cda).

Catherine DELISLE (GAUTHIER) was twin with her sister, CÉLESTE, who was born & baptized on March 5, 1795, in BELOEIL (St. Mathieu parish),Qc, Cda. They were both baptized under DELISLE. Their parents are ANTOINE GAUTHIER (AUTHIER) dit DELISLE and Marie JUDITH CHAGNON (or Chaillon) dit Larose who married on March 2, 1778, in Beloeil, Qc, Cda. They are the eleventh and the twelfth (out of 14) of their parents' children baptized in Beloeil, Qc, Cda.

Catherine DELISLE (Gauthier) married Toussaint COTÉ on FEBRUARY 22, 1813, in BELOEIL (St-Mathieu parish). She died on July 20, buried on July 22, 1857, in ST-HILAIRE (close to Beloeil), Qc, Cda. She was 62 years old.

Céleste, her twin sister, married FRANÇOIS COTÉ (widower of Geneviève Marcil) on MARCH 1st, 1813, in BELOEIL, Qc, Cda.

Unfortunately, I don't have Jacques LOISELLE & Céleste COTÉ'S children' birth/batism, but if you search in St-Hilaire parish register, maybe you could find something.

The BLUE DROUIN books (men and women) are very useful to find your Quebec ancestors. They are the "ABC" for the genealogical research in Quebec, Cda.

Catherine and Céleste DELISLE (Gauthier/Authier) are the great-grandchildren of my first ancestor, Guillaume Gauthier dit Delisle (or de L'Isle) who married Marguerite (Marie) Masson on August 12, 1723, in St-Laurent (Montreal), Qc, Cda.

Good luck in your research.

steno777777@yahoo.ca

I hadn't heard that about the name Isabelle before. My mother's name is Nancy, no middle name, but her younger sister was named Isabelle. The story always told about my mother's name was that her parents were so sure the baby was a boy that they were in shock and couldn't come up with a girl name, and one of the nurses started calling her Nancy. Her birth certificate just says Baby Girl Scarborough. My aunt Isabelle (now deceased) named her oldest daughter Laura Isabelle.

When looking at your message again it made me remember that my grand-mother had told me all of the Halnon families had named their first daughters Isabelle and your mother fits into this line also. My grand mother was also a Halnon that married a Wisell, she was the first daughter but for some unknow reason was named Sarah Isabelle Halnon.

When I was a kid in Georgia, we never believed my grandmother Isabelle's story about the name originally being Loiselle. I live in California now, and work at UC Berkeley. I found a cousin I didn't know about on my father's side (Cottraux), too. I need to get my information organized, and when I do I will definitely ask you for help filling in the gaps.
I have Josephte Tetreault as Marie-Josephte Tetreault-she died before June 1752 because Toussaint remarried June 10, 1952 to Marie Louise Cote. I have only one child of Toussaint and Marie-Josephte: Prudent Loiselle-not sure if this is a male or female. Hope this helps somewhat. I descend from his second marriage to Marie-Louise Cote via -Jean Baptiste b. 1760 son Jean Baptiste-Sinotte b. 1795, son Jacques born 1820, son Joseph born 1848, son Joseph b. 1875, son Joseph Adolphe Leas b. 1901...
I have a Marie-Anne Beaudry b. 1701 d. 1753 m to Jean-Baptiste Loisel b. 1692 w. 9 children from TANGUAY and Marguerite Beaudry b. 1691 m. to Joseph Loisel w. 11 children from Genealogies of the principal families of Richelieu-Vol. II, "CD-ROM." They may be sisters but I have no further info on either of their parents. I haven't tried to connect them or look for any further info as I am strictly looking for the Male Loiselle link at this time-it gets too diversified if I stop and try to follow too many side searchings at the same time and I almost forget my track.. good luck--ps I own TANGUAY and The Richelieu CDs

Keep digging!
diane marie

Pat, they had no children. All of his siblings have gone now. He has 3 living nephews (Richard, Norman, Gordon Loiselle) and many grand nieces and grand nephews. I don't know anything about Margaret other than her name. I am the eldest child of Gordon. FYI

I hope by now you have been able to access the picture of the Loiselle family from 1918 in Amesbury, MA-if not--please try:
http://www.geocities.com/deeceeoh/paterpage.html

Victor Loiselle was the youngest son of 12 children of Joseph Loiselle b.1875 d. 1957 and Leonide Roy b.1882-d.1920. My grandfather was the eldest son of the same 12. Victor died on 1 June 2000 at the age of 86. Parents of Joseph Loiselle were Joseph Loiselle b. 1848 and Malvina Larocque b.1851-d.1889-someone in Canada did a lookup for me once and found a Joseph Loiselle married to a Malvina Larocque with a son Joseph b. 1875 but I have no hard copy or real documentation to indicate that it is MY Joseph. I would like to find where in Canada we are from-my father says he remembers a maiden aunt saying St. Hyacinthe, but the Joseph-Malvina marriage (1872?) is in St. Ephrem de Bagot-(sorry if spelled incorrectly) and I don't know if they are close enough to have been my Joseph and Malvina-to make it more interesting, it seems that Malvina had a brother Joseph-(not unusual with the strong Catholic connection)who married a Malvina Loiselle--sigh. I am really getting confused. HELP if you can please-
p.s. with naming patterns what they were i must add that 2 of Victor's sisters were named Ora and Cora and 2 brothers had the name Napoleon either first or second, and first child who died as infant was named Azilda, Exhilda or Ozilda-Joseph b. 1848 had a sister 1 year older named Azilda...very coincidental i must say-diane loiselle cooper

Dear Lady

Please excuse my poor english language...I'm a Quebequois...sorry

While much researches I done, I found that some Loiselle of Paspebiac migrated to the Canadian west.

My grand-father had also the first name of Felix...It's not the same than you.. Your Felix was borned before mine...so:

The firs Loiselle I found is Robert-Julien Loisselle. He had two sons: Robert and Jacques (James). I'm from the Robert's line, and you to ( Hi far cousine). So have a look trough the Loiselle from Gaspesia. Those from Montréal don't seem to be the sames. If you find a name as: Jeff Johnson maried to Karren Loiselle, Lake Drive Iron MN. Karen is related to Loiselles. In her line I find some Felix, and beginning by the younger, here they are:Felix (his father was George and Anna Johnson), Felix (his wife: Cordelia Gemain or Germain, his father was Felix with Salome Parisé, and his father was Simon with Agelique Delarosbil. The father of this last Felix was André Loiselle (Madeleine Lebrasseur), and the father of André was Robert (Anne-Elisabeth Roussy), and the first one in Québec: Robert-Julien.

So if you give me the name of your mother, I shall can help you more.

Bye

RéalT
