Hi there, I see in my family tree a Clarissa Dodge that married Thomas Lonsdale. They had a child Clarissa Lonsdale born in 1860.....is this your great grandmother? I am doing the Lonsdale side of the tree and came across your post.

Edmund Wright Lonsdale 1878 NSW Australia

Looking for any information on my GG Grandfather Edmund Wright Lonsdale born 1878 NSW Australia. He married Florence Mary Parkinson in 1893. He died shortly after 1949 as I can find no information for him after this date. Not sure that the date of birth is correct as that would only make him fifteen when he married. I have tried several searches and expanded on the date without success. Also looking for information on his parents. I have attached a Robert Lonsdale as his father but I am not sure that it is correct. Any and all help would be appreciated.

My GGGGG Grandfather was Joseph Lonsdale (1783) he was born or lived in County Durham,Ireland and died in Yorkshire Leeds. He was married to Sarah Cuxey in 1809. Need some help finding out who his parent where.
Hi Carlene.
I am researching Joseph's brother I think William Thomas L. I can't offer any insights into their children but know there is an inquest file at Public Records Victoria for Joseph's death & a court file for Catherine, apparently murdered. Keen to assist also to learn more about the Kent origins.

Hi Barry, Really nice to hear from you. I have been in touch with Trevor and Emma about the Lonsdale connection. I believe that Elzabeth b1820 could have been the younger sister of our Moses born 1806. Moses married Ann Bunton (Bunting?)November 5, 1831 who could have been a sister of William Bunting.
I have been over to Belfast twice to do some research at Proni and also used the Scotlands people website. I have your GGF Robert b may 1 1879 m Mary Elizabeth Mortimer in 1900 and I have visited your Uncle Roberts grave in Falkirk. The first record I have of a Lonsdale in Ulster is Thomas Lonsdale in 1692 but I cannot link Moses 1806 which I would love to do. An interesting Irish Lonsdale is John Brownlow Lonsdale who was an MP and Peer and almost certainly a relative. Send me an email at "stvnlnsdl@aol.com" and I will send you some more information. I would also love to hear what you have on Moses b 1870 and whether you have anything on his father, Thomas Lonsdale b1840 m Maggie Lowry. I live in England by the way.

Hi Steve,
My GF Robert, 1879 - 1934 was your GGFs brother. (My father was James Mortimer Lonsdale). I have some detail re his GF Moses, 1805/6 - 1870 which is probably much the same as yours. I have been in touch with Trevor Moffett, he gives: Thomas Lonsdale B. 1697. Thomas b, 1699, Moses b. 1750, Robert b. 1789 & Eliz 1820.
Eliz married William Bunting and their first daughter married a Moffett, hence the link.
I met an unrelated Lonsdale in the Yorks Dales and we discussed the possibility of Lonsdales leaving UK for Ireland in the 1640s (Protestant settlers/Catholic land/ the rebellion etc.)- interesting thought.
What is the title of the book you refer to?
Regards,
Barry Lonsdale.

P.S. I do not live in Scotland.

Hi Barry, we are related. Moses (with his one leg) is my GGF. I think the dates and information you have were supplied by me to Ancestry.com when I first started my family research. I have better dates and info now. Despite a couple of trips to Ulster I still can only get back to Moses born 1806, died May 6th 1870 in Kilmore. Married Ann Bunton Nov 5th 1831 Christchurch, Lurgan. I have 2 photos of Moses and would be very interested in your family line. You can email me at stvnlnsdl@aol.com.
I am also interested in contacting Trevor Moffat as he may help us get back to the first Lonsdales in Ulster who arrive in 1690. I have found a book that refers to this. Drop me an email when you can. regards Steve Lonsdale. p.s. do you still live in Scotland?

He has many brothers and sisters, Matthew, Sydney, Merle, Gaynor, and a few more. Their mother is Doris Lonsdale, not too sure what her maiden name is.

If someone has any information about this family and their heritage, please let me know as I would love to meet more of my family.
Discovered that the database on ancestry.co.uk for 1925 marriages in q4 is all wrong.
None of the names match the pages - and the pages / images are all mixed up. So anyone looking for a marriage in england in that quarter won't find it on here unless they physically look at every image to find it and ignore the ancestry index!

I have reported it to the support team, so hopefully will be resolved soon.

Many thanks though for finding that the entry did actually exist for me!

Laura

I am trying to trace William Lonsdale of Pontefract
Born around late 1889 in "Brierfield" Lancashire.
In 1925 he was living at 13 Mead Way, Streethouses nr Pontefract and was a "Colliery Byewayman" (whatever that is!)

According to the birth certificate I got this information from, he was married to a "Carrie Haigh" although I cannot find any trace of her what so ever, no marriage or even death details.

I know William died in 1978, and I think I traced his parents to Thomas Lonsdale and Elizabeth Dolby although I have yet to formally prove this.

Any information people may have on him would be brilliant.
Trevor,
My name is Barry Lonsdale. A common practice in my ascedentants is to use a surname as a middle name, hence the interest in the Lonsdale name in your message. Also Thomas, Robert & Moses are common family names so this suggests a link. I am stuck at Moses 1805, m. to Ann Burton (Bunten) no other information as yet. Lonsdale does not appear to be an Irish name and I am keen to discover whether the Lonsdales moved to Ireland from the UK mainland at any time. I would be very interested to see the information that you have regarding the Lonsdale side

Steve,
We have a link in our trees. Similar common names in Moses, Thomas and Robert et al. My immediate family is Scottish but originates from Ireland. I have Moses Lonsdale married to Ann Burton in ireland. Born around 1815 ish as his son Thomas b1845, married to Maggie Lowry b.1838/9. You refer to their son, your GGF Moses - he was my GFs (Robert) brother. Moses b.25/06/1870 in Kilmore Shankill, Lurgan No 1, Co. Armagh. d. 11/11/1931 (heart failure). m.
Hi Gordon:

While looking for an obit for a family member of mine I came across one for a Gordon Arnold Lonsdale, I noticed if first since the title for his obit says “Soviet master spy stole Britain’s secrets”

It appears in the Oct 13, 1970 Toronto Star and said he died last week near Moscow so I would guess he would have died the first week of October 1970 he was only 47. Anyway I thought I would share that with you, there is a picture of him he looks like a charming man I might have shared some secrets with him myself ha-ha.

Donna
I am researching two brothers John Edward born in South Australia in 1839 and Mark born in Melbourne in 1843. They are the sons of Joseph Lonsdale and Catherine Arnold.
Joseph was a convict born in 1811 in Kent England and Catherine born 1818 in Stillorgan County near Dublin in Ireland. They married in SA and came to Victoria, they were in Melbourne and then came to Castlemaine. Both Joseph and Catherine died in 1857.
John Edward and Mark were mentioned in a newspaper article in 1854 and then they have both disappeared.

I have an Anna Lonsdale who was probably born abt 1808 or within a few years who was supposedly from Lancasshire. I cannot find anything on her parents. She married Antween Beeco, but I believe they must have married in S. C. They started their family in 1830's in upper part of S. C. I don't have very much info to go on with the exception of what I just posted. Am looking to try and find someone with ANNA LONSDALE in their family who was born close to this timeframe. I would appreciate any consideration and reply if anyone might have any idea or suggestions. thank you in advance for any help. S.
Hi Carole,
My g g g grandmother was Martha Gilbertson who lived in Alborough and who married a John Brown in 1838 in Alborough parish church. The witnesses at their wedding were Thomas Brown and Isabella Gilbertson who I know was the sister of Martha. I know from your postings on Ancestry.com that you are descended from Margaret Gilbertson. I wonder if Martha and Isabella could have been sisters of Margaret especially as another sister Mary Ann was married to a Thomas Brown and both Martha and Isabella have a father called William Gilbertson (this information came from Martha’s wedding certificate). There are so many Gilbertsons around in Aldborough and Roecliffe (a nearby village) that it is hard to follow the trail. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. I grew up a few kilometres from Aldborough but now live in Western Australia so it is a little difficult to pop down to St Andrew’s Church to check parish records!

Regards,
Jacquie
Lonsdale, Hargreaves

Looking for Hargreaves/Hargraves Lonsdale, b. c. 1809 in Lancashire. Married Mary Somebody and had son William in 1831 in Yorkshire. I have no info on other children, Hargreaves died in Clitheroe in 1853, already a widower.
William married Ann Bell in Manchester in 1857 and they moved to NY state about 1864. From there they went to the Chicago area where they seem to disappear.
Would love to hear from anyone who connects! Gloria
