Seeking Descendants of Loomis/Seeley (William, Gamaliel, Asenath)

I'm searching for descendants of William Loomis and Asenath Seeley Loomis or Gamaliel Loomis and Asenath Seeley Loomis. Asenath married William Loomis in about 1795 and they were parents of 5 children. William passed away in about 1806. Later Asenath married William's brother, Gamaliel Loomis and they were parents of another 5 children. I would like to communicate with anyone who is descended from either of these families. I believe William and Asenath's son, William Loomis, could possibly be my ancestor but would like additional information. If you can help, please contact me. Thank you so much.
Stevens Point Wisconsin Loomis's

Hello all,

I'm looking for help finding any information on my great grandfathers family.

My Grandfather is Albert Joseph Loomis he has told us that he had a sister that is 1 or 2 years older named Helen Loomis. On his marriage license he listed his parents as Orland Loomis and Elizabeth Sumbar Loomis. My Grandmother (Alberts Wife) told stories that Albert's mother's maiden name was Witczak though.

The problem is that the birthday that he has listed with SS and his marriage license doesn't match the information I have found on here. On the 1905 Wisconsin State Census there is an Helen Loomis and Albert Loomis listed as ages 2 and 1. Which sounds correct but there is no one listed as Elizabeth or an Orland Loomis.

A Helen and Albert Loomis then show up again in 1910 Minnesota, with a Joe and Lizzie Lebeau, ages 7 and 5. We are not sure if this is a match but it appears correct.

I also know is that an Orland Steen Loomis is not the same Orland Loomis that I belive I am looking for because my grandfather said that his father died shortly after he was born.

Helen and Albert had a falling out after Helen married but I currently don't know the married name and Albert falls off the grid until he is married to my grandmother in 1934.

The last little bit of info I have on Orland Loomis is that he supposed to have had a brother unknown name and if family came over to north america through Canada into Wisconsin.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Joe Loomis

The old Loomis Homestead is gone. But if you turn onto Loomis Road south of Waterville about 3 mile and then go to the end of the road. Make a left turn and go maybe 100 yards there is a hill on the right hand side with a driveway just before it. This is where the house was. There is no trace of the house, but directly across the road in the brush you'll find the foundation of the old barn. The Lommis's are probably buried in the cemetary where rt 12 and rt 20 meet in Waterville, though the Headstones have been taken. They're buried along the fence on the left side as you look at the cemetary from rt 12.
My great-grandma was born in 1905 in Keslo (sp?), Washington. She had an identical twin sister, but her twin was killed at a young age. Mabel later married George Steele in WI in the 1920s. I'm trying to find Mabel's parents.. I believe John Loomis is her father and Millie is the mother. However, the mom was married many times and I can't find any record of her. At one point, I believe she married a Rudolph. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Thank you very much for your reply. From what we could find out is that Florence went to the Philadelphia school for the deaf and dumb also. Was she also deaf? Their child Thelma was adopted out to George Loomis when she was 4. She was my mother-in-law and would never answer questions about her family so we are kind of starting from scratch. Thank you for any info you can give us.

Well John M. was born 27 Mar 1863 in Smithfield, Pa to Erastus M and Jemima Jane Mcafee. Erastus M is the son of Theodorus Loomis who is #1685 in the Loomis history. Jemima the daughter of Samuel H Mcafee 1796-1881 and Hannah Riggs 1794. Florence is the daughter of William and Edith Brown. John M. had an earlier marriage to Lillie R. Pierce in 1891, but no children. Florence had three children Ella Elizabeth 28 Aug 1905, Denton W 1908, and Frank W 1910. She died before 1910.

John was a deaf-mute. The Troy Register from 7 Apr 1904 says "John M Loomis and Florence D Passage appeared at the office of Judge Charles O. Hoagland and requested to be married. The judge did not quite like the idea of joining a young girl for life, to a mute old enough to be her father, and so, after careful consideration of the case, he declined to do so. The man was much put out and the young woman seemed quite disappointed, but the judge was firm and so they departed, presumably to find some one who would be more compliant in the matter." when they married, John was 41 and Florence only 19. Florence died before 1920 and John was still living in 1930.

Hi; I'm not familiar with the Sarah you mentioned in that time frame but will do searches on her also. We had a Sarah Loomis B. 1617 who mrd Cpt. Nicholas Olmstead. Nancy Robbins was born according to her death cert. in VT and was mrd. to my gr, gr, grandfather Truman Loomis. I've researched the Allgars also way back and I've been finding more and more ancestors due to the fact that each generation DOUBLES..it gets mind boggling after a while but these lead back to Lords, Knights, Counts, Countesses, royalty and to castles! I'll email you at your email address and perhaps I can mail u the information..I'm hoping to put everything I've researched and saved on computer to a CD to send to people...much faster and less time as it'd take some time to email all the information I've saved. New searches keep showing up more ancestors, e.g. Whites, Blois, Allgar, and many more!

As you probably know, there is no Sarah like that in the Loomis book. Checking the grandsons of Joseph, there does not even seem to be a possible connection. The only exception is Thomas Loomis, son of John. He was married to Sarah White and died in 1688. His sons John and Thomas both died in Lebanon. Sarah would fit in that family. However, Sarah White remarried to a John Bissell and had a daughter Sarah Bissell. So I doubt if they would have two Sarahs in the family.

It starts from my grandmother Sarah Jane Mulligan. So far we have Allgar, White and Loomis in common. There is probably more. I would love to communicate directly to you. My email is my business name: lillyscustominteriors@hotmail.com. I am going to contact Bob Loomis also.

Probably your cousin, Lilly

Hi Betty. I am a Robbins with a connection to Sarah Loomis 1685-1720. She married Jonathon Curtis in 1710. All of these events took place in Lebanon, Conn. I don't know about Nancy--she is probably an aunt. I'll have to start checking on that. I have no parents for Sarah Loomis. Do you have any more info?

I am searching the deceasents back to Joseph and Mary Loomis who settled in Conn in 1639. I have him born in 1806 but am not sure that he was a doctor.

My quick research leads me to believe that Chauncey is a grandson of Honorable Frank F. Loomis born 26 Dec 1846. In the 1910 census, Chauncy Hookstra 1908 Nebraska was living with Arthur Allen and Gertrude in Pascaquola, Jackson, Ms. and listed as nephew. Frank Loomis has a daughter Mabel and a daughter Gertrude, both born in Nebraska.

Confusingly, Chauncy Hookstra is listed in 1920 with John Locher 1879 and Lillian K and listed as a step-son in Lovell, Jones, Iowa. I can only speculate that Mabel married John Locher and then died before 1920 and he remarried Lillian K.

Frank Loomis is the son of Chauncey Clark Loomis, son of Devester Loomis, son of Stephen Loomis, son of Stephen Loomis and Grace Loomis and so on.

I did find a tree on ancestry.com. I am sending an email to its owner, a descendant of Gertrude Loomis Allen.

I am in no way a member of either of these families, therefore I cannot answer any questions about them. I simply bought this photo at a local flea market in Arkansas. I will send the photo to the first person who can indicate to me that this is a member of their family, at no cost to you. (I think I can afford the $3 I paid for it and a couple of postage stamps *smile*)

On the front of the card it is embossed with "C.J. Corlett, Photographer. Scranton, Miss." And handwritten on the back of the card is "Chauncey age 2 years 2 months" in one person's handwriting; and another person wrote: "Chauncey Hookstra son of Mabel Loomis Hookstra".

The perfectly preserved photo measures 5x4" and on the card measures 6x9".
Hi Bob: Will forward info I've researched soon...who is your direct line from Joseph? Mine goes from Joseph who sailed from London in 1638 on the Susan and Ellen ship, arrived in Windsor in Aug. 1639 with 5 sons and 3 dau and wife Mary White, who was dau of Rbt and Bridget (Allgar). Their son Deacon John Loomis had Sgt. Daniel Loomis, who had son Josiah, son Francis, son Loren, and ends with my grandmother's father Truman Loomis. I've so much genealogy info that it will take a while to send via email as there are so many generations from both sides of the family. I'm putting it on computer so I can send what I have but don't have cable to put pictures on yet..hoping to get it soon. I can also mail info to those as I have made copies of the info in case computer crashes and also sent copies to cousins to keep on file so it's never lost. Our ancestry is filled w/history and quite interesting.

I have info I've researched on ancestries of Loomis in England, Europe, etc..however, there's quite a lot of it and too much to reply to on this message board. I'm asking if Loomis ancestors would email me their email addresses so I can forward the info I've saved on computer to them as there are several families that are part of our history and go back centuries! I also can mail pictures of what I have researched including pictures of Joseph's house he built in Windsor, CT which I and family visited some time ago. I'll be happy to emaill any info or forward thru the mail the lists of ancestors to you!

Thank you for the post.
My research comes from the book "The Loomis Family in America" and starts with Joseph and May coming to America, Joseph was born in Essex England in 1590. His parents were John and Agnes Loomis. He married Mary White in Essex (Aug 1614) and they had 8 children (Joseph 1815 Sarah 1817, Elizabeth 1819,Mary 1820,Deacon John 1822 (my progeny_, Thomas 1824, Nathaniel 1826, and Samuel 1828. I have them coming to America on the ship "Susan and Ellen" in April 1638 arriving in Massachusetts, but settling on the west side if the Connecticut River. I would love to hear more about the family in Europe and trace back further. Thank you. Bob Loomis

My direct line is from Joseph & Mary who settled in CT in 1649 & built the home..if you get a chance go see it! Have traced ancestry thru Loomis line to some interesting ancestors, including counts, countesses, Lords, Knights, etc., even thru Kings and Queens of Europe. To much to list here on this site..have it saved on my emails for my relatives so we have several who can keep line going on ancestry. If I had emails of Loomis family I send them all the info I've searched these last few yrs.also look up on Internet on The Loomis Gang..quite the group & book written on them!!

Onward S. Loomis

Continuing to go through my database alphabeticzlly, I come upone Onward Loomis, who was married to Ida M. Loomis #7834, daughter of Myrenus.

I find them in the 1900 census with three kids and then I find Onward in the 1880 census, son of Delmar and Harkenss Loomis. Unable to find Delmar in the 1850 or 1860 cesus, I finnaly find the family in Union, Adams, Iowa but the father is listed as Denman and the mother as Maria.

Well, in the 1850 census there is Denman Loomis living with Isaac Harkness in Peoria. So I believe that is #1749, and also that the S stands for Sylvester, which is what the Loomis history said as well, that Onward Loomis was (#4102).

One discrepancy is that both the 1870 and 1880 censuses have him as born in 1829 in Ohio whereas the 1850 census has Denman born in 1820 in NY. I still believe that Denman is the father, but I am not sure why the age was wrong in two censuses.

I am currently working on Pruda (Prudence) Parker Stedman, Levi's wife. I found her mother Susanna Hall but so far nothing on Stedman.
