Dear Sharon,

Do you know any more about the Pierre Lorrin -b. December 16, 1704? I saw somewhere he died leaving no descendants and wonder whether this is based on fact or assumption because no further record could be found for him. Hulin is my primary line of research and we are stumped for the origins of a Pierre Hulin who appears in the Illinois, having been granted lands in 1724. Just a wild thought, knowing French descendants sometimes carried the surname from a maternal line to keep the name from disappearing.

Regards,

Susan Hulin Berry, in Louisiana
Lorrain Girard marriage Trenton Michigan

Found this marriage in the records of St Joseph church Trenton, Wayne co. Michigan:
May 1878 Moses Lorrain son of Toussaint Lorrain and Marie Livernois and Ida Girard daughter of Narcisse Girard and Adele Lemay.
Narcisse Girard went by the name Nelson Girard. Ida I believe was actually named Adele like her mother but went by Ida. Also Moses I believe was actually Theodore Moses Lorrain.
I have also been told that Moses may have changed his last name to Laurell. I would like to know what happened to this couple. Did they have children? When did they die? I beleive Ida may have died young as she is not mentioned as a surviving child when her parents died in the late 1890s in Tuscola co. Michigan.

Thank you. I have looked at the Pierre Thiery Lorraine line and was hopeful it was my connection to the family. The dates seem to fit but I am trying to prove the marriage of Andrew (born about 1820) to a Sophia. Their children were Joseph, Charles, Irving, Ellen, Andrew, George, Frank, Harriet, Mary, Rosan, Andrew and Lucy. I suspect their given names are angelized in the U.S.

Sophia came to the U.S. first to Watertown, NY as best I can find but without her husband Andrew around 1860 so I suspect she had been widowed and came to the U.S. for family support of her parents or siblings. It is only my guess. Do you know where I might find a record of mariage circa 1840-1845 that might help me prove the relationship? I thank you for your help.

Lorrain from France

Looking into my family tree I found that the earliest Lorrain I have comes from France (I don't know which region). His name was Pierre Lorrain (Lorin-Lachapelle), married to Françoise Haulin in 1656 in France (exact date and place are unknown). They had at least 1 son named Pierre-Thierry Lorrain who married Marie Matou in Montréal, Québec 29 July 1686.

My grandmother was a Lorrain, whose grandfather was from France. We, just this week, had a visit from our Lorrain relatives from France. We are descendents of Auguste Lorrain. I would like to know if you are a part of our family, too.
