I am the grandaughter of Charles Glenn Lough born in Nebraska to Dolly and Issac Lough in the early 1890's.

His family was in Illinois for quite some time. He was one of I believe seven children. The Uncle Earl I remember lived in White Plains Michigan or Indiana.

Let me know should you think we are referring to the same Earl.

Sandra

Florence E. Lough married to George T. Arnold per 1930 in census CA ??

Hello,
I was looking for information about Nellie Rae Arnold and her husband George T. Arnold.

I just found that George T. Arnold was married before marrying Nellie Rae (which I believe married a Leo Hyde before marrying George). George's draft notice says he was married to Florence Elizabeth...and in the 1930 census it shows him married to a Florence E. Florence's father (Edward J. Lough) was living with George/Florence in San Raphael in Marin CO, CA. They had a son Edward G....age 11 born in CA.

George Arnold married Nellie Rae Hyde (maiden name Fields) Dec 7, 1940.

In the 1930 census Nellie Rae is married to a Leo Hyde in Lyon Co, KS.
Leo age 49
Nellie age 30
daughter Imogene age 17
Edward age 15
Frances age 8 (female) Frances is mentioned as a surviving daughter in Nellie's obit from Nov 1987...Frances Thiel living in Montrose CO.
Barbara age 1 1/2... Barbara Lue Hyde shares the headstone with Nellie/George Arnold in the Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael. dates 1928-1969

If anyone knows about George Arnold being married to Florence Lough (1st marriage)and what might have happened to Florence and their son Edward that would be nice.

Also, anything about George's second marriage to Nellie Rae Hyde (Fields) in 1940.

Nellie Rae Fields was the daughter of Cora Belle (Westfall) and Lewis Fields. Cora Belle was my great grandmother's sister. (11 Westfall siblings)

Thank in advance for any help in solving this branch of the family.
Anna

I received an e-mail from the author: Loughs in 2006. It said that it had attachments of my family but it did not. And I didn't receive the e-mail until two years later. When I wrote back the e-mail was never replied to. If anyone of the Lough families sees anything familiar with my family, please contact me. My family was Thomas Murtagh and Ellen Brennan. They had Rose, Michael, John, William, and Patrick. They lived in Bogginfin, Ballymurray, Roscommon from 1919-1940. Before that, they were in Collooney, Co. Sligo. Any help would be most appreciated.
THank you,
Mary

I am researching Loughs and read your post with interest.
I don't have a Lough as a direct ancester but a William Emery Lough married my great grandmother Ellen Mary Roe (London, England, 1874). Sadly he died two years later, leaving one son William Richard Lough. So my gt grandmother married again and had five children, one of them my grandfather.
Working backwards, I have found William Emery's father was John Fothergill Lough, and John Fothergill's father was Matthew Bell Lough.
I THINK Matthew Bell's father may have been Rev John Lough, vicar of Sittingbourne, Kent. (I'm waiting for various wills to come back to me, which I've sent for, which I hope will clarify this situation). Going online to Google Books, I have found reference to a John Lough, clergyman of St Peter's Church, St George, Bermuda, descendant of Rev John Lough, born Westmoreland 1756 and rector of Sittingbourne, Kent.
Don't know if I'm putting 2 and 2 together and making 7 here, or maybe this is correct. Do you any ideas?

Thanks
Jan Webb
Oxfordshire, England

Hi all,
I'm in Australia and my Lough line came here via Willam Lough, exiled for stealing a round of edam cheese with his brother, Thomas. I have the 1844 trial papers (fascinating reading). They were only young and although William was transported (in 1848 after years in Parkhurst), Thomas was not. They lived in 19 William St at the time with their parents, John and Christian (Nee Gordon) and were chimney sweeps. Their older brother John lived at no. 15 for years after that. They also had a sister called Elizabeth but unfortunately I know nothing of her.

The Scottish census says father John was born in Berwick-on Tweed.

I haven't found any details of Loughs associated with this family nor their anscestors. Any help here would be fantastic. Thanks!

My interest is an an Ellen LOUGH who married Robert Hastings in Clermont co. 1 Aug 1833. A Robert and Ellen Hastings later turns up in Hancock co IL in 1850, Lewis co. MO in 1860 and 1870, Shelby co. MO in 1880. The death certificate of their son indicates his mother's name was LAWS. I'm trying to figure out if this is the same couple. Any ideas?

No, I don't think so. Since I posted this, I've learned that the Lowe and Lough families in Clermont County were two different families. I'm still looking for who Alexander B. Lowe's parents were, though.

Do you have any information on the Lowes?

Johannes Andrus LOUGH

I recently found the Revolutionary Pension papers of Johannes Andrus LOUGH (Foot Note). This man was known as George LOUGH, Andrew LOSHE, Johannes Andrus LOUGH, George LOYH, Andrew LAUGH and John LOUGH.

It was stated that "his signature was almost illegible" and that he was living in Wheatfield Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, age 76 years, 2 months and 11 days. This would place his birth date as 27 OCT 1762.

Does anyone have more on this man? I saw an old post referring to a Johannes LOUGH and the person was wondering if he was the father of John LOUGH who married 1st, Elizabeth SPEEDY and 2nd Jean HART, so this Johannes was not his father.

Judy

I Evelyn and her sisters were, but I am not sure about her father: Frederick George Lough. There is no indication of him in the 19th Century Register of Bermuda. There is a possibility that he was, cause a possible match received showed him from Tyne & Wear Durham England.
