Many, many thanks for this information! We had given up hope of developing leads. Cyrus Loveless was my wife's ggf. He had three surviving children by his first wife, Helen Burcher, my wife's gm Grace being the youngest among them. After Helen's death, so the story goes, Cyrus got Mary pregnant -- she was far younger than him and working as his housekeeper. He died in a car accident a few years after the marriage to Mary. My wife's family knew of the existence of Ruth, but didn't know her name or anything about her. They didn't even know Mary's last name. But they've always wondered about cousins and such from that second marriage. Ruth, of course, would have been my wife's great aunt.

Do you know whether Mary remarried? I have had no success in trying to find her after Cyrus's death. If there were any way to make contact with Mary and Ruth's family, my wife and her relatives would be forever grateful.

You can contact me directly by email at don_a_howard@comcast.net, should you be comfortable doing so.

Don Howard

She was my mother's first cousin. Cyrus W. Lovelace (1856-1927) married Mary Rutledge (b. 6/23/1890) on 1/28/1909 in Elmira, NY. Ruth Irene Lovelass was born (based on Census records) later that year (1909). That's all I know about her.

Hi Ann

I think we must be related in some way. My Mother was Muriel Brasington nee Cook. Her Mother (my grandmother) was Alice Louise Loveless (b1888). Alice's father (my great grandfather)was Arthur Loveless. Alice was married to Alfred Earnest Cook. Alice had sisters called Dollie and Cis (or Cissy). Dollie's maried name was Legg. When my mum died I found a handwritten note among her possessions about the William Loveless and Judith Loveless (nee Jeanes) that you mention. It read as follows:

"William & Judith (nee Jeanes)
>> B.1829 1827
>> (Parish Clerk Leigh)
>> Census 1851-61-71"
Regards
Russ

Hey! When my mother died about 11 years ago I found a note in her possessions mentioning William and Judith (nee Jeanes). It must be the same people. Do a google search on my name (Russ Brasington) and you will see some archived roots web posts that I did about it at the time. The William was a Loveless. My mum always used to say we were decended from the Tolpuddle Martyr Lovelesses. She used to go to the Tolpuddle Rally every year (the trades union march) and was very proud of our connection. However, I think she said before she died that another relative had researched and we were 'cousins' of the tolpuddle martyr lovelesses.

I have been tracing my husbands family tree (Loveless) and I found that there was a Henry Loveless (born 12-9-1812) married to Elizabeth Barnes and they had one child James K. Born Dec. 18, 1844 and died Jan. 15, 1914 in Pike County, In. Henry was also married to Susannah Winkler before Elizabeth and I think they had 7 children. I have not been able to find much on them yet.

I am trying to find the parents of Edie Emaline Loveless from Pike County. She married Henry Ferdinand Knier on 2-1-1887. She has a brother or half brother Jonathan Loveless b. 1857. Family thought Henry Loveless b.1829 was father and Elizabeth was mother. There is a Eda Emaline Loveless on the 1880 census but that information has not led anywhere. Would appreciate any information as I have hit a wall!

Thanks for posting this information! Is there a place that I can see this yearbook? I do not have a picture of my grandfather.

My grandfather was William Carl Loveless (1886-1922) of the James of Tishomingo line:
< William Asbury Loveless (1855-1917)
< Quinton James Loveless (ca 1819- 1862)
< James Loveless of Tishomingo County, Mississippi (1796-1851)

Here is a family story about him, written by his sister, Myrtle Loveless Foster:
"Carl attended Southwest University in Georgetown, Texas. He was a Pre-Med student and in 1908 entered the State Medical School in Galveston, Texas, but after a short time came home to assist Dad in the business world.
In the meantime, he (Dad, William Asbury) had purchased the City Drug Store in Miles, and then it seemed the entire family decided on a Pharmaceutical life. Carl, Curtis, and Loyal became Registered Pharmacists, and Cletus was working to that end when his health gave way, due to gas in France in World War I. Pearl and Maurine, also, made strides in that direction."

Carl married Minnie Pearl Williams in 1915 and the family moved around Texas. Four children were born - in San Angelo (Jane Carlton), Miles (my mother, Martha Virginia), Godley (William Carl), and Miles (Minnie Pearl, aka June).

Carl died in Trent, Taylor County, in 1922 of erysipelas - the cause of death on his funeral record. My mother always said he cut himself shaving and the infection spread to his brain. Even though he and his brothers were pharmacists, they did not have access to what would be used today to stop the infection - penicillin had not yet been "discovered" and wasn't widely available until after WWII. He is buried in Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur, Wise County, Texas.

His death left his wife with four small children, ages 6 and under. She then moved to Decatur to live with her mother, Minerva Jane Thompson Williams.

Re: any loveless from Pine Apple, Ala

Hello Wendy,

Zannie Loveless was my uncle. He passed away earlier this year and was interred in the family gravesite in Old Texas, Alabama. I do not know much about the Loveless side of the family other than Zannie's father was named Zannie Loveless, SR. He was murdered when Uncle Zannie and my father were children. I believe I have traced some of the Loveless family lineage but I am not sure I am going in the right direction. Zannie Loveless Jr.(1953-2009) was the oldest of five children Zannie Sr. had with his wife Laura Lymon(married December 1952). Laura Lymon was born in Old Texas, Alabama abt 1932 and was one of 17 children of John U. Lymon(1889-1973) and Martha Lymon(DOB unknown however she was half black and half native american). Laura Loveless would later remarry and was known as Laura Benson until the time of her passing in May 2008. She and her family lived in the towns of forest homes, awin and Pine Apple, Alabama. Hope this helps.

Loveless Info Needs Adopting

I was “gifted” with a box of genealogy having to do with one of my family lines after a researcher passed away. In the box is also a lot of other family lines that aren’t mine. I’ve sorted them into folders as best I can and here are the surnames and a little about them if I can tell much.

Buttrey – Wilkes Co NC (small file – letters)
Bailey – Topeka Kansas, New Castle, Pa, Youngstown, Ohio (small file, letters)
Loveless – Columbus Ohio, Washington Co., Va (small file, letters)
Wilderich – Henry Wiederick or Wilderick, b Germany 1858, pedigree chart (small file)
Hildebrand – Morgan County, Missouri, John Hildebrand b 1822 in Baden Germany m Victoria Anhauser or Enghauser – (thick file, quite a bit of research)
Trabuc/Trabue – Edward Trabue b 1764, son of John, married Martha Haskins, Jessamine Co., Ky and Va.
King – Joseph King m 1819 to Frances, Lincolnshire England
Nichols – Abner JeffersonNichols b 1837 probably Alabama, poss Missouri or Ark. (one letter only)
Swallow – from England, possible Liverpool (one letter only)
Brown – a few pages of general research
Burton/Cecelia – Philadelphia Pa, research log only
Rouse/Buler – Geoge Rouse and wife and grandfather Daniel Barlow born in Va near Culpepper Court house and moved to Boone Co Ky. (2 pages)

The ones below seem to be grouped together as I've grouped them. I would presume that these files in the groups would go to a researcher as a unit.

Group 1:
Smith – Thomas Leslie Smith, Missouri, born Pittsylvania Co, Va to John Wesley Smith and Sally Saunders Claytor Leftwich
Leftwich – Bedford Co., Va.
Gregory – includes Minter, Adair Co., Ky, other Ky counties, Powhatan Co, Va., John Gregory Rev War Vet, (quite a bit of research)
Minter – Fayette County, Ky, Powhatan Co, Va. (also in the Gregory file)

Group 2:
Bolander – Stephen Bolander b 1756 Lancaster Co Pa m Magaretha Shinkle (small file, letters)
Shinkle – Colorado, South Dakota, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa and Illinois
Bush – Catherine Bush m Philip Jacob Shinkle in Brush Valley, Center Co., Pa. (one letter only)
McConnell – Arthur in Washington Pa, then to Ky, Ohio and Indiana and then his children and grandchildren to Illinois and Iowa, John McConnell served in War of 1812 from Ohio Militia, Brown Co. Ohio
Luing – intermixed in other files
Watson – two lines, one from Oxford who never left England and one from York and Lincoln who came to the western US in the 1920s (small file, letters)
Wyatt – intermixed in other files
Logan – in the same file as Gregg, Pennsylvania, Jefferson Co., Indiana
Gregg – in the same file a Logan, Pennsylvania, Jefferson Co., Indiana

Group 3 – the familes below are all intermingled in one file – Kittaning, Armstrong Co., Pa, Mercer Co., Pa, various Pa, Va and NC counties, also Missouri,
Hellam – George Curtis Hellam m Mary Ellen Hawk
Peat – Oran Peat b 1899 m Gutherie Faye in Pa
Hawk – Daniel Hawk m Magdalena Bricker
Welton – intermarried with the above families

Group 4
Godley – Quaker, Farquier Co, Va, Georgia, Anderson Co., Tx (much research) – also see Peacock
Peacock – from Nottingham England, never came to America, Elizabeth m George Godley and their dau Sarah came to the us in 1924.

These are yours for the price of postage. First to e-mail me, first to get the file. Let me know which files you want.

Roberta Estes
Willis J. Loveless of Illinois

I'm researching Alice Jane "Allie" Roy of Illinois who first married John Hamilton around 1890 and then Willis J. Loveless after John's death in 1903 in Coles Co., IL. Alice and Willis who was born in Illinois are married in the 1910 Denver, CO census. Also in the household are Alice's 2 sons Lester and Cedric Hamilton. Alice and Willis seem to have gone their separate ways after 1910. Alice is with her son in 1920 and listed as married. Can't find Willis. Alice is alone in 1930 in Colorado but listed as a widow. Does anyone know anything about this Willis J. Loveless and what happened to him. Were they divorced or did he die? Thanks you for any help.
