African American Loving(s) from Nelson County, VA
I am doing some research on my stepfather's family. Thus far, I have found that:

Charles Lovings (my great-grandfather) of Texas was born to: John Loving of Nelson Co., VA and Alice Daniels of Dime Box, Texas. The two married in Fayette County, Texas in 1894. Charles' siblings were: Shearly, Willie, Lonzie, Melvin, John Jr., Jessie, Mabel, twins Mattie & Birdie, Joseph, Blanche and Horace.

John Loving was the son of: George and Susan Loving, presumably of Nelson County, Texas, based on census records and some deduction. John Loving's siblings were Charlie, George, Jesse, Chris, Fred, Rosie, Fannie, Adeline, and Martha.

Based on family information, it seems that John moved to Texas as a child, namely Ledbetter, where he was able to acquire land and become a farmer. It is unclear when or why the S was added, though my grandfather (Charles' oldest son) says it was done somewhat arbitrarily by only some of John's children.

I am seeking more information, particularly as it relates to John Loving and his parents, George and Susan. I live in Maryland, so it is not far fetched for me to visit Virginia. We always thought the family had origins in Texas, so finding these Virginia ties is exciting!

Thanks in advance.

J. M. Loving and M. J. Loving--Texas/Oklahoma

I am looking for any information on J. M. and M. J. Loving, who were husband and wife during at least the 1890s and into the early 1900s. I don't know much, not even what their initials stood for, but they were in Clay County, TX during this period, although I've lost them after the early 1900s. In 1928, M. J. Loving was living in Walters, OK. I can find them in deed and court records, but not in censuses. I don't know if they had any children. Any help in solving this mystery would be appreciated!

I am looking for information on the father of Tennessee and David Loving, who were born in TN and moved to Arkansas with their families. The father is William Loving, supposedly born in SC, according to son David's 1880 census record. Who were William Loving's parents? The only SC Lovings in early records do not fit. Numerous Lovings in NC and VA, but need to find the tie-in. Thanks!!!

An Old Textbook owned by the Lovings

Appears in the "Ravia Herald" 12 September 1905, Ravia, Johnston County, Oklahoma

AN OLD TEXTBOOK

Walter, Oklahoma, September 6 – Upon the death of S. A. Loving of Nocona, Texas, J. M. Loving of this place will become the owner of one of the oldest textbooks now in existence. The book is a combination arithmetic, grammar, speller and reader, and was published as a school textbook in the year 1781.

The book was first used by William Loving, five generations ago, Loving and his eight brothers and sisters learning their letters from its pages. Upon the death of the book’s first owner it was presented to a son, Miginson Loving, who was one of the members of the Texas Legislature in the early days. In the book it is recorded the birth of the Texas legislator, who wore homespun jeans made by his daughters.
Jean LOVING - ca 1941 - Chicago, IL

Hi all! I have a Lost and Found on my website, where I post items that MAY be possible for people to link to their families. Since I've come across a LOVING, I thought I'd post and try to find it a home.

The item is a photo of Jean LOVING, a drum majorette at Hyde Park High School in Chicago, dated 2/6/41. This is one that I may have an extra hard time finding a home for because it's the most expensive thing I've ever bought, but it was worth it to keep it out of the hands of the woman who planned to cut it up to use as "altered art"! :-)

I AM trying to sell it, but only for the price I paid for it plus shipping - and if you don't want to buy it, you can still take a copy of it from the site, free. You can see it at http://annalovesbooks.com/lostfound14.html and the entire Lost and Found at http://annalovesbooks.com/genealogy.html

Thanks!
Anna

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 6 October 1904, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

"JUST FOR FUN"

Roanoke, Virginia: Detectives arrested Gussie Loving, a 10 year old white girl near Dunlow, West Virginia, charged with wrecking a Norfolk and Western passenger train. The train was wrecked by striking a bolt nut placed on the rail. The engine and baggage and mail cars were derailed and went down an embankment. The engineer, fireman and mail clerk were all more or less injured, when arrested the girl admitted her guilt and said she put the nut on the track "just for fur, to see the train mash it."
They appear on the 1850 Virginia census and then 1860 in Dallas, Texas. C. M. lists his profession as a lawyer. Their daughter, Lucy, who is listed with them in 1860 is my Great-Grandmother. She married Larwood Smiley Alcorn 7 March 1877 and her first son, William Edward, was born 24 Oct 1878 in Hangtown (Placerville), California. I know they appear on KY. census records but, I would like to know if there are legal documents as well.

Thanks in advance for your time,

Tracey Lovings

Does anyone happen to know what the curse is about and who it supposedly is directed at? Another thing I am interested in is the supposed fall my great grandmother Virginia Jennie Lear suffered at the hands of Henry(Harvey) Green Lovins? Is there any truth to him being a crazy old fool?
And did my grandfather Alfred Lovings actually shoot a man (men) in cold blood and run off to Illinois to save his butt? Any family members out there willing to give me some information on my "crazy" family would be greatly appreciated.
John Loving/Charlotte Perkins daughter in Rutherford Co., TN?

I have never found any lising of children born to John Loving and Charlotte Perkins, however, there were two children under ten (1 boy & 1 girl) in his household in 1810 in Rutherford Co., TN. In 1820, the female in his household seems the age to be his daughter, rather than Charlotee Perkins. In 1827 there was a Nancy Lovin who married James Barber in Rutherford Co., TN.

Does anyone know any other Loving/Lovin family besides John (b. 1785, son of Thomas Loving/Lovorn etc.) who lived in Rutherford Co. during that time period? John was still there near his sister Mary Loving Pace in 1820, but he moved to Henderson Co., TN by 1830. By 1840, John had eight children in his household, at least three of whom were gone by the 1850 census which names the oldest of children we know about.

Does anyone recognize the name Nancy Lovin(g) Barber in their family tree? Does anyone have Loving brick walls in or around Rutherford or Henderson Counties who would have been born and grown before 1850?

Courthouse fires destroyed any hope of finding a will that would name John's children, and if there was a family Bible, I've never seen it. I would love to discover his "missing" children. Does anyone have a copy of the Lovings in America book that they could check for Nancy Lovin Barber and/or for Lovings of unknown origin in Tennessee?

Thanks so much for you help.

Ellen (John's gg-granddaughter)

Lovings In Williamson County, Texas

My search for my great-uncle's gravesite found him buried in the Loving family plot in Round Rock, Texas. There are 10 graves in this plot. I've been able to piece some info together, but am unable to find out any more so far. My great-uncle was Hugo H. Raven. Next to him is Elizabeth Loving, wife of Hugo Raven, Sept. 3, 1840-Feb. 21, 1918. She was previously married to a John A. Loving (no other info). A son, Samuel E. Loving, April 20, 1868-March 7, 1953 (military tombstone-Samuel E. Loving, farrier, 1st Texas Cavalry, Spanish-American War). He was apparently married three or more times: tombstone-Infant Son of S.E. & Clara Loving, June 19, 1891-June 19,1891; tombstone-Ruth Loving, wife of S.E. Loving, April 8,1882-June 20, 1902; tombstone-Hattie M. Loving, Dec.29, 1879-Nov. 8, 1949; tombstone-Hugo Loving, Aug. 16, 1910-Feb. 2, 1912 (son of S.E. and Hattie Loving).
There are three more tombstones in the plot I have found nothing about: Bonsilene Stiles, 1913-1944; Mary Loving Cahill, Feb 12, 1915-July 29, 1997; and one tombstone with only the name Barbette, Dec. 19, 1899-Aug. 5, 1973.
Even though they are not blood relations, I would appreciate any info about them.

I'm looking for a connection between Oliver Loving of the Loving/Goodnight Trail fame and my g-g-grandfather, William Ransom Loving (m. Belinda Brown). I didn't know of any connection to Oliver until I recently read a letter written by my great aunt to my grandmother in which she calls Oliver "our great uncle." I've read on a Texas history site that Oliver, his brother, and brother-in-law moved their families to Texas in 1843 from Kentucky. Does anyone know the name of the brother and/or the brother-in-law?

Russ and I have been working on the Bonds genealogy for several years. I have most of my genealogy in a GEDCOM format. Russ has done everything the old fashioned way... paper and pen.

What I am wondering is if your information has been compiled in a GEDCOM format. This would save me many hours of manual imput. Russ is able to send me a copy of the genealogy lineage but only on paper.

Please contact me if this is in any way possible.

Sincerely,

Dee Dee NeSmith Bonds
bonds006@charter.net

These are a few of the surnames I am interested in:
Aycock, Bonds, Bradberry (Bradburry) Brooks, Carter, Cowart, Chastain, Fann, Jones, Loving (Lovin), NeSmith (Naesmyth), Pendley, Stutts
Looking for a John D. Loving. I have that he was born in Mexico, came to Arizona, not sure when, and later went to California. Married to Ella Elizabeth Murphy around 1915. Was divorced in 1927 and he may have remarried. Someone told me they had them in a family book from Texas, but never heard anything else on them. Would love any information.

Thanks, Jan

DATA: Loving, F. B. listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):

Loving, F. B.

There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.

If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Anne Loveing.....Thurston family

I am posting the family of Edward Thurston who married Anne Loveing #1 on 10-28-1666 at Martins Hundred, Virginia. He married #2 Susanna Perry on 9-03-1671 the d/o Nicholas Perry. .........Anne Loveing was the d/o Thomas Loveing.

I have a few children for the Edward Thurston family. I have an Edward, Jr. who married on 8-31-1706 to an Elizabeth Housden of Nansemond Cty. (assume Virginia) Elizabeth was the d/o Rev. Thomas Housden. Edward, Jr. would have to have been the s/o Ann Loveing. #1 mg.

John Thurston, Jr. born 12-02-1668, states that he was the s/o Edward and Anne Loveing. He married Ellinor (..........): CARY, the widow of John. They married on 9-23-1690. ALL of this information taken from a book in the library.

My interest in this is Duel Thurston and his brother Francis Thurston, who married Easter, Esther, Hester ..last name Richards. She was born in Goochland Cty. Va and married in Goochland Cty.Va 1-04-1757 in Goochland Cty.Va. Francis Thurston died bef 5-16-1774 as will probated 5-16-1774.

I am looking for the parents of Duel and Francis Thurston. I think it "should be" Edward, John or William Thurston....guess work! I am hoping that one of the children of this Edward could have had a son Francis or Duel who were probably born c1710-1725 . If you see this in your research, Please, Please........let me know. Thank you. Ann

The Loving Family 1700's-1800's in Virginia??? Maybe married into the Simpkins family?

I've been researching my family tree for eight years now. When I was little, my grandmother had an old family tree written by my great- grandmother, America Francis Goddard Foster. It had her complete family tree. When my grandmother developed Alzheimer's in the early 1990's, it was destroyed. I remember distinctly the name of Loving being listed on it, however. America was the daughter of William Goddard and Matilda Lemmons. William was born in 1833. William's parents were John Godard and Lovinia (also spelled Louvenia and Lavinia on census records) Simpkins. Lovinia A. Simpkins was from Virginia. She and John Goddard moved to Fayette County, WV (then Virginia) before 1850. She was born in 1814. I believe her mother's maiden name was Loving. Does anyone know of any Simpkins-Loving marriages in the early 1800's?
Thanks,
Kaci Helene Foster Veazey

TO ALL LOVINS

Just a reminder that the Loving name was commonly spelled
Lovin also. In several of our family Bibles the last name is
spelled both ways often. Our Lovin family started around
1638 with Sir Thomas Loving going to Jamestown colony
with the second group after the first died. The family spread
from Virginia to the Carolinas and Georgia and mixed with
the various Cherokee tribes. My grandfather and grandmother
definitely look American Indian. I look like a husky Irishman.

The family then moved westward through Alabama, Missippi,
Oklahoma and Texas. Around 1900 the went every direction.
Surnames they mixed with were CONLEY, COOK, COFFIELD, COPELAND, and others. If you check the
Lovin message board for postings from Jerry Cherry you will
find a complete track of us back to 1638. This may be of
help to you. If I can help, let me know. I am very interested
in documenting the American Indian heritage. I know some of
us were in the forced march to Oklahoma, and some of us
stayed in what is now the Eastern band of the Cherokees, but
I am having a hard time proving it. Any help would be appreciated.

According to what I've been able to trace so far, Margarette Angeline Loving was born in 1825 in North Carolina, was married to Theodoric "Teddy" Edward Scruggs. She died in Feb of 1894 in Blount County, Alabama and was buried at Wynnville Cemetery. Does anyone know what Loving line she comes from? She would be my gggg-grandmother on my grandmother's side.

The automobile was that of Dr. Samuel
P.
TIPTON and the others were passengers in the car
when
it leaped from the road at a sharp curve and
dived 40
feet downward into a ravine.
Dr. TIPTON was killed instantly and Mrs. Katie M.
LOVING was dead, it is believed, before the car
was at
rest. William C. LOVING, son of Mrs. LOVING,
died a
few minutes after reaching the Parkland hospital.
The injured are Mrs. Hattie CUNNINGHAM, both arms
broken above the elbow; Mrs. R. The
automobile was demolished. All the persons were
pinioned under the car. The cries of the wounded
reached the roadway above and two automobiles
were
stopped, their passengers went to the scene of
the
disaster and the wounded were rushed to the
hospital.
The dead were brought to the city in undertakers'
wagons.
