I posted the information below a while back. Maybe it will be helpful to someone.

I am not researching the Lovings of this particular line, so I have no other information.

Slaves owned by Seaton H. Loving at time of Lee's surrender as noted in register at Nelson Co., Virginia Courthouse. This register only has a few other names listed.

Granville born Nov. 6, 1830
Wilson b. Oct. 10, 1841
Jine b. Aug. 9, 1839
Lucas b. April 1860
Nancy, a house servant b. 1847
Henry, a house servant, b. 1849

I hope this helps someone - and again, I have no further information on these people.

So this branch of the African American Loving of Nelson County, VA are of the Loving/Braddock connections.
Massie Tunstall Loving born 1908 married Alease Washington born 1910. They had 2 chillins'.

Jesse James Loving born was their son. Harold Loving was Jesse's brother.

Massie T's father was Willie Loving born 1887. Willie married Cora Lee Braddock born 1888.

Now William Loving's mother was Martha (Stokes) Loving born 1871. I didn't find Willie's father, yet. Cora Lee's mother was Sallie Braddock born 1865.

There were two Thomas H. Martins. Thomas H. Martin (father) was b. around 1832, was son of Joseph-Josiah Martin (b. around 1797). Thomas Martin (1832) married Lucy Ann and had two children, Alice and Thomas H. Martin. They were born in the early 1860s. I beliive Thomas H. Martin Sr. died of pneumonia or in the Civil War based on the things I;ve read. That's when his wife Lucy Ann married hteir neighbor and fellow farmer (25 years her senior), Elijah Schools. Let me know if you ahve any questions or comments about this update. Thanks!

Hi Jeanette,

Do you have any definite information about Thomas Martin's death(b. abt 1832). I know he married Lucy Ann Minor and had two children, but she then remarried Elijah Schools (also a widow) and they raised their kids together... including Thomas Henton Martin, Jr.

I found a mortality schedule that showed one Thomas Martin having died at age 28 from pneumonia in Montgomery County with an approximate DOB as 1832.

Thanks-Susan

I've conducted a great deal of research on Thomas Henton Martin and found the following information:

Thomas H. Martin was born on Oct. 6, 1862 (He had a sister Alice who was a year or so older). They were born to Thomas Martin and Lucy Ann Martin. It appears from my notes, research and through census documents that Thomas (listed as a farmer) and Lucy (listed as a seamstress) were married to each other in the 1860 census. No children were listed at that time, but it's important to note that one line item down from them was their neighbor, Elijah Schools (also listed as a farmer/neighbor), who was listed as head of household without a wife, but had a long list of children in his household. He appeared to be a widow.

Then, you can find Thomas Martin (Lucy's husband) listed in the mortality schedule from 1850-1885 as having died from pneumonia at the age of 28 in Montgomery County, Va. It said he had been ill for 7 months. (He was born in either 1832 or 1836...commonly DOB are incorrectly written in various areas).

In later census reports, you can find Elijah Schools married to Lucy Ann Schools with both Elijah's children and Lucy's children listed as household members (Thomas H. Martin and his older sister, Alice Martin).

Also, the parents of Thomas Martin (Lucy's first husband) were both listed as born in Virginia, and are as follows:

Josiah Martin: DOB around 1797
Polly (Possibly Mary “Polly” Owens): DOB around 1805

If you're tracing the lineage of the Baldwin and/or Martin family tree (from King & Queen County, VA), and have any photos or documents to share...I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks-Susan
I have a census with an Elijah Schools and Lucy A. Schools, with the two Martin children (Alice and Thomas) from 1870, so I do believe they were married. I have Alice's birthday in abt. 1861 and Thomas' in 1862. When I noticed he died sometime between 1862-1870, the Civil War was the first thing that came to mind, but I have been unable to find anything on his death, including a date. I greatly appreciate your help.

I will have to check the civil war records for Thomas to see if he was killed during the war. Do you have a date for the birth of their children? I was just estimating their marr date. Maybe they were marr bef 1860. Let me know what you think. Do you know when Lucy marr Elijah Schools? I don't have Elijah in my files.
Ollie
I have the same information you do. I was wondering though what happened to Thomas Martin (married to Lucy A. Minor) between 1860-1870. I have the 1860 census with Thomas Martin and Lucy. And then I have the 1870 census where it appears Lucy is now married to Elijah Schools with Thomas H. Martin and sister Alice Martin living with them. Do you have any info on that? Civil war perhaps?
