The originals of the following transcribed letters were found in the 1925 estate settlement file of Pauline Lowe, dec’d., by J. J. Brady, executor, held by the Grainger County Archives in Rutledge, Tennessee. The settlement file includes the will of Pauline Lowe, in which she bequeaths a sum of money to her sister, Mary Rebecca Tate:

Dear Sirs, Mrs. Mary R. Tate has moved her residence from Ontario Calif. to Lockney Tex.
She is scarcely able to write at all, so I her daughter in law, has been ask by her to do her writing.

Mr. J. J. Brady,
Dear Sir, The check for Mrs. Mary R. Tate arrived yesterday. We want to thank you for your kindness. She is very feeble & nervous & cant write atal. She will be ninty years old new-years, & is the last of her family. If you are personally acquainted with any of her people there you might tell them. She is still living & would like to hear from them. She appreciated your good wishes for her.
