Hi,
My g grandmother Emily Erender Lowe was the daughter of MP Lowe. She married Fredrick Burge. One of their children was my grandfather Hilray Lowe whom I never met because he was killed in a car accident before I was born.I met Emily when I was a little girl . She was elderly and a very sweet lady. It seems we are researching the same family. I believe MP Lowe's father was "Jim" John Lowe. MP's mother was Allie or Aly Jones. She is one of the last ancestors that I researched and has one of the most interesting ancestries. There seems to be a connection to pirates and an extinct Native American tribe, the Chowanoke.
Email me at ATodisco@aol.com and we can communicate about it.
There is an interesting image of MP Lowe online. My father tells stories about him. Apparently, he lost an eye in a whip snapping contest. I plan to create a genealogy website and post relevant information and images on it, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Regards,
AletaB.

I have a Barbara Widmann, b in 1726 that is the mother to Johannes Seiz. In tracing Widmann further back, I come across several other trees that have a name change the further back they go. To Weidmann, Wydmann. Names and dates line up with what I have on my tree, but the spelling is different. Can anyone help with the spelling change or am I looking at the wrong trees.
Thanks, Cindy

I have a brother, Hiram McKinney Lowe, called "Kin". We live in Texas. None of the people you mentioned has come up in my search. Our people seem to have come to TX by way of Tennessee and Alabama. I cannot find a Lowe family before 1815 that we seem to belong to. Our McKinney family were in Kentucky and they go back to New Jersey and Scotland.

Hello ... I have not chimed in before, but this thread is very interesting. A sister of my grandmother married GRANT LOWE (b. 1888 in Powell County, KY and died 1962 in Middletown, Ohio). Grant was a machinest. He met and married Minnie Mae Harmon (1885-1981) from Sardis, Mississippi. They later lived in Middletown, Ohio. Grant's parents were Marcus Lowe (1850-1898) and Belle Jackson Lowe (1854-1913) of Stanton, Powell County, Kentucky. Can anyone help me out regarding how Grant and Marcus Lowe fit into this discussion of Lowes from Powell County, Kentucky? Thanks so much!

Lowe- Ohio Mystery

I am seeking information on my great-grandfather Edward "Ed" Harold Lowe. He's always been a bit of a family mystery. No one including his wife, Helen Tarbutton (who lived to be 96) knew much about his past. He was born in 1893 in Vinton County, Ohio-- possibly Wilkesville. According to my family his birth date was always "what ever he felt it should be that day". His draft card states March 5th. He was very reluctant to discuss his past; it was rumored that he was raised by his grandfather (name unknown) and that his mother's name was Agnes (last name possibly Phillips). I am looking for any leads. Based on census records he left home at a young age and lived as a Boarder/Farmhand in Clark County (near Springfield). Any help is appreciated.

I don't know if this email is for me or not. However, all Lowes are invited to join the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project (Lowe is a Clan surname). This should be in addition to the Lowe Surname DNA Project. Once you join a DNA project at Family Tree DNA, you can join others at no extra cost. To join the MacLaren project, go to
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=T20437
Please note that I recommend the 67-marker Y-DNA test at Family Tree DNA. I will be glad to answer any questions. Contact me at bobmclaren@earthlink.net

Yours aye,

Bob McLaren

Middle name Minton

Joseph Minton Speer, Birth 17 Mar 1834 in Lafayette, Fayette, Georgia, Death 21 Dec 1923 in Weogufka, Coosa, Alabama, United States and his son Joseph Minton Speer and grandson Clarence Minton Lowe all had the same middle name. I thought I would find some ancestor with the last name "Minton" but have not to date.
Any information about where the middle name came from? Maybe just a common name in the 1800s?
As an aside, Clarence Minton Lowe "changed" his middle name to Milton for some reason. Nothing legal, just just started using Milton as his middle name instead of Minton. He also named his son Clarence Milton Lowe, Jr. Unfortunate that he didn't keep the Minton tradition going.
Rod
Thanks,
Rod

Roy,

I see that you are starting on your genealogy. Let me suggest that you do a DNA test. This will tell you who is related (among those who have tested). This can allow you to extend your genealogy back in time. Since Lowe is a Clan MacLaren surname, I invite you to join the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project. The company we use is Family Tree DNA (which has the largest database of DNA results). The test I recommend is the 67-marker Y-DNA test. To order, go to:
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=T20437
If you want more information or have questions, please contact me directly at bobmclaren@earthlink.net.

Yours aye,

Bob McLaren
Genealogist, Clan MacLaren Society (based in Scotland)
Chairman, Genealogy Committee, Clan Maclaren Society of North America
Administrator, Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project (Worldwide)

William (Bill) Lowe (Gilford Bloyd)

William Lowe is my grandfather (my Dad is Robert Gilford Lowe born 3/18/1920 in Chicago)and Marie (Pigeon) Lowe was my grandmother. They divorced when my Dad was an infant. I think William (Bill) Lowe and Gilford Bloyd are the same person. My Dad didn't know his father but my Dad's middle name is Gilford (unusual) and he thought his father's middle name was Boyd (Bloyd). The mystery is why, how, and when he changed his name from Gilford Bloyd (Bloyed) to William Lowe. In the 1910 census Gilford Bloyd was living in Oklahoma with his family but entered the military in 1917 as Bill Lowe so I suspect he changed his name between 1910 and 1917. Also how did he meet my grandmother Marie if she was from Chicago and he was from Texas/Oklahoma? If anybody has any clues to help me solve the mystery, I would greatly appreciate the assistance.

Richard Lowe
