Hi,
I'm not sure how much help I will be, but I am descended from Mary Lower Rea (born 1822). Her father was Samuel Benson Lower and Susannah Butterbaugh (Samuel's first wife). With his first wife he had Mary Ann,Susan, Sarah, Elizabeth, John, and George. Susannah died in 1838.

We are in possession of 2 funeral books (they were in my father's papers--don't know where they came from and this person is not part of our family) for Faulkner H. Lower, born Blandville, Kentucky on December 4, 1864. He died March 18, 1935 in Anadarko, Oklahoma. One book is probably from the funeral home and the other for the funeral itself.

There are also several pictures that were stuck inside these funeral books, most unidentified from the late 1800s-1930s. Some are labeled as Lowers (C.F., E.R., Billie Ed, Claude Lervy. Also pictures of Aunt Ellen Aulenbacker, Cousin Lizzie Lipscomb, Marguerie Lipscomb, Jacob Lipscomb, Gurdon Ark, Mrs. Wilson of Enid OK, Josephone Edwards, and Mrs. Myrtle Kinder.

I hate to throw these away, so hope to hear soon that somebody wants them.

Perhaps you can help me. I am just now researching the Lower genealogy in my family and I cannot find anything past Samuel Benson Lower (1789-1851). All I know is that he was born in PA, and married Mary McGill (1810-1882). I am related to their daughter Malinda. I have found the family in the 1850 Federal Census living in Mahoning, Lawrence, Pennsylvania. If you have any further info on Samuel's lineage, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,
Oona

Hi Ms. Shute,

I am researching the family origins of my wife Peggy's ancestors through the Hackett line and your work is exactly where I am stuck at present. Peggy's 2nd great grandmother was Flora Belle Haskett (1863-1920), the infant child of Hannah Jane Lower who was raised by the Sutton family in Cherokee County, IA. So I can fill you in on her history if you wish and/or need.

I am trying to understand, however, the circumstances and remainder of life for her mother, Hannah Jane Lower, whom you indicate is your great grandmother. What exactly was the cause of her being divorced by Daniel Y. Haskett (was it the baby Flora Belle?) and why would he send her away with a newborn baby in 1863 (Flora Belle was born in Oct. 1863), was she then not Daniel's child?

And what became of Hannah Jane Lower (my wife Peggy's 3rd great grandmother as well as your great grandmother? Do you have records documenting her whereabouts after 1863 and her place of death? I see you indicate that she married an Isaac Stalcup and wound up in Kansas, but I can only find an Emmer Stalcup in Kansas but he married a Hannah McMannaway/McMananee sister of John (with whom she was living as a widow in the 1880 Federal Census).

I have found what became of Flora Belle's siblings except for the eldest Juliet L. Haskett (b. 1856); do you have any information on her life?

So any history you could provide me would be most gratefully received. I realize that this chapter appears to have been a rather sad one in our family history and so know that we will treat it respectfully. We only need some education on what the cause of the divorce was and the subsequent whereabouts of Hanna Jane Lower Haskett.

Thanks so much!

Dr. Joseph P. Huffman
Peggy Ann Huffman (3rd great granddaughter of Hannah Jane Lower)

If anyone with the Lower/Lauer sirname has done DNA testing, we would like to compare our results. The company we went through(FTDNA) did not yield any other Lowers but a name that did come up often comes from the same part of 1500's Germany. I take this as a positive because it makes me think that Lowers who match would be connected no farther back than that. I can be reached at DLFL63@yahoo.com
I believe my great grandfather is found in the Lower book at the end of page 12 under "third generation." He is a product of Samuel Lower's second marriage and the book only knows him as M.L. I found census records with my great grandfather and his father Samuel to support this. Other records match ages. I would like to compare records if anyone else has Martin Luther Lower or Samuel Lower.

There are wonder Revolutionary War Pension records at the National archives. The families all had lots of children. I can send you some information if I know which part of the family you are interested in.
Linda Lower

Lower Family in Adams County, PA

I recently started my Lower family line and have run into some snags. According to familysearch.org, the father of John Matthew 'Matthias' Lower was Johan Theiss Lower b. in 1700. However, other records from other sites indicate that John Matthews father was a Henry Lower/Lauer. I have checked every source and search engine I could find, and cannot come up with the true father. If Johann Theiss is the right one, then I have the line back 9 generations, if its Henry, I can't find anything past him. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it!

I am not a direct descendant of the Lower Family, however the Matriarch Anna Kocian - Lower is related. Obadiah Patrick Lower born Marc 17, 1885 in Missouri. Married Josephine Foley, born 02 May 1885 in Europe, died 07 December 1958 in St Louis, Missouri. According to her Death Certificate her father's name is Anthony Foley. My Public Family Tree is "Our Heritage" and I have a lot of information regarding the Lower's. You can also go to Robin Carnahan Missouri Secretary of State Home Page and under Archives you will find all Death Certificates from 1905 thru 1958. Good Luck!
Jacquie

Louisa Commons married John Weeks. My mums dad, Alfie denied that his grandmother was part German, when my nan used to say about it. Probably because of anti German sentiments, and both Weeks' fought in the two wars!
Have you found any thing out? Were the Golding's from Ireland?
Hi Faye,
I was thrilled to get your message re my Grandmother's brother Thomas Charles Lower. I had some contact with the lower family in Ballarat in the 1960's but lost contact and have been unable to reconnect ever since. I imagine that my contact back then has moved to another area. I believe it was Tom's daughter that I communicated with. Do you know the name of his daughter that has moved to Queensland??
I found a cousin in Vermont,USA a few years ago via the internet. She is a Granddaughter of my Grandmother(Ethel Lower). Ethel had an illegitimet son before she married my grandfather, and the cousin in Vermont is a daughter of that son!! Small world isn't it??
Hope to hear from you soon.
Sandra Swan
