Interesting. The entry from your list for the date 16 Jun 1873 would be the one I believe to be for my great grandmother, Minnie. I wonder who the child was 27 Nov 1872 where John Luitze is. Are you searching in the Burke County North Carolina area? We, the family, have been told we have Native American blood from her side of the family. I am looking for information on her as well and believe her to be the mother of my 2nd great grandmother Ada Susan Winkler who was adopted by George Winkler and Mary Ada Shook. So far all I have is hearsay, but the only info I have is that she had an estimated 10 children and she gave them all up for adoption. I do not have proof of the ten children, only 4 of them. The bastardy bonds are as follows:

It certainly sounds like you may tie in somewhere. I'd love to help you figure out how. No, I don't have either of those names in my extensive Brown tree. The closest I have is a James Miller Brown (1830-1907) but he and his wife had no children. Do you have dates on either of your Brown relatives? That might help me tie them in.

Hi - I'm trying to determine if I'm related to Wilson Wright Brown (married to Clarissa). My mother is a Brown who grew up in Western PA with relatives in OH. My uncle used to tell a vague story about how "some ancestor of ours once stole a train during the Civil War" but never had any more details than that. My research is leading me to believe that it might have have been Wilson Wright Brown and the event was Andrews' Raid.

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of information about my grandfather (or his family) - his name was Clarence Edward Brown and his father was Miller Brown. Do either of those names show up in your records?

Hello Gareth,
John Henry Lowman was my husband's gt Grandfather. His daughter Bessie married George Miles. I too had problems finding much out about the Lowmans. I believe John Henry lived with his Grandfather as a child in Eversley which might be because his Mother either wasn't married or remarried.
I believe he was a Policeman in Reading in the 1881 census but soon returned to being a farm labourer. I keep promising myself to look into the police connection as there is a police museum near where I live (not far from Eversley.
I should return to researching the Lowmans and would be very interested to hear more information.
95 is some age, I wonder why we didn't know he lived so long - He was still alive when my mother and father in law were married, I'll have to ask M-in-law if he was at the wedding?

I'm also looking for source info that either links the other Lowmans in Leitersburg with "Old" Daniel or proves no link to him (save for his children, as I know their link to him--Andrew, Barbara, Daniel S., John C., Elizabeth)

I am attempting to find the connection where the Lomman family who emigrated to South Australia in the 1840's go back to the UK. They seem to have come from Somerset, and could have come from either Lowman or Loman. I would be interested if you have anything in that region.

The trees are down today so I was researching my great-grandmother & somehow came across this thread. One of the surnames you list is Barus. My maiden name is Barus. My great-grandmother, Nancy Harris, married Casimir Barus (my Dad's grandfather). I'm have a tough time going any further back with her family & wondered what part of the Barus family you were interested in.

I found an online copy of a publication titled "History of Indiana County". It was still posted on Ancestry.com several months ago. Just search for by the title. It contains a great deal of information regarding the Lowman family in the early days of Indiana county, then referred to as "Indian country". There is enough in that publication to keep you busy updating your records for quite a while. Including Abram's parents and grandparents. I've attached an excerpt from that document. Since Posting this in 2006, I have made a correction to the ancestors, from Germany, of the Lowman's. Mildred Lide Fair was not correct in her book. The Palmetto Genealogy website, at the bottom has the family tree posted under SC Families. This was verified as you can see. palmettoroots.org is the web address.

I am a relative of Sallie Davis Butler. Her son, Alan Davis Butler was my grandfather. In answering your question, I wonder if Mrs. H.C. McMillan is Mrs. Horace (Lois Butler) McMillan of Marietta, GA. What doesn't exactly make sense is Lois would have been a child in 1915 and obviously not married at the time of her grandmother's death. Perhaps she paid for the funeral for her own mother and the records are mixed up somehow.

J. H. LOWMAN The leading undertaking establishment in Alameda is that owned and conducted by J. H. Lowman, who is recognized as one of the most capable and efficient funeral directors in this part of the state, having been in business here continuously for twenty years. He was born in Mansfield, Ohio, December 29, 1882, and secured his education in the public schools of that city. At the age of twelve years be started to learn the undertaking business and was one of the first undertakers in the . United States to practice embalming. For five years he had an undertaking busin!ss of his own in Cleveland, Ohio, where he remained until 1907, when he came to Alameda, California, and formed a partnership with James Fowler, under the firm name of Fowler & Lowman. I am a decendant of Levi and Sara Martin Lowman. Levi would be my great, great, great grandfather. His son Layfette is the father of Lewis. Navada (Navada married a Lowman) is the daughter of Lewis. Navadas had a son Edward. Edward's son is Johnny and I am the daughter of Johnny.

Do a search on Ancestry.com for "History of Indiana County". They've uploaded a historical reference that was published in 1880. It is a treasure trove of Lowman history back to late 1700's containing parents, children, marriages, locations, etc.

I have a Layfette Lowman in my tree. His father was Levi Lowman(1829-1863). Layfette is my great-grandmothers father. Her name is Navada Alta Lowman.(1901-2000) She married a John Lowman(1896-1938) and from what I gather they lived in Georgia for a period. John and Navada are buried in Valdese NC at Abees Chapel. My two sets of Lowmans are starting to run together. Johns mother was Nancy Lowman(1852-1951) and his father is unknown. I have not gotton back any further than Nancy on Johns side. I will be adding my tree on ancestry.com. It is called Gretchen Lowmans tree if you would like to compare notes.

I encourage you to try and find the book "The Lowman Story" by Margaret Lowman Smith, Mildred Lowman Speagle and Ruby Lowman Young, published in 1992 by Gateway Press (Library of Congress Card Ctalogue Number 92-70164). I believe that this very good genealogy of our Lowman family will benefit your search greatly.

I am a member of the 8th generation of Lowman's starting with Johann Martin Lauman, then his son Lewis (also called Johann Ludwig Laumann), then his out-of-wedlock son William, then his son George, then his son Monroe, then his son Horace, then his son Wayne (my father).

That's pretty much where I still am, although I've amassed a lot of supporting evidence concerning their life backgrounds, Rebecca. I live near where William Wood called home and had a mill on the Darby Creek and about 20-30 minutes from where the Lowmans called home in DE. As for Samuel, I'm beginning to think he fell from the sky. Still searching for how & exactly when he arrived. Supporting evidence of his presence in New Castle Co., DE commences in 1700. Other than that...I haven't yet to find anything new.

Hi! Yes, I am on Ancestry.com My brick wall is Amos Hughel, son of Alvers and Martha Ralston Hughel! He supposedly marries Phoebe S. Penwell 24 Oct. 1854 in Shelby Co., Ohio......I can't find them anywhere on the census. I know that he is still alive in 1883 because he inherits from Martha's will?! Any ideas?? Hi. Not too late at all. The name of the book is Descendants of Ephraim Hughel. I found it in the LDS Family History library in Mesa, Arizona. It was a non-professional publication put together by a cousin. I don't mean that disrespectfully. It was typed and simply bound. Are you near an LDS library? Don't know if it can be ordered sent to your local place. I was over there last night for the first time in a few years, so I can go look again for Lowman info.
