"free person of color" was not an incorrect reference used by the government, "person of color" doesnt just refer to blacks it applies to anyone who is not white, so Indians, asians, or any other race that was not pure caucasion would be correctly described as a "person of color" as well as blacks.

Hi Ernie. Haven't I met you at one of Grandad's birthday celebrations? I am married to Richard, Leah's son. Anyway, I've done more research, and even found the census records for 1880 Census, Antrim, Watonwan County, Minnesota, filled out by Alonzo W. Lowry with info on his family, but can't go back in the Lowry line any further than Joel Lowry (born approximately 1765) and wife Mary Elizabeth. I've had more success with the Walbridge line, getting to Henry Walbridge (1665-1729) and found lots of fascinating reading of his family and their involvement in the life of early Norwich,Connecticut. Can you add to any of this? You can email me at bearfootimages@gmail.com
Thanks! Marti

She married her cousin Andrew Jackson Lowrey (1837-1909, son of Anthony Lowrey and Mary Ann Childrous). Family lore says that she was native american but I haven't seen any documentation of that fact. Permelia is my 2x great-grandmother, and her daughter Mary Luella is my great grandmother.

Thanks in advance.
Rhonda
Hello. I am researching the Alonzo Walbridge Lowry family. Alonzo was my husband's great great grandfather. Alonzo's son, Andrew Adolphus Lowry (1869-1951) was my husband's great grandfather, and Andrew's son, Alvin L. Lowry, was my husband's grandfather. Alvin (born 5/18/1904) died at the age of 103 in Colbert, Washington on 9/30/2007. I am so hoping that this email thread is still current, as I would love to find out more about this part of the family. I can tell you that we have audio tapes of Grandad (Alvin Lowry) telling stories of his father's (Andrew A. Lowry) life as a true-life Western cowboy. Thank you for any information you can give me.
I believe you may be in touch with my brother Gene Lee at some point as he just sent me an article on MJ Lowry (correct spelling Lowery) who murdered a Mr. Piccilo in a drunken rage. Wondering of the outcome of the trial and if he was charged (hanged, life in prison, etc.) My mother was Margaret Shirley Lee and her mother was Imogene Lowrey/Lee. Mom died in 2006 of Lou Gehrig's disease and I buried her with Imogene in 2009 at Twin Rivers Cemetary in Missouri

I am also interested in the Lowry name. My GGGgrandmother was Sarah Jane Lowry/Lawrie and her husband served in the Civil War with a outfit from Brady's Bend. I have also found my GGGgrandfathers name and Hugh Lowry serving in a Jefferson County outfit. I am really grasping at straws. Do you have any information you can share?

Wendy
Re: Looking for Lowry Researchers!

Enoch Lowrt is my ancestor. Following is his bio:

From LAND OF OUR FATHERS. History of Clark Co Kentucky Volume I by A. Goff Bedford and Vol II THE PROUD LAND ,History of Clark Co Kentucky by A. Goff Bedford

page 134-----Vol II

In 1800 Enoch LOWRY was granted a license to keep a tavern. He lived in the Vienna area. Walter Goode appeared on the scene in 1842. In 1840 the Karrick tavern was located on the Winchester-Irvine Road at the ferry. There was a good deal of traffic to Estill springs which was a popular resort. This was a popular stopping place and also the poll for that part of the county for elections.

Note: also info from VOL I. Vienna was virtually wiped out by a flood in 1880. Another previous terrible flood (Red and Kentucky Rivers plus Lulligrud Creek area) also tragically hit and destroyed much of the area in 1817. (as reported by the Log Lick Correspondent to the DEMOCRAT February 25 1880.

In 1800, he was listed in the tax rolls for Clark County, Kentucky.

For the 1810 census he was with his wife and eight children in Madison Township, Madison County, Kentucky. This census also shows Enoch owning 7 slaves.

January 12, 1815
Enoch gave permission for his daughter Elizabeth to marry William Kelly in Madison Co., Kentucky.

1820 Clark Co. Census.

Hello Diane - My name is Vera Lowry, and I am also looking for the parents of John Lowery. (I have been looking for you as well, and am so happy to find you). My niece, Angela Ludwig, in the Joplin, Mo. area had been in contact with you, Don Shields and Blaine Tingley about April 2006, but lost all that info when her computer died. She had no idea how to get in touch with you at that time. She sent me copies of the headstones of John and Martha Lowery, as well as other family history, and I am now trying to continue the search. My email is vlowry@q.com for future contact. Thanks!
My father is Harold Lowry, his father Franklin Thomas Lowry, his father Thomas Mercer Lowry,

Hello, hopefully you'll still get this. My wife's grandmother is an Edith Lowrey. Edith's father is a John Lowrey born in Pittsburgh (I think) around 1900. I'm pretty sure I have him linked to his father, which is a John Lowrey born in Brady's Bend, Armstrong, PA around 1858. Unfortunately, that is all the information that I have on them, other than eventually the family moved to Akron, Ohio where the elder John Lowrey died. Would love to hear back.

You're very welcome. Also, as further proof of the connection, Adam and Parthena are on the same 1880 census page as Adam's older brother Levi and Levi's daughter, Tennessee.

My brother-in-law, Atherton Clark Lowry, is a descendant of George Marion Dallas Lowry. My nephew, Atherton Clark Matthew Lowry has been researching for a while. He's in touch with Nellie (LowryLines creator)and cousins around the U.S.

The big question outstanding is John "Crip" Lowry's birth and immigration info.

Jane

Searching desperately for parents of Adam Lowry (b.1805, Tenn) married Parthena Painter in 1830 (from NC). Father listed as from Virginia on census. Lived in Dekalb AL after married. 8 children: Adaline, William A, Samuel, George, Elizabeth, Nancy, Francis.
Decendant of James M. b.1843 - Wallace M b.1879
See some trees listing John "Crip" Lowry - does anyone have proof of this connection?
