mary higgs loyd

mary higgs was married to jasper loyd and they had two sons jasper and jarred.
jasper died in 1870 and listed on his death records it says his mothers name was mary highs. jarred dies in 1928 and his death records states his mothers name was mary stringer. i have noticed that everyone who is searching this loyd tree has listed mary loyd death in 1870 and on her death record states her name was mary loyd when she died. so my question is between 1870 and 1928 she became a stringer so she could not have died with the last name of loyd it would be stringer. When did she become a stringer it had to be after jasper death and before jerrett death.

W. R. and Myrtle LOYD - 1910 Kansas City

I was doing some research in the August 1910 Kansas City Post and ran across a wonderful article that starts out:

"Much-Tattooed Husband is Lost; Wife is Lonely.
Mrs. Myrtle Loyd Hasn't Any Pictures to Look at Now.

Lost. Strayed or Stolen - The most beautifully tattooed husband in the world. When last seen was going north over the Hannibal bridge to claim a family inheritance in northern Iowa. Will be recognized by the 562 tattooed subjects painted on his body in seven different colors. Anyone finding this art husband will please notify Mrs. W. R. Loyd, 1221 Tracy avenue."

The article goes on to explain that Mrs. Myrtle Loyd had asked the police to find her "wandering art treasure" - her husband. He had announced that he was going to go to Iowa to collect his share of an estate and had set out without railroad fare. When he had been gone three weeks without word, Mrs. Loyd went to the police, took her two children to the Institutional church and went out to look for a job.

The article says that the home had been a "fairly happy" one, and that Mr. Loyd had been a sailor for many years. He had left life on the sea and had recently been a circus magician, then had worked for a Kansas City prohibition newspaper.

I'm not related to the Loyds but thought this was too great a story to leave hidden on newspaper microfilm. If someone out there is related to the Myrtle and W. R. Loyd who lived in Kansas City in 1910, I'd be happy to e-mail you a scan of the story. It appeared in the Kansas City Post on August 25, 1910, on page 5.

Walter, Ella, Sallie, Delia Loyd- seeking information on them

One of my grandmother's sisters was named Sallie (Loyd) Boozer. I am seeking more information on this part of my family.

Sallie's siblings were Ella Loyd born October 1891, Walter Loyd, and Delia Loyd.

Sallie's parents were Henry Loyd and Rosenna/Rose. I do not have a last name for Rosenna. It may have been Johnson or Young.

All of the above persons lived orignally in the Lexington/Columbia, SC area. Amost all relocated to Philadelphia by the 1920's.

Any information people may have on Sallie's family, I would greatly appreciated having. I have a picture of the three siblings together--Sallie, Walter and Ella.

Ella was my grandmother. She was married to Benjamin (Frank)Hill.

Their son Nicholas was my 5th GGrandfather, which he and several of his kin moved to Tennessee around the 1820's and 1830's. I hope this helps.

I am looking for information about John C. Loyd. I believe he was born about 1828 in Tennessee. After which he lived in Morgan County, Alabama. He married Harriet Ann Pate in Iowa about 1855 and appears to have stayed in Appanoose County Iowa until 1880 when he was in Marshall County Kansas. He has a son named David Edward Lloyd who Married Adell (Addie) Pidcoe. I believe that the name of John's mother was Martha and he had a sister named Nancy, although possibly his mother was Nancy and his grandmother was Martha.

I appreciate any information that anyone can provide.

I am tracing the Dancy/Dancey Family. In particular, I'm looking for John Dancy who married Abigal Loyd (1792- 1843) and Frances R. (1802-1872). Both wives are buried and I have the church record from Prospect Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Rowan County, NC. There is no maiden name given for Francis. There is no John Dancy listed in the records. I'm trying to figure out who is this John Dancy and his parentage.

John and Abigal had the following child: Enos (b. 1819, d. 1892.

Is this John Dancy the son of Edward Dancy and Susannah Vannoy?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Susan Barrow Spaulding
The Lucy Loyd you mentioned was widowed while expecting her 3rd. & last child(John A. Loyd. Her children were William Jefferson, Martha Jane Loyd Walters & John Alexander( which for many years was thought to be John L.) Martha & John married in Bedford Co,TN. then moved to Texas. Took me many years to locate them. I decend from William J. & Rhoda Shelton Loyd( Both are buried in Shelbyville.Bedford Co,TN) They were my G-G Grandparents. For a time there was also another William Loyd in Bedford Co,TN. He moved I think to Green Co. not sure. I also printed off a photo of a Lidia Bell Loyd Garner with Husband & In-laws from Foulkner Co. Arkansa not related but thought I'd mention. Hope this in some small way can help. Jackie A. Loyd Boyd

It looks like there was on Loyd left after 1850 the name was Lucy Loyd, the mother of your John I am guessing. They showed up together on the 1860 census for Bedford County. Could have been married to Leo/Lee Loyd. Can not find any other records after 1840's. So far as I can tell the Loyds that I have mentioned in previous posts were the only ones to move to bedford.

The brother John that I mentioned moved to St Clair, MO and was on the 1850 Federal Census for that county with a son John born about the same time as yours. There were other siblings; Matilda and James. There was also another Loyd on the 1830 census named Leo, possible son of Nicholas also. As far as I can tell all the ones I have mentioned moved to MIssouri by the 1850's Censuses except for Joseph, he died in Bedford County around 1844. In which all his children also moved to MIssouri excpet for one daughter that went to Arkansas. Are you sure yours stayed in TN?

Thanks for your reply.

This gives me a trail to follow. According to the 1880 census, John B.'s father was born in Tennessee and his mother was born in North Carolina. Tennessee used to be part of North Carolina and became a state in 1796 and so maybe there is a mistake on his dad's place of birth. I'm not aware of any of the Loyd's living in Missouri. All the family since John B. have lived in Tennessee.

Do you know if John B. had any siblings?

Thanks again for your help!

My loyds were in Bedford, TN before they moved to Missouri. The Loyds in Bedford at that time came from North Carolina around 1810-1820. My GGGGGrandfather was Howell Loyd and I believe his father may be Nicholas Loyd??. There were two others I believe to be Howells' brothers, Joseph b. abt 1795, and John b. abt 1806. All were born in North Carolina, Granville caounty. John Loyd did have a son, John that was born in TN abt 1836. This Johns mother was named Alice.
